  1. I think that's gonna look really good!! What are you going to make it out of? I was considering doing that style pickguard on my nod to a fortress build (5 string Ibanez new body thread) but I bottled it and did a Adam Clayton streamer style pickguard instead 😀
  2. That's a fitting tribute to a legend! 👍
  3. Looking forward to these builds as I don't quite agree with your statement (Ducks and takes cover!!) But you made a believer of me re the Les Paul twins so let's see what happens?!? 😀
  4. I'm 38 and I've been asked if I wanted to join 3 different bands but I've found it's my ability thats the issue not my age 😁
  5. I think if I do it again on another build I will paint the chequer on instead.........
  6. That's exactly what I was thinking 😀
  7. I keep looking at this bass and I can't get it out of my head that the chequered body is a bit too much!?! I really love it on the chequered pickguard on my other basses and also the vinyl is lifting in places and won't stay down when I stick them back down so I'm considering 1 final refinish. This is what I've got planned sorry the picture is a bit crappy but you get the general idea Also once I get the neck sorted I'm going to do self adhesive block inlays on it...........😀
  8. Sounds like the way to go look forward to seeing them all 😀
  9. IMO that is the only way to go and if you put black hardware on it as well I think it would look killer!!
  10. I don't like red either my White P bass started off red and that was the first thing I changed! My favourite colours are White or Orange but I'm really feeling Yellow as well which I'm thinking of a re finish on my 5 string P and I'm considering changing the rosewood neck to maple so I'm really interested in seeing how the yellow one looks with the maple neck 😀
  11. Noooooo Tort is wrong on so many levels!! The only place I like to see Tort is in the bin!! 😁
  12. Looking good!! I've never really been a fan of the sky blue-ish colour but that looks really nice, but I'm a bit of a sucker for a maple block neck...... 😀
  13. I suppose you've got a point but it's very noticeable when I'm trying to get the action where I want it the G string is really high around the 5th fret then goes OK again the further up the neck and I can't get the intonation anywhere near right on the D and G strings? Also I don't know if this is related but as soon as I tuned the D string up it sounded dead so I just thought it was a dead string so I put a brand new string on yesterday and that one sounds dead as well??
  14. Just a quick update on the neck situation after a lot of checking and double checking it turns out that the neck is twisted (probably why I got the kit so cheap thanks Mr honest eBay seller!!! 😠) So my thinking is now is to buy a proper 5 string neck and do the pickups etc make it into a proper 5 string.........
  15. Definitely go with the white!!
  16. Normally that would be the case that the neck would straighten itself but because I had to put a back bow in the neck to compensate for the extra tension so once I remove the strings I will have to straighten the neck again I am going to make my own notched straight edge with an 600mm metal ruler I've got and I've got a rectangle box section of alu that I'm going to use as a fret levelling bar but I just need to dig out my needle files so I can crown the frets
  17. Yeah me too what was the original title??
  18. That is stunning!!
  19. Yeah the 10th is definitely low because it rocks if I go from the 8 9 10 or 10 11 12 but not if 10 is in the middle but as @Andyjr1515 has said I'll check them all and will probably have to level all the frets which that part I'm fine with, its the crowning and polishing that I'm a bit concerned about doing but I'm sure there's some YouTube vids to help me on my way The main bit that's concerning me is that because I had to give the neck a bit of a back bow, am I right in thinking I will have to adjust the truss rod again to make the neck straight then do the work on the frets then adjust it back again before I string it back up?? The neck was brand new and I had only played on it for a couple of days before I did the conversion so I think it is probably not very good workmanship the kit was very cheap so I guess you get what you pay for But I still can't understand that the fret looks low the whole width of the fretboard but it's only the A string affected?? 🤯
  20. Did you give your bass the last rites before you put it in the 'case'? 😋
  21. @Andyjr1515 I just tried a credit card from the 9-12th fret and there was no high spots it didn't rock but the 10th fret is lower than the others, would a low fret cause fret buzz as well?
  22. @Woodinblack and @Andyjr1515 thanks for the advice I had discounted the high fret idea because I thought that if the feet was high it would be across all strings not just 1 string but I'll put my rocker on it later to have a look.......
  23. Because of needing to do some work on my 5 string I thought I'd take the opportunity to swap the strings over onto this bass So here's what I found out........ Due to the extra tension the neck had too much relief so the action was way too high! I tried lowering the saddles but to get them to a nice playing height it caused a massive amount of fret buzz if I went anywhere near the 12th fret! so to overcome this I loosened the strings off adjusted the truss rod by giving the neck less relief then when I tuned up the neck is now virtually straight problem solved I thought!?! Every other string now is nice and low with no feet buzz but I have fret buzz only on the 10th fret of the A string (go higher or lower up or down the fretboard and it stops) Any ideas anyone what the problem is and how to sort it out???? Other than that I really like the string spacing I find it nice and easy to get around the fretboard if anything it has speeded up my playing so if I can sort out the A string problem I'm really happy with the conversion and would definitely do it to my Jazz bass aswell!! 😀
  24. I am thinking if using them plans to do a long scale Jag (as I don't like short scale I find them too flappy if you know what I mean?) the same way @Pea Turgh has thought of doing it modifying a Jazz body but more in the style of a Squier VM than a traditional Jag
  25. Maybe this might help? https://sites.google.com/site/guitarplanscollection/pdf-files/fender-ish There's the link it's the Jagbass. PDF so you can print it off if you want......
