I don't think I'm going to stain it I like the white-ish and black, I've been looking at ebony boards and I'm still completely undecided to go light or dark but luckily I can't afford to buy the fretboard till the end of the month so I've got a few weeks to decide ๐ค
Thanks I like to push myself to try different things some work some don't but hey ho it's all part of life
Yeah my daughter Ashden has already tried to get me to make her a 3/4 sized electric guitar, she tried to hold my P Bass but bless her she couldn't reach past the 7th fret (she is only 9 tho) ๐
I like the really striking Basses like this one or my Blue and Orange 5 string conversion I know it's not to everyone's tastes but that's kinda my style (bold and brash)
Its one of the reason why I brand my Basses under 'Brash' the other is its a mashup of my kids names BRadley and ASHden ๐
I thought the grain was straight when I marked it out but I've got enough to re-cut it,
So I take it the look isn't to your taste?? Cross eyed!?! Hey I know I could call it 'Tropia' ๐
I've cut the veneer to slightly oversize and just temporarily double sided taped it in place ๐
Its going to have black hardware but I'm really liking the look of a light wood fretboard! I think with ebony it might look a bit too monochrome
I think I remember reading somewhere that they put the bridge covers on originally to cover the foam they used to dampen/mute the strings but I don't know what the purpose of the pickup cover is apart from as you say for astheatics, I'll have to investigate the and let you know ๐
Ive decided to go a bit more vintage looking so I've got a bridge cover hot footing it's way over from China, I was going to go for the metal pickup cover as well but Ive got the feeling that it would get in the way (not that I've ever played one with the pickup covers on?) ๐
I get bored on my lunch breaks and when I haven't got a lot of work on I get time to crack on with the various projects
No I'm an Essex boy but all my family come from East London but I grew up in North Essex so think Towie but not as common!! ๐
What I've read about the pickup poles not lining up perfectly doesn't really make a lot of difference but I'll have to wait and see how it affe ts it
Blue and Orange are on opposite sides of a colour wheel so the compliment each other perfectly
Where as I'm like that with red but I spose different strokes for different folks ๐
Yeah I don't think it will really make a difference to neck stability it's just more annoying than anything
Looking at other 4 to 5 string conversions the strings will still sit OK over the poles but if it's not I can just change the pickups for a rail magnet instead
White or black body and I think a matching headstock looks nice but I don't think it will suit a blue one but it's certainly not a dull looking bass ๐
Got it put back together today, now just waiting for the bridge, bridge cover and nut to arrive then I can finish it off ๐
@SpondonBassed your right the truss rod nut is slightly (2mm) off to the right of centre
I personally don't like the paisley pattern but you've done a really good job of it mate! ๐
I had a look on their website and I'm liking the Spalted Maple one as I've always wanted a Spalted topped bass but I'm worried that it will look too printed in the flesh if you know what I mean? I wonder if they do a sample piece? ๐ค
Looking at the pic of the headstock it does look like it's not central I'll have to check it when I go back to work tomorrow
I reckon it's just an optical illusion (well....I hope it is?!) ๐คจ
Got a coat of orange on it today whilst waiting for the neck to arrive
Its a bit patchy but I'm loving the orange!
@BrunoBass hopefully soon I'll be joining the orange bass club!! ๐
Yes very!!
I completely sanded the pickguard back to original and resprayed it and it looks OK now
Still need to sand the headstock back to maple as I don't think it would look right colour matched
I'm going to l leave them both till Sunday and start getting it all back together ready for the nut and bridge when they turn up ๐
I haven't got a clue what's going on first the body reacted (spotting), sanded it back a bit sprayed another coat now its fine
Put a final coat on the pickguard now that's reacted (crackled) ๐คฌ
