  1. Yeah your probably right I'm just being a skin-flint 😀
  2. The neck is now all painted just got to change the nut then its done Body has had its first coat of primer and the pickguard has had its first top coat, the pickups should be here in the next couple of days so I can then finish the routing I thought I'd try and save a few quid and spray the bridge black I don't know how well it will work?? 🤔
  3. If it was me I'd go Sonic/Daphne Blue with a Mint pickguard but either way I think this will look really nice!! 😀
  4. Very nice!! I'd personally go without the pickguard, Are you going to go trans on the finish or solid colour?? 😀
  5. I suppose if I used a matt lacquer over the top it might come out OK I'll have to have a go? I could always satin lacquer it afterwards if it looks pants!! Your right Vantablack does look awesome if there is any teachers on here see if they can get a sample but I reckon it's not cheap tho!! 😁
  6. Personally I prefer Matt Black to Gloss or Satin but I'm just a bit worried that if I do it Matt Black it might end up looking like a chalkboard? 😀
  7. The arm and belly carve have all been done now!! The neck and body have been undercoated and now drying overnight!! I'm not sure tho if the top coat should be satin or gloss?? 🤔
  8. The painters touch spray that I'm using is quite good it does cover a lot better than some of the car paints I've used 😀
  9. Ha ha that was a good one SUN-shine!! 😁
  10. First coat of yellow is on now! 😀
  11. Got the neck all sanded and reshaped the headstock to a more traditional tele style! I have started shaping the body and going to rout out for the controls and pups then I can get some paint on this bad boy!! 😀
  12. Yeah your probably right I still need to finalise the position of them it was really just to see how they will look
  13. You know me too well mate I was thinking either yellow or white!! 😁
  14. I saw a 'stealth' telecaster bass that I really like the look of and I haven't got a black bass so I think I might give it a go 🤔
  15. I'm only doing it up to sell so I can get some funds for my scratch build, the price I'll be able to sell it for I won't be out of pocket so any profit is a bonus I'm keeping the pickguard that shape as I think it follows the shape of the body nicely 😀
  16. Theres going to be a change of colour with this build as a fella I work with is going to buy it when it's finished for his nephew but he wants it the same yellow as my 5 string P But it's now undercoated so I've just got to flatten it a bit then I'll start spraying it 😀
  17. The polished alu was all dented and knackered so I thought I'd just go normal poly pickguard Trying to incorporate both style pickguards here's what I came up with?? I cut some ply to the size of the pickups I'm probably going to use, I think the placement works OK?? It's a slab body so I've still got to do the arm and belly carves before I start painting it 😀
  18. I've been thinking........... I've got a sheet of polished alu in the workshop so I could do a 1 piece pickguard but I really like the shape of a 72 telebass pickguard and the classic telecaster so I could try and incorporate the 2?? 🤔
  19. Managed to get a little bit more done today neck pocket is now routed and I've been having a bit of a play with the pickguard shape I kinda like the classic tele shaped pickguard with the jazz control plate Just got to decide what pup config would look best I'm still thinking the double MM would look really good?
  20. That top is stunning saying that so is the back you are a very lucky man!! Can't wait to watch this progress!! I only wish that I could afford Mr ACG to build me a bass but alas that will never happen unless he would take my missus and kids in part exchange!?! 😁
  21. Sorry I get the point your making but I completely disagree with your logic if you only make a template (computer or otherwise) if you are going to do the same shape repeatedly why do most people make a template to build a guitar body if they aren't going to use it again?? If it's for accuracy then surely isn't that what CNC machines were designed for?? Also sorry but if you watch any custom bike building programs they more often than not use a CNC to cut the 1 off pieces required for the build And finally sorry @Marcoelwray for the thread hijack I promise that was the last post I'll do about the off topic subject 😀
  22. @Hellzero sorry but the point I was trying to make wasn't aimed at mass production guitars it was that a Luthier making a one off bass would make the same quality guitar by using a CNC machine or doing it by hand
  23. I think it's a bit harsh to say there's no style and craftsmanship in CNC you still have to have style to create a design and you need to have craftsman skills to assemble and do a high end finish IMHO there's not much difference in using a CNC than say a bandsaw, pin router, thicknesser, tablesaw etc Ithey are all just tools to aid you with the building process
  24. The pickguard is made I've just temporarily covered it in black vinyl to see how it looks
