  1. Just came across this don’t know if it’s of any help?? Issues with the Amplifier An amplifier, especially an older one, can also cause crackling sounds. Transistors and capacitors can wear out over time, the sockets that hold them can corrode and come loose, and vibrations from loud bass music can shake the amplifier.
  2. No I used Andyjr1515 tru oil slurry technique then put about 5 coats on top then flattened it and polished it
  3. Thanks @Marc S I just thinned down some hard glaze and wiped it on and I changed the hardware to black It seemed no softer than basswood but it is a lot lighter For the price he’s selling them from you can’t go wrong really!!
  4. @Marc S my Jazz build was a £70 kit from eBay with a paulownia body (I think the sellers name is twin-cam and he sells bodies on their own for about £30 ish + p&p) @Geek99 your right they don’t drill the ground hole for the bridge
  5. I’d give it go then if you’ve got any spare timber??
  6. The difference is that the cellulose has been through a nitration process which makes nitrocellulose (incidentally nitrocellulose is one of the key elements of gun powder) I’m not entirely sure what difference that makes to the finish but I always use cellulose car paint as I seem to be able to get a better finish and it doesn’t seem to fade as much I’m not to sure if you would be able to do a trans finish with cellulose tho (but I’ve never tried??)
  7. Sounds like a nice project can’t wait to see some pics.......
  8. I use the Trend fast track sharpener when I’m re honing my chisels (or my Tourek sharpener when I take a chunk out of the edge) then a jap wetsone to polish the edge by eye but then I always put a micro bevel on them too!!... My Marples lose their edge quickly but my Ashley Iles chisel keep their edge for a long time even after I use them on the likes of Oak and Wych Elm!!
  9. Stunning bass!!! I bet you can’t wait to get your hands on it!!!
  10. No that body is from a basswood p bass kit that I’m doing (that’s just the red undercoat) I’m just waiting for the pickups so I can rout out the new cavities then I’ll topcoat it with Pearlescent Diablo Red The Pine bodies are going to be for my next couple of Warwick inspired builds I’m planning on doing a Streamer style and a Dolphin style.....
  11. Also because I’m going to coil tap them I will be able to mellow the sound aswell win/win!!....
  12. Also because I’m going to coil tap them I will be able to mellow the sound aswell win/win!!....
  13. I thought that would give the best of both worlds roughly stingray and original P bass positions....
  14. I’m waiting for pickups for this one so I’m probably going to start cutting the body for the next one (it’s going to be a Warwick Streamer inspired build with bolt on neck) (I’m getting ready to duck and cover!!) But I don’t buy into the whole tonewood thing audibly the difference is negligible and what you can and can’t use to build a guitar at the end of the day Warwick and Fender used pine (Carolena) for bodies and more companies are making bodies of pine and Brian Mays guitar was made from a Oak fireplace
  15. Knot a problem I’ll need to contact my lawyer Douglas fir the royalty contract, it’s quite a standard contract but I’ll get him to spruce it up a bit for you
  16. Scrap that last bit I’ve done some research and it’s not really that unconventional, I’m going to make the body out of Pine which I know will get lots of disapproving comments but hey ho it’s worth a go!!
  17. It’s all a bit of fun anyway I’m not making £3k guitars or anything But my next planned build might be considered a bit unconventional but I won’t spoil the surprise just yet not that it’s really exciting
  18. I think this one is lovely!! I would love to see how it would look without the pickguard tho?......
  19. I know that I have some odd ideas but not even I would cover it in suede Im not really interested in doing replicas, saying that I want to do a Adam Clayton style Streamer but it will be in the style of not a exact copy As this build isnt an expensive one I thought let’s try something a bit different The idea of a FF appeal to me as my builds go wherever the wind takes me but I’m sure the pure blood fender owners think it’s a travesty
  20. I’ve decided to go for this configuration coil tapped with push/pull pots......
  21. How about something like this?? I think that this would make a nice finish and show off your grain aswell......
