  1. I just made my own template with a center line on it and used Mammoth double sided tape to hold it in position (that stuff is the strongest double sided tape I’ve ever used it didn’t move a mm) Obviously that wasn’t finished but I didn’t take anymore pictures of it It’s a lot easier to make than you think.......
  2. I had naff all to do at work this morning so I thought I’d crack on (and it does helps that I’m in a joinery shop tho) I’m just going to glue the blank up now
  3. Template made and sanded...... Blank all cut and set out ready to glue up a bit later...... Here’s the top.... And here’s the back (it’s not quite centered but it’s just a rough guide)....
  4. I kept the other build quite conservative so I thought I’d try something a bit more interesting this time I’m going to be cutting and gluing up the blank tomorrow which might be fun with the offset waist as obviously I want the pine on top to be inline with neck and pickups I don’t know why but I feel this build needs a name but I can’t think of one at the moment suggestions please??............
  5. Thanks, It’s kinda loosely based on a cross between a Warwick Dolphin and Fortress.....
  6. Whilst I’m waiting for some more paint to arrive to finish the 70’sP Bass I’m gonna get started on a new build I’m doing it out of sapele and pine again but slightly different to the ibby body build Its going to be pine backed with a couple of sapele lines in then sapele wings with pine in the middle, with soap bar closed pickups not sure what colour hardware Black or Chrome I’ll decide when I’ve made the body I’m going to buy the neck which is a eBay special maple/maple with blocks full paddle
  7. I wasn’t going to put a truss rod cover on it and I was just going to paint the shape on not have a plate, but it’s something to consider.......
  8. That is the way I do it but once you’ve gone down to the maximum depth from the top using the template with a top bearing cutter I then turn the body over and swap to a bottom bearing cutter so the bearing runs on the bit you all ready cut then that eliminates the problem with Allen key collar......
  9. That’s very philosophic for this time of the morning!!! I completely agree with you tho!!.......
  10. For some reason I couldn’t get the pickguard etc to fill on Inkscape but this will give you a rough idea Pickguard still Black and section of headstock with 1 tuner hole black and the rest Cream
  11. Yeah I tried to use freecad but it was very complicated so I started using sketchup to design my furniture instead but now I prefer Inkscape Also the guitars in the joinery shop at work and I’m not back in work till Friday so it’s easier doing the designs at home I’ll post some pics later......
  12. I’d be interested in seeing that build!! I was considering for this build putting 2 MM pickups in that position but decided against it in the end now I wish I hadn’t!!
  13. Yeah I was thinking along the same lines as that but doing it on Inkscape I’ll give it a go and see what I can come up with.......
  14. Do you reckon it should mirror the pickguard or just be a aesthetically pleasing wavy line??
  15. I have to echo everyone else that looks stunning!!
  16. Mines the bass I just finished all the hardware and neck is from an Ibanez GSR205 but I remade the body
  17. I’m kinda tempted by @SpondonBassed‘s idea of the headstock detail like this sort of thing But I don’t know how it will look on fender-ish shaped headstock tho??
  18. Looks really good!! Great job!!
  19. Just wanted to see whether it all ties in together, All the hardware is going to be chrome I’m still not 100% sure whether to paint the headstock Cream or would it look better Black or should I just leave it Maple???
  20. On the right bass I think they look great but never in tort!!!
  21. I’m on a low carb diet so maybe that’s why I don’t like tort(ellini)
  22. No that’s just the first coat but it’s going to be a satin finish anyway as I’m not a fan of gloss finish on painted and the pickguard will be satin too It’s a rosewood board so I’m in agreement to colour match it
  23. What is it with you and tort!!!!! Now who’s being a filthy scumbag how about you put some closed tort pickup covers on your build!!!!!
  24. Looking at the Black I’m swaying more towards that colour now!! Its got a nice contrast as @SpondonBassed said it’s yin yang-esque I think we have a winner!!!!
  25. That’s what I was thinking as I’ve gone to the effort to fill the cavities and rerout them, Still not sure on the pickguard colour yet?? (That’s just a very rough cut pickguard to visually compare)
