  1. Cheers mate just out of interest what glue do you use to stick them in normal wood glue or epoxy?
  2. I just thought it would make it easier Ref the truss rod the shortest I've found that should work is a 435mm one which comes to here? To me that should work perfect but I still would prefer some advice on it πŸ˜€
  3. I think this shows it better how I'm going to do it I asked that question on this thread and started one on the repairs/technical and just got told that the truss rod needs to end at the end if the fretboard But I asked the same question as you surely it doesn't need to go a lot past the torn horn as the neck can't move beyond that point anyway??
  4. That's just a mock up I've decided just to taper the whole neck then glue the wings on as it looked a bit odd when I set it up with the neck left parallel when it meets the body but I'm not ready to glue up yet I still need to rout out for the truss rod Which I'm still not sure what length I need it to be?
  5. Yeah before I glued up the laminations for the neck with a utility knife I criss-cross scored the polycarbonate then glued it together and it seems (🀞) to be holding But I think a strongly worded email is needed to gorilla glue STICKS EVERYTHING MY derrière!!
  6. I think that the surface of the polycarbonate is too smooth so the glue isn't getting a very good/strong key to it I don't think I scored it on the body laminate but I definitely did on the neck??? πŸ€”
  7. Couldn't get as much as I hoped done! Marked out for the taper and truss rod and cut the wings, but............ For some reason the neck is completely solid but the body split apart (Note to self maybe the polycarbonate might not have been a good idea..... But at least I tried!?!) so luckily I had some more sapele which is 44mm thick so I've used that and a going to plane it to about 38mm
  8. You know what they say 2nd times a charm 😁 I've decided to leave a little V-ish shape at the bottom of the headstock (kind of a volute you might call it) just to give it a but more meat on the joint
  9. Managed to sort out the scarf joint today The jobs over the weekend will be: 1. Rout out for the truss rod 2. Start thinning out the neck 3. Cut headstock and taper the neck 4. Cut and glue the wings on (hopefully will get time) πŸ€”
  10. That's looking really good mate! I'll have to send you mine for my build 😁
  11. That just sounds so wrong on so many levels!! 😱
  12. I was always under the impression that the jet engine was invented by Frank Whittle who is British??
  13. Yeah No!! I won't be doing that!! 😁
  14. Well I thought if it works then you have got a wide varieties of colours to use instead of just different shades of woods and it's cheaper than some constructional veneers πŸ˜€
  15. No but they use perspex and materials like that so I thought why not give it a go? πŸ˜€
  16. Gorilla glue, I scored the poly first to get a key as well......
  17. No its Sapele and white polycarbonate (I saw it and thought it why not?!?!) I didn't remake the neck I just made a new small length and recut the scarf joint.........
  18. Could start shaping the neck today I had to redo the scarf joint as I right royally balls it up 🀬 (probably the first of many) But that's now gluing up so I'll try and get the shaping done tomorrow.......
  19. That's what I'm thinking because the top horn comes over a third down the length of the neck So surely anything past that point won't be able to be adjusted by the truss rod
  20. I'm making a 5 string neck thru single cut at the minute and I'm just doing the neck it's a 34" scale and I'm almost ready to fit the truss rod What size do I need to get? The fretboard is approx 25" do I need one that will go from the nut to the heel of the fretboard? Or because of the construction of it would that be overkill?
  21. Didn't really manage to get a lot done today as I'm still trying to get my head round how the wings are going to fit with a lot of help and advice from @Andyjr1515 I managed to get the scarf joint cut and glued up Hopefully I'll start shaping the neck tomorrow.......... πŸ˜€
  22. 'The figure is reportedly caused by unfavorable growing conditions for the tree. The Sugar Maple attempts to start numerous new buds to get more sunlight, but with poor growing conditions the new shoots are aborted, and afterward a number of tiny knots remain. Birdseye Maple is frequently sold in veneer form, but solid lumber is available as well. Being tiny knots, the birdseye figure is most noticeable and pronounced on flatsawn pieces of lumber' I don't know if that helps??.........
  23. Just wondering what size truss rod would I need as being a single cut does it need to run to where the neck meets the body at the bottom horn of would it just need to run to near to the end of the top horn? πŸ˜€
  24. I'm Denbigh so we've almost got enough people to start the North Wales bass bash πŸ˜€
