I can’t narrow it down to just one so here’s goes Steve Harris and Duff Mckagan are the two players that made me pick up the Bass guitar in the first place their sounds are so distinctive and i think it’s mostly down to the string choice!! To try and emulate their sound I’ve even strung my P bass with SH77 and my Jazz has got Swing Bass 66 and they are my favourite choice of strings every others I’ve tried don’t come near to them for tone and quality!! I’m dying to try the Rotosound 88s on my new Telebass (nudge nudge wink wink!!) Even though I’m not really a fan of Jazz you can’t have a list like this without Jaco Pastorius being named his skills and sound is just legendary!!!!

You almost managed to hide them 6 string twiddly things but we can still see them!!!!!!..............😁 -
I think repairing a truss rod issue on a Warwick can be more problematic and a daunting task because if you haven’t got the confidence/skills to do the work yourself replacement necks aren’t readily available for a reasonable price? so you can’t just swap them out like if you had the same issue on a fender type neck?..........🤔

I’ve got an old 2002 (I think) Warwick RB corvette in trans blue and I really like it the neck is really fast and playable and it still has the Warwick trademark growl!! I’ve got a 2014 RB 5 string as well but I haven’t strung it up yet so I can’t comment on that one TBH the price you can pick them up for I don’t think you can go wrong!!

My deepest sympathies to you and your family

If I had the money I’d think about taking a punt on this? Looks to me like maybe a broken truss rod I can’t see that the neck is actually broken? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F113814545243

I want to do it V/T on each so I can in effect turn either pickup off as such without having a switch......😀
-
I’ve been thinking a lot about pickup config today and I’ve been watching a few vids on YT comparing tones etc and I’m now thinking that I might go for classic ‘51 style at the neck and MM at the bridge because im going to do stacked pots with individual V/T for each pickup so each pickup would sound great on their own and blending the two would sound great aswell? Incidentally I’m probably going to string this bass with tapewounds.............🤔
-
I’m still thinking 2 soap bars is the way im probably going to go or maybe a double MM config might be good?..............🤔
-
Here’s just a quick update with the Jazz neck.............😀
-
Fair enough!!!!😀

If 5ers are the work of Satan what does that make my 6er then?...............😮
-
I had an old 4” post kicking about the workshop so I ripped it down and was surprised how nice it looked!...........😃

Bit of an update on this build......... I’ve decided to use the neck off my Orange Jazz bass build as I don’t really play it all that much now as I favour my White P or my Quincy (till the missus lets me have the Warwick’s!!!) and being Maple fretboard with blocks I think it will tie in with this build very well?? Should have pics to follow very soon! I’ve been seriously GASing over a Jag bass recently so this seems like a perfect opportunity to convert the Jazz body into a Jag body instead and use the black neck on this future build.........😃

The sides I've got some 0.6mm maple veneer that could cover it The truss rod will be in the same place in reality it will only be 2-3mm deeper by the time I cap the headstock......... 😀
-
The headstock is definitely going to have an 2-3mm Oak veneer on the face and I might veneer the back with 2-3mm maple aswell so I don't have to use a lump of maple?............ 😀
-
Hi @JJMaingrain Welcome!! Just listened to your link, loving your sound!! Did you play bass on Residue of Hope aswell?......... 😀
-
One other idea I've been toying with is to plant some 2" timber on the back of the headstock then cut the angle for the new headstock the front is going to be cladded with 2mm Oak to match the top body cap so that will hide the joint I think that if it will work this would be the easiest option and the strength of the neck wouldn't be effected?.......... 🤔
-
Yeah that makes sense, I think that it's going to be a lot of p155ing about! It will probably be easier in the end just to make a neck!?!
-
@Christine that's kinda what I was thinking I would have to do or the other way I was thinking maybe cut the neck at the headstock at a 14° angle just past the nut then cut the neck back straight then joint the two peices back together with dowels or strengthen the joint?? What do you think?? 🤔

I think that's how music should be played with passion and presence! Flea is one of my bass idols so stuffy and refined just doesn't sit right with me!! 😁 -
I think that I'm going to do this build as a Fortress instead of a Corvette I'm still going to still keep it as a $$........ 😀
-
Glad to see you back, can't wait for the updates!!.............. 😀
