  1. I didn't think of that, I'll probably round off the corners a bit? πŸ‘
  2. Hi I had a quick search on here for the answer but couldn't find out what I need to know?? I need a bit if advice I'm going to be wiring up my 5 string Jazz-ish bass I'm using this wiring diagram as a reference If I wire up exactly the same as this I have to move a couple of wires from one terminal to another but my pickup wires branch in to 2 a white sleeved and a red sleeved with an unsleeved wire wrapped around it the red?? Am I right in think that the white is the hot and the red is the ground? So do I solder both the red and the unsleeved to the top of the pot as a ground or do they need to be wired up separately?? Thanks for any advice in advanceπŸ˜ƒ
  3. You make it look so effortless!! Don't suppose you fancy giving me a hand when I buy my fretboard? 😁
  4. The colour of the veneer in the photo is a lot darker than it is in the flesh (crappy fluorescent tube lighting in the workshop) I'll take some new pics in my kitchen which has cool white bulbs But I get what you mean in the pic it does look like it clashes, I could always scrape the paint off the edge so it's white then it might contrast better? πŸ˜€
  5. I think I prefer it with the pickguard, but I'll have another look once I've done the block inlays πŸ˜€
  6. I've just to to reposition the knobs, polish the back up and get some self adhesive MOP blocks But it's virtually finished now and I'm leaving it like this!! No more refinishing!! πŸ˜€ With pickguard? Or without??
  7. I'm thinking of inking the fretboard darker? Would Fiebings leather dye be the way to go? πŸ€”
  8. Lovely job!! That's the next job I've got to do on my build I'm thinking of using the rocklite ebano fretboard like you did on your les paul πŸ˜€
  9. I remembered that I had 3/4 size squier strat in my dad's loft so I've decided to finish this one and probably try and sell it and refinish the squier instead I'm going to finish it in purple glitter paint so it will be nice and girly! it might even have a unicorn on it somewhere if she's lucky πŸ˜€
  10. The veneer is all trimmed and sanded and first coat of Poly applied I've decided not to veneer the headstock in the end I prefer it maple! πŸ˜€
  11. I'm with Reggaebass the lighter neck looks better! Add some blocks and that will look awesome!! 😁
  12. After reading this all I can picture is you dressed like this ripping and thicknessing timber 😁
  13. Managed to rout out the pickup cavities to the correct depth, filled the old control knob holes and veneered the top waiting for the glue to go off so I can trim and sand the sides I've still got the headstock to do but I'll do that tomorrow I used Andys iron on technique but belt and braces and all that πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
  14. Oh well!! I didn't win the bass so this project will be put on hold again till I find another bass or have the money to finish it πŸ™
  15. The other option I'm considering is to use the neck but keep the pickups for another project and get the soapbar pickups I planned for this build, but stain the body as I'm not really feeling the look of this body but I'm not sure what colour yet I suppose I could try and lime it to make it white-ish??
  16. I just got it off Google images so of course I don't mind as it's not mine anyway I just thought it was quite apt πŸ˜€
  17. If I win this crappy G4M Harlem X that's on ebay for really cheap that's only 2 miles from where I work! Hopefully I will be taking the parts off of it and using them to finish this project. The body will have to be altered to fit the P/J pickups so I'm probably going to paint it not entirely sure what colour as yet I'm probably thinking White but we'll have to wait and see.......... πŸ˜€
  18. I've been thinking of doing a performer as a build for a while (when I finally finish some of my other projects and manage to sneak them into the house so the Mrs doesn't see them!!) but the headstock shape definitely has to go I'd probably do more of a standard Fender-ish shape instead 😁
  19. Im on the fence about the newer shaped dimension I really like the flow of the pickguard but not overly taken with the shape of the top horn But I've always liked the shape of the performer Bass πŸ˜€
  20. Looking good mate! πŸ˜€
  21. And if it goes wrong you could always turn it in to a seat 😁
  22. I really like the look of the '72, I should have done mine with a humbucker instead of split coil then I would have probably kept it? I love the look of the 2 saddle bridge but I always wondered how to you set the intonation properly with only 2 screws? Great job mate! πŸ˜€
  23. The frets have been levelled, crowned and polished (it was easier than I thought it was going to be!) Now the buzz has stopped!! Thanks for all the advice everyone Just got to sort the electrics out, do the refinish then do the shielding then it should be good to go πŸ˜€
  24. Yeah it should be OK as the bridge is going to be quite far back it might look a bit like the corvette $$ where they are close together but if it doesn't look right I'll just put 1 in instead.........
  25. That was my intention that I hoped it will look a bit quirky/weird/different It's going to have a maple/maple block neck I'm not a fan of the Jag style switches or the boat jacks so I'm probably going to stick with the side jack, also I'm considering a bridge cover but we'll have to see about that? I'm not a 100% sure on the pickup config as yet I'm still swaying towards a double MM style πŸ˜€
