I don't think you appreciate the severity of the savage attack 😳
-
Fireman - this could be the start of something.. umm..

What error I can't see anything wrong!?! 😁 -
I'm using my Ibby neck as a reference so I've made a couple of templates for the profile, Hopefully once I get started the fear will go? I'll probably get that started on Sunday It was really nice up there till I got attacked by a couple of Seagull (there was 3 pairs of chicks up on the roof) thier beaks are really sharp they drew blood
-
I let you off this once but please don't do it again 😋 I had to Google what a pederson jig was and they look like a brilliant idea it would take all the hard work out of it! This is the first neck I've done so the thought of contouring the neck makes my bum squeak a bit 😥 I was down near your neck of the woods today enjoying the sun working on a roof that overlooks Puffin island

That neck taper jig is a really simple but brilliant idea it's a shame you didn't post it a few days ago I would have adopted for my build!! I need to make a radius jig but I won't be doing that for a while Do you shape the back of the neck by hand or do you use a jig? Because that's my next job over the weekend 😁

Because I'm swaying more to playing 5 string instead of 4 I thought I'd convert my '72 ish P bass onto a 5 string I have seen people doing this but keeping the 4 string neck and changing the nut and bridge, but to be honest I don't think I would be able to get on with the tight string spacing so I think I will get a 5 string neck and rout out the neck pocket and change it that way I'm still not 100% sure whether it's going to be a Tele or a Precision I'm leaning more toward a Tele but that could change? But here's the donor bass

‘72 style P Bass Kit Build finally FINISHED!!!
Jimothey replied to Jimothey's topic in Build Diaries
OK there's going to be another change to this bass, I now decided to convert this into a 5 string Tele or Precision I need to order a 5 string neck, bridge and pickups, I'll custom make the pickguard to fit this body The body I'll keep white and I'm still going to do the pickguard orange I'm not sure about whether to change the hardware to black or keep it chrome I'm then going to use the neck off this one on my telecaster shaped body build 😀 -
Finished Pics! A build for our own Len_derby

So are they letting you keep the old ones as compensation? -
Oooohh errrr missus 😁
-
I haven't decided if I am being very brave or very stupid as yet 🤨
-
Whack a couple of magic tree's in your car that will take the smell away 😁
-
I really liked the sound of a binding so I've decided to bind the neck and headstock with some Oak veneer I've got Also it's covered the discrepancy which is a bonus I'm going to leave it all clamped up till I'm back in work on Friday the start shaping and sanding everything 😀
-
I think that's what I'll do as it is only for me As per usual I'm overthinking it!! 🙄
-
That is my main concern but I can't see any other way at the moment? Maybe when I radii (I think that's the right word?) the neck most of it might be removed? 🤔
-
Thanks but I had a bit of an accident today, routers and hay-fever don't mix! half way through routing the neck blank my eyes started streaming and had a sneezing fit and before I could switch the router off I nicked the neck near the nut 🤬 So the only thing is I can think to get over it is if I carefully rout the neck 6mm thinner on each side (which is the width of the Oak strip wood then glue it on)
-
Thanks mate I've just got to finish doing the tapers then I'm ready to glue the wings on 😀
-
No Woodinblack is right it didn't adhere well at all I probably should have used a different glue but I swapped it for Oak instead 😀
-
Got a bit more done today, Headstock cut started to redo the taper and took some of the bulk off the back of the neck aswell

No worries it should already be to the correct size, when you print it click it actual size and click poster then it will print out multiple sheets -
Got Wood, Have Plan, Need Help/Advice.........
Jimothey replied to donslow's topic in Repairs and Technical
I don't know how authentic these plans are but maybe this might help or at least point you in the right direction? https://sites.google.com/site/guitarplanscollection/pdf-files/fender-ish The top two are 51 P Bass body and neck pdf's -
They both sound interesting, Basses with LEDs isn't really my thing but I'd be interested in seeing how you do it and how it turns out?? I'm really not keen on fret dots either I much prefer a block! I'm not sure on this build to whether to try and do the blocks out if the veneer I'm going to use or leave the fretboard plain? What you going to cover on the podcasts?.......
-
Intriguing!?! What's the project then??? 🤔
-
Well it's official Sapele, Polycarbonate and Gorilla glue not a good combo!! I thought the neck was solid but NO!!!!! It's just split when I was gluing on the wings 🤬 So last minute alteration I found some Oak strip wood so the neck is now Sapele and Oak I'll have to redo the taper when it's dry then glue on the wings... But if I do say so myself it was starting to looking good 😁

Morning I've routed out for the truss rod with a 6mm bit and went just a smidge over 9mm deep, and I've thinned down the wings to 35mm Hopefully on my lunch I'm going to do the taper of the neck and try and get the wings all glued on Here's the link for how stewmac tell you to fit a truss rod https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Learn_About_Truss_Rod_Installation_and_Repair/Truss_Rod_Installation.html&ved=0ahUKEwis2pv-6NjbAhWEA8AKHR8NB8UQFggnMAE&usg=AOvVaw2OroVE96fn1E7jqIdJMHNX 😀

Cheers for the advice and pics if it's good enough for you I'll take it!! 😁 I read on stewmac's website to fill the sides with epoxy but reading your explanation not gluing it at all makes a lot more sense! So I don't mess it up the one I've been looking at is 6mm wide x 9mm height if I thinking correctly when I rout out the channel it needs to be a tight fit?
