Its going for quite cheap aswell £35 + p&p! There's another drop top which has more of the burl on it but it's mostly down the centre so you would lose a lot of it with the pickups and bridge etc! My other option is some Golden Phoebe that might look quite nice??

Thanks to @Bassman666 I'm soon going to the owner of a 6 string bass perfect for a project which has got my creative juices flowing....... I'm probably going to go one of two ways using a nice Poplar burl drop top I've seen, either using my Quincy as a template and make my own take on a Wick Corvette or just strip the body and top it but I'm not overly excited about the original body shape!

Nadolig Llawen!! 😀

It's that orange that I thought they must have used Tango to stain it, I was thinking of leaving it near the window so the sun gets on it and it might lighten up a bit but then I realised I lived in Wales so not much sun so the UV lamp idea sounds like a good idea 😀
-
Yeah they could work I've got one that I could try but it's massive so I might try and get hold of a smaller one?? 🤔 I just hope that the neck will mellow a bit because it looks like I've drowned it in Tango!! 😁

Hi I'm trying to improve my playing so I'm looking for a tutor to help me, I'm based in Denbigh if anyone can recommend someone I'd be very grateful Thanks
-
That's stunning!! 🤤
-
I took a punt on a block and binded, maple board for just over £30 to use on my unbranded P bass refinish, the neck and fretwork feels lovely but it said it was 'vintage amber' but it's more like orange its not the colour I wanted but I think it looks OK? For the money you can't really go wrong!! 😀
-
My missus let me have the neck early so I managed to get it all fitted and all strung up with some flats 😀 Its not as dark as in the picture just crap lighting (Sorry)
-
I had that problem with my pickup screws on my last build I piloted the hole first then waxed the screw and they still sheared!! I think it's just the quality of screws now a days isn't the same as it was (I must be getting old I never thought I'd hear myself say that) 😳
-
Like you I had never had/tried flats so I bought a set of Adagios to fit on my Jazz and I really like them in fact I'm going to fit them on my P bass once I've finished refinishing it and on my Warwick copy
-
I think that would look great! I keep toying with the idea of doing a Jag build but I will probably cheat and buy a Jazz body and modify it
-
Still needs a few more coats of oil but I couldn't resist putting it together to see how it looks?? 😀
-
I think I've learnt from that mistake!! 😁
-
You are one lucky fella!! 😁
-
Yeah it's not bad for a bass that cost me £25 I think it's a Guild or Gould or some other cheap as chips thing that was shocking pink when I bought it!!........ 😀
-
Here's a bit more sanding with a quick wipe of tinted Danish oil 😀
-
My plan was to make my unbranded P bass look more like this.......... But when I started to sand this body to refinish it White ready to fit my new maple block and binded neck, to my surprise the body has actually got some really nice grain to it!! So I might now just Danish oil it with a black pickguard instead??.......... The body is really light so I thought it might have been Basswood or Paulownia?? But looking at that grain I'm not so sure??..........
-
I've flipped the pic so you don't get confused anymore.......... 😁
-
@SpondonBassed on answer to your question about how it hangs on a strap, for me it hangs perfectly I think if the top horn was shorter it might suffer a bit from neck dive?..........
-
Sorry but I completely disagree sometimes less is more!!...............
-
@dyerseve lovely job of the refinishing!! As I've posted before I'm a big fan of Wicks but can't afford to buy a real one so I'm starting to do an Ash body $$ corvette type build and really want to do it Nirvana Black Out of interest have you ever refinished any basses in Nirvana Black because whatever I try comes out a really dark brown and I can't seem to find where I can source anything that reassembles the right colour ?? I don't know if I'm barking up the wrong tree but is a dyed finish not a nitro finish?? 😀
-
I dont like to sit around twiddling my thumbs so as well as planning this I'm doing a couple of refinishes one on my P bass ready do the new neck Santa is bringing me (vintage style maple block and binded) and I'm refinishing my 'Tropia' 5 string bass as I didn't like the gloss finish on it so that having a new coat if Danish oil and I'm fitting a preamp in it aswell......... 😀
