  1. You’ve done a really good job!! I second SpondonBassed you will inspire others to give it a go!! Also yours and others write up of the quality of the HB has prompted me to start looking at their 5 string PB (I personally like the look without the pickguard!!......)
  2. I’m with the @TheGreek the Ronseal looks a lot better (the osmo stills looks great) as the grain just pops being more glossy I found that if I brush the first coat on unthinned trying not to leave too many ridges then leave it for a day then do the rest of the coats wiped on thinned it seems to go on better (but that’s just my technique) But I’m a bit odd I like gloss on natural wood but satin on painted......
  3. How much do you thin yours down mine must have been about 60 (hardglaze)/40 (Thinners)? I’ve thought about giving this a go to see how it comes out....
  4. I must have been lucky as the kitchen towel didn’t disintegrate at all
  5. That looks lovely!!! I bet Jane is chomping at the bit to get her hands on it!!!....... I tried using a microfibre cloth when I used thinned down hardglaze on my Jazz but it kept leaving streaks so I ended up using folded kitchen towel (which worked a lot better for me)......
  6. Thanks but Ive already got the pickups I inherited them off one of my mates who just swapped them out of his ibby bass I will be keeping the bass as it’s not going to be worth anything resale (like all my basses) Because I want the full paddle maple fretboard with blocks I think it works out to be just over £35 but it’s coming from China tho but I can wait.....

No all she ever says is ‘is it in yet?’
  8. Thanks I’m going to use soap bar pickups instead of Jazz Hopefully I’ll be able to start it in the next week well at least cut and shape the body The neck you bought for your P Bass build is it a Kmise neck?
  9. Sorry I misunderstood what you meant but yeah agreed using a router without its base isn’t for the faint hearted (I do it with my 1/4” router when I’m doing engraving) Also climb cutting after conventional cutting is a good way to remove burn marks......

Just remember it’s not the size of the instrument that counts it’s what you and do with it!!!!! 🤭
  11. That’s a good method if you don’t feel comfortable using a router but if you make up a jig I find using a router the easiest way of doing things as you can keep a consistent depth and the cut will be cleaner What you said about climb milling is right as if you use that method you run the risk of losing control of the router as the cutter is trying to push away from the piece of timber and you should never attempt to climb cut with a non-bearing cutter but I do climb cutting when I’ve rounded of the edge of the body using conventional cutting then go back over it climb cutting as it cleans the edge up really well Its starting to take shape now and looking really good!!!.......
  12. Lovely looking bass!!!! Love the spalted beech bass aswell !!......
  13. Couldn’t agree more with this statement!! I have serious GAS but I can’t afford to buy what I desire so I’ve decided to either make my own version for a fraction of the price or upgrade a bass that I like playing
  14. I didn’t think out turned out bad for £90 all in....... Now I’ve just got to learn to play it better!!
  15. For that kind of money I hope they are!!! I would have to sell my truck to afford a bass like that!!!.......
  16. No it was really nice to sand and finish I kept mine Natural so it was literally seal the body then 5/6 coats of thinned down poly Flatten and polish
  17. Thanks that figured Olive Ash which is in the same family as Olive but slightly different grain colouring and pattern
  18. The first Orange bass looks nice but so does the Olympic White!!!..... But either one would be good looking bass!!!......
  19. The only olive topped Guitar I could find is this....... Looking at it on a guitar I’m not too sure now But where as this I really like..... Except if I do it, it would be Wenge top and bottom with a pine core and not a neck thru.......... Oh and chrome hardware...........
  20. I was swaying more towards the white Ebony, Olive or the Wenge I thought the Olive looked a bit different as I haven’t seen it used as a guitar top before (to be fair I haven’t looked tho).....
  21. Looks nice!! I really like the paulownia bodies they are cheap and light and sometimes have a nice grain pattern I’ve just done a Jazz with a paulownia body aswell, I didn’t grain fill it as such I just used thinned down poly and before it was dry I sanded it and it makes a slurry that you wipe off and it seals the grain (a tip given by andyjr1515) what finish you thinking of doing?.....
  22. I might be wrong I’m sure someone will correct me if I am but as I understand it the higher the resistance means more treble so they recommend 500k pots for humbuckers as they aren’t as trebly (I think that’s a word) as single coil which sound better with 250k pots As fat as the finish goes @Andyjr1515 or @Jabba_the_gut are the ones to speak to they can probably advise you a lot better than I could Goid luck with the build and post your progress!!....
  23. Yeah that’s what I thought to start off with but I dont know if it just looks like grain filled ash the other contenders are: Santos Rosewood Spanish Olive Red Ebony Or Classic Wenge too many choices!!!!
