  1. @Woodinblack and @Andyjr1515 thanks for the advice I had discounted the high fret idea because I thought that if the feet was high it would be across all strings not just 1 string but I'll put my rocker on it later to have a look.......
  2. Because of needing to do some work on my 5 string I thought I'd take the opportunity to swap the strings over onto this bass So here's what I found out........ Due to the extra tension the neck had too much relief so the action was way too high! I tried lowering the saddles but to get them to a nice playing height it caused a massive amount of fret buzz if I went anywhere near the 12th fret! so to overcome this I loosened the strings off adjusted the truss rod by giving the neck less relief then when I tuned up the neck is now virtually straight problem solved I thought!?! Every other string now is nice and low with no feet buzz but I have fret buzz only on the 10th fret of the A string (go higher or lower up or down the fretboard and it stops) Any ideas anyone what the problem is and how to sort it out???? Other than that I really like the string spacing I find it nice and easy to get around the fretboard if anything it has speeded up my playing so if I can sort out the A string problem I'm really happy with the conversion and would definitely do it to my Jazz bass aswell!! ๐Ÿ˜€
  3. I am thinking if using them plans to do a long scale Jag (as I don't like short scale I find them too flappy if you know what I mean?) the same way @Pea Turgh has thought of doing it modifying a Jazz body but more in the style of a Squier VM than a traditional Jag
  4. Maybe this might help? https://sites.google.com/site/guitarplanscollection/pdf-files/fender-ish There's the link it's the Jagbass. PDF so you can print it off if you want......
  5. Or keep it till November and you'll have something to start your bonfire with!! ๐Ÿ˜
  6. I've been chopping and changing between my Jazz and this bass and the action is still too high for my liking but...... I hit a bit of a snag trying to lower it! I must have gone a bit too shallow when routing the pickup cavities because now the strings are too close to the pickups and they are getting interference so....... I thought whilst I rout the pickups deeper I will sort out something that has really been bugging me and that's the spacing between the knobs obviously when I space them out the holes will be on show so I thought because I've got some veneer left over from my neck thru build I will put it to good use and veneer the top of this one eliminating the knob issue (that came out wrong!!๐Ÿคจ) I'm off for a week so I'll start that when I get back to work
  7. If you want roundabouts you should try Milton Keynes and it takes the title of s**t hole off Swindon aswell ๐Ÿ˜€
  8. Much better choice of body good luck!!
  9. I can french polish and it takes days to get a nice lustrous finish which is the problem with that finishing technique, because of this people don't do it as much now because it's very hard to earn any money doing it and the price you have to charge to make money most customers won't pay it! , I priced up to refinish/French polish a mahogany table top quite a few years ago, but because of the length of time it took to do it, it worked out I earnt under a ยฃ5 an hour so I didn't really bother doing it any more.......
  10. I hope you mean firkin in the tradional sense not the urban dictionary definition but I suppose you could dehydrate doing that in this heat too!!๐Ÿ˜
  11. Ive never liked a les paul bass till I saw yours!
  12. It's OK the toetectors will fit in nicely with my hard hat and hivis ensemble as I'm the new bassist for the village people ๐Ÿ˜
  13. They are my other basses I thought I'd do something a bit different on this one Maybe something like this,
  14. Not really a fan of brass but chequer plate sounds like an idea! ๐Ÿค” All I'm worried about is the extra weight if it's chrome but I'll see if I can find plastic chequer plate..........
  15. I did try and tell her that no one would like her if she played those twiddly 6 string things but she was adamant ๐Ÿ˜
  16. My 9yr old daughter has been bugging me to build her a guitar so I thought I'd better get started on it She's a bit too small for a bass at the mo so I had an old strat copy kicking about she wanted it orange after seeing my Jazz I'm just going to put a black pickguard on it and back cover and chrome hardware
  17. I'm thinking of maybe incorporating a Jazz pickguard and control plate into this build? I would have to modify the shape slightly and alter the angle of the control plate but it will look along these lines not sure what colour pickguard? I'm thinking probably Black?.......
  18. Sorry but I just threw up a bit reading this!! ๐Ÿคฎ
  19. I completely agree they are more hassle than their worth! yes they give you a consistent angle but if it's not set up correctly it will be consistently the wrong angle (especially the ones with the plastic flap thing that has the different angles on it) and my technique is moving the chisel in a figure of 8 movement which you can't do with a honing guide Its like everything the more you do it the better you get at it. ๐Ÿ˜€
  20. I use my Marple for my job as a joiner so I use nearly all the different widths depending what job I am doing as for my Ashley's I only use then for cabinet making or if I'm fitting Oak doors/cabinets etc As for the sharpening and how to sharpen my preference is oilstone for honing then diamond for sharpening (all done freehand) what angle do you set your chisels at? I set my 1/2" or smaller at 30-32ยฐ but my 3/4" and bigger are at 25-27ยฐ both I do a 2ยฐ micro bevel on aswell I think if your not in the trade then most people dont know what angles work best (even tho personal preference is a factor too) but I think that quite a few people on here would benefit from your knowledge if you did a how to guide ๐Ÿ˜€
  21. Here's mine I went for a bit brighter orange That yellow one would look awesome with black hardware!
