  1. I've finally had time to start on the neck and body laminations And here's how the body will sit I'm kinda leaning towards a maple fretboard (this is just ply for illustrative purposes) Hopefully I'll get time to glue it up today............ 😀
  2. Its bad enough having to spend it with 60 kids but having to go to Doncaster as well I feel your pain!! 😁
  3. I use the 1000grit wet and dry from Halfords it's quite cheap as well and I've never had a problem with it..........
  4. Looking good! I really do like that top! I think that the bottom horn would look better shortened a bit 😀
  5. Just being nosey I noticed on your profile your in North Wales? I'm in Denbigh where abouts are you? 😀
  6. Their coming on very nicely!! I use one of the carving wheels on a grinder when I’m doing the belly carve, they are definitely unforgiving!! 😀
  7. I’m still undecided I think I’ll keep both and change them as my mood takes me.......😀
  8. Another stunning bass very jealous!!😠
  9. The Walnut burr looks really nice but when I cut it to the shape you lose most of the figuring The Zebrano is my favourite as well Here’s the mock-up with Ebony fretboard and matching headstock The pickup config is going to change to soapbars with all black hardware 😀
  10. Or you’ve got Walnut Burr Or Red Ebony
  11. I’ve been having a little play on Inkscape with different veneers and I’m really liking the Zebrano I think it will look nice against the Sapele body and Ebony fretboard.........😀
  12. They sound really good, I was looking at the Ebano one for my next builds, also they are quite a bit cheaper than real ebony too
  13. I’ve seen them advertised but never actually known of anyone who’s used them How are they weight wise? And how easy do you reckon they going to be slot for the frets?.........
  14. I thought maybe a posh one might have a cravat and paisley smoking jacket and a common one is just wearing Burberry check (sorry I’m just being facetious) The macassar ebony veneer does sound really nice (that’s what I’ve got planned for my 5 string single cut build)
  15. I’m just intrigued what a posh Thunderbird looks like opposed to a common one?
  16. I would save them up and when you have a enough of them take them to a scrap dealer and get the scrap value for them and then that would pay for the next lot
  17. Thanks but I’ve got some MM pickups to go in it
  18. Thanks, good luck with yours as well......
  19. I haven’t started it yet, I’m hopefully going to do this soon as I’ve got the body just sitting there, I’ve got most of the hardware I just need to order a neck........
  20. I reckon this one will be quite a long build in comparison to my other ones recently I thought it was time to try and do a neck thru, my plan is to use sapele for the neck laminated with a couple of accent lines haven’t decided what to use yet for the accents, but I really like the feel of the neck on my 5 string ibby so I’m going to use that as a reference. Im just looking at fretboards at the mo im thinking a Maple one so it’s all not too dark and because the body and neck is predominantly going to be Sapele I’m going to try and get maybe Oak burr or a light coloured veneer like the Macassar Ebony I keep looking at?? Im getting quite excited about this build (and also bricking it at the same time)...........
  21. I didn’t want to do the pickguard white, black, cream, tort etc and so there was only one colour to pick!!
  22. Can’t wait to see these take shape they are stunning basses
  23. After all the deliberations and colour changes there’s something about it that I don’t like whether it’s the pickguard shape/colour I’m not sure, but I’m going to be putting a new pickguard on it and make it into a P/J instead I’m thinking Orange will look good
  24. I can’t bring myself to replace the body on this P bass This was the first bass I bought when I decided to start trying to play again For a cheap £25 unbranded bass it plays and feels really nice So this is now going to be a new build instead I’m going to try and do this as a 5 string thru neck so I’m gonna need some advice when I get round to starting it
  25. That’s the image I had in my head when I was planning this build, I’m glad I decided to put a pickguard on it!! @Andyjr1515 your right for just a little thing it has completely changed the look
