  1. I started building my neck-thru in May '18 so I think I should have this build title!! 😁
  2. I thought I'd give the ski slope one more try What does everyone reckon?
  3. Update on the pink torpedo-up repair! Tried both ideas 1. Infill with oak (as expected it looked a badgers derriΓ¨re!) 2. Ski-slope (just couldn't get it to look right!) Then a 3rd idea hit me what if I rout the top cap and infill with sapele? Please excuse the pic! πŸ‘πŸ»
  4. Oooohh now that is stunning!! love a bit of spalted beech!! 🀀
  5. @kodiakblair your collection looks awesome! Just out of interest did you do anything with the body you got off me?
  6. It felt really weird for a few weeks but then it got a lot more comfortable but I didn't play the bass it was on for ages because I got my Warwicks which I played a lot more and it didn't fit them and now I've added a pickguard to that bass I need to make a new one πŸ‘πŸ»
  7. I just used DC-fix matt black self adhesive vinyl from B & Q πŸ‘πŸ»
  8. No you are correct I have taken inspiration for jabba's and the Ibby BTB style headstocks? Yeah I get what your saying regarding the size of the headstock and on a different bass it looks fine (I had it on my first 5 string build) but I just dont particularly like it on this build, I'm reconsidering the saddle positions and thinking of using a standard type bridge instead and perhaps go for gold hardware for a change? πŸ€”
  9. The darker line is the original (Ibby copy) and the pencil line is what I'm thinking of doing instead I'll just have to glue some extra on the headstock and reshape it πŸ‘πŸ»
  10. After I finish my $$ build I need to get back to doing this build I've been thinking about how to go forward with it..... I still dont like the headstock on it I think it looks too small for the body shape so I've been having a little play around and I've come up with this shape which isnt radically different but I think it's better?....
  11. My favourite headstock goes to our very own @Jabba_the_gut I just think its a great looking headstock
  12. They do now you mention it! πŸ˜‚
  13. Congrats on being in the No treble top 5 readers basses of the week well deserved!! πŸ‘πŸ»
  14. Yeah I think I'm going to do the overhang on the fretboard, I very rarely play up the dusty end so I think it will be fine πŸ‘πŸ»
  15. I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd make a start on the pickguard/fretboard extension here's what I've come up with?....... I think @Pea Turghis right a ski-slope down from the end of the fretboard would probably be the best option but I do like the idea of a pickguard it makes it look slightly different? What does everyone else think?....... πŸ‘πŸ»
  16. Ooooohhhh thats a good idea that could work!! Its a rosewood fretboard that had been painted matt black before I got it so it would be easy to blend it in πŸ‘πŸ»
  17. If I go down the pickguard route I'll make it out of wood and stain it a sapele/Mahogany colour so its in keeping as such? I really wanted to keep it a Double buck
  18. I'm thinking of doing a different style than on my refinish? I need some opinions please I'm thinking maybe a darkish wood Jazzman style? πŸ‘πŸ»
  19. I hung this build up next to my other corvettes and realised I've pink torpedoed it up!! 🀬🀬🀬 I've cut the neck pocket too long by about 30-40mm so the bridge would need to hang off the edge to get the scale length correct!! I measured the neck pocket off the original body which was longer than this one! If I try and piece in a bit of Oak its going to stand out a mile so I think this is going to need a pickguard to save the day!!
  20. Thanks, I dont understand why Oak isn't used more I think its a lovely looking wood πŸ‘πŸ»
  21. Unless you visit poultry farms or have poultry yourself then its nothing to worry about, only 1500 people have died from avian flu in the last 50yrs If you have got poultry then they just need to be kept indoors or like my chickens they are kept in enclosed roofed run......πŸ‘πŸ»
  22. The headstock has all been cut and drilled Heres a little mockup πŸ‘πŸ»
  23. The top has been grain filled and had a little coat of danish oil Can't really do much more till I get the MM pickups. πŸ‘πŸ»
  24. Turned my attention to the headstock now Its all cut and the extra wings and new Oak capping is all gluing up ready to reshape it πŸ‘πŸ»
  25. Rounded over the top and finished the belly carve and neck detail! I think its coming along nicely so far? Next job is the neck pocket! πŸ‘πŸ»
