  1. You could consider a squier Jazz or Precision I think the best thing you could do is go and play some different types and see which feel most comfortable
  2. Panga panga is in the same family as Wenge it’s usually used as a substitute for ebony
  3. Nice jig!! Have you made it so you can do different radii?
  4. That’s great news I think we need some pics tho i was just looking on eBay and came across a Marshall B30 Bass state amp for £79 collection only (Atherstone) I don’t know if this is any good
  5. I’ve altered the position for the neck and highlighted where the neck pocket will be I think this looks better Im still thinking that the end of the fretboard needs to be slightly less of an angle so it follows the lines of the body better
  6. I’m just thinking that it’s slightly different but I would want to recess the control plate so it’s flush with the body but I spose I can just screw it on top to start with and decide once I’ve painted it whether or not to put the pickguard on
  7. I’ve seen a few pics of 51/55 p basses without a pickguard and I think it looks quite good I don’t know how it will look red with walnut-ish neck and chrome control plate whether it will look a bit bland?
  8. That’s the template done for filling in the cavities Now just to transfer it on to some timber and get it glued up, sanded and filled then I can re-rout the pickup and control plate cavities get it all sanded lovely and smooth then think about spraying the body Ive decided on a Pearlescent Diablo Red finish, I’ve ordered a Cream pickguard blank (well polypropylene sheet virtually the same thing and a damn site cheaper) so as soon as that turns up I’ll cut the pickguard and start trying to get it together Then on to the Jazz Bass!!!!!
  9. Lovely looking bass!! Once again great work Andy!!
  10. I’m swaying more towards thru neck now because I really like the contoured look where the neck meets the body But your right the neck pocket does need to be made longer and move down as it’s a bit too bottom heavy at the mo
  11. Thanks I’m always open to advice that’s kinda what I was trying to do, the extra lines that you can see on the top and bottom edges is where I’m going to sand down the veneer more so it shows the contrast of the light and dark woods No doubt it will probably change a bit more when I come to actually cutting and contouring the body but I think it’s a good starting point I’ve had an idea but I’m not sure if it will work/look ok? but because I’m going to do a bolt on neck, on the back where the neck comes out of the pocket make the neck thicker there so I can contour it to the depth and shape of the body so it will kinda look like a neck thru or just do away with the bolt on and just do a neck thru which may/will probably be easier in the end?
  12. Looking at the plan again I wasn’t completely happy with it so here’s the updated version
  13. This is going to be a long build as I can get the bits as and when I can afford them hopefully I should get it done by this time next year Slight change of plan I’m going to do individual saddles instead of tunomatic bridge (as I can’t find a 5 string version anywhere) so I’m going to need some advice when I get to that stage Ive got two other kit builds to finish first then I can focus properly on this one
  14. I’ve finished my plans for my first scratch build it’s kinda based on a Warwick Dolphin (it’s not fretless I just didn’t put the frets on) The plan is: Ash body with a walnut burr veneered top Bolt on Walnut neck with Ebony fretboard and matching walnut burr headstock (headstock shape will probably change) 5 string 34” scale 2 Jazz bass pickups (or maybe MM haven’t fully decided yet) Gold hardware and fret wire Thru body stringing (sorry Jabba_the_gut but I really like the way you’ve done your thru body stringing with the tun-o-matic bridge so I’ve borrowed the idea) All it leaves now is to go rob a bank to pay for it then I’ll be able to get started
  15. Here’s my White basses they are no way near as nice as all of the basses posted on here but I like them This is my unbranded P Bass that started off life pink so I refinished it And this is my custom bass that is roughly based on a Corvette but I’ve dubbed it the Allegro (after the Austin Allegro) it started off as a Black Ibanez GSR205 which I thought I’d modify
  16. Have you considered a second hand Washburn Taurus T14 they are in your price range and are p j config
  17. I bet he doesn’t get this kind of abuse on ‘the fretboard’
  18. Be careful that might be considered as sneery so he won’t answer it
  19. If you are going to be one man on a mission to rid the world of fakes then surely that is a legitimate question? How are you qualified to call out fakes??
  20. I think you’ve been asked this question but have you been a victim of buying a fake? If not why is it sooo important to you? Also what training course did you take to become an expert on spotting fakes? Or do you just call it on based your own opinion?
  21. I think Prowla has just been appointed as chief investigator
  22. I’m thinking of listing this as genuine Fender do you reckon I’ll get away with it??? I think I’d better get the logo police to make a ruling on it
  23. I always thought it was a ‘knot hole’ but potato/potatoe
  24. Is that like selling a non-fender guitar with a fender logo separate ha ha sorry I’m just being facetious
  25. My apologies my post was a bit harsh but Fiat does not own Ferrari, Fiat has a controlling stake in Ferrari it does not own the company outright, the point I was making is the logo for squier says “by fender” on it I have never seen a Ferrari logo with “by Fiat” on it So that is a completely different scenario
