1. That would be cool! If you’ve got a colour laser printer you could do it quite easily and cheaply
2. If you can get the extra clear sellotape because I used a really cheap one and it came out a bit cloudy But these were just tester if going to do them again
3. The purple and glitter is too much for my taste I would definitely prefer his Warwick sig base instead
4. Yeah it’s really simple you just print out you logo on normal printer paper stick sellotape over it then I use the handle of a pair of scissors and rub the logo to make sure all the ink sticks then cut it out and put it in water for about 5-10mins then you carefully rub the paper off and it just leaves the ink on the sellotape then you just stick it on and when it dries the glue reactivates and then it stays The logo in the picture is put on bare wood and has been on there for about 6months without any problems if you want you can lacquer over the top of it as well and it doesn’t crinkle or anything There’s a few videos on YouTube that explain it better than I probably have
5. Is that your WTF face??
6. So you didn’t fancy going down the laser printer and sellotape method then? They don’t come out too bad
7. Sometimes people go too far with the relicing but you’ve got it just right it looks great!!
8. Sorry what I meant to say was compared to other bands around at the time they weren’t up the same standard with their playing if you did a top 20 bassist in the 70’s Sid Vicious would be nowhere to be seen I agree that NMTB was a game changing album because it challenged “The Man” and people’s attitudes but musically is wasn’t exactly groundbreaking IMO
9. Sorry I was having a blonde moment I thought Bigwan meant doing more like an overlay (7-10mm thick veneer) then edge binding it rather than just filling the cavities then veneering the top Brain is now engaged!?!
10. At the moment I’m trying to get enough money behind me to do a luthiers course because that’s what I really want to be doing but I thought I’d have a bit of fun with the kit builds Yeah this kits off eBay got it for a steal £40 it was listed under “Base guitar kit” so not many people looked at it the neck is straight I will need to sort the frets on it buts it’s all a learning experience but at the end of the day you get what you pay for and you can always upgrade the hardware over time I’ve got a Jazz bass kit that I got off eBay that I’m going to do next it only cost me £70 and the body is better (it’s really light) and the neck is nice a straight and surprisingly the frets are ok on it when I checked it with my rocker and it looks like only 2 need filing a bit If you want a top quality bass then kits aren’t for you but if you just want a bit of fun making your own bass then kits are great Once I’ve got my workshop back up and running then I will do a scratch build of my own design
11. I was considering that but I was thinking how it was going to look with the neck pocket because I would have to pack the neck up the same thickness as the top veneer but would that make the back look a bit odd? But I’m a carpenter/furniture maker by trade so making a good job of filling the cavities won’t be a problem because it’s going to have a painted finish anyway if I was going to leave it natural that would be a different story Wheres the fun in just buying a ready made body!?!
12. Could you really consider the sex pistols as “greatest” their career only lasted 3 years apart from a short lived reunion in the mid 90’s but the sex pistols wouldn’t ever be about if wasn’t for the likes of the Small Faces, the Who and I know they aren’t British but the New York Dolls and Iggy and the Stoogies who they heavy took influences from Don’t get me wrong I really like the sex pistols I grew up listening to punk but in reality they could barely play their instruments
13. I always found Microsoft Publisher a lot easier to use than photoshop and it’s a lot easier to layer images and add text etc if you’ve got that program maybe give it a go instead?
14. Thanks for the advice I’ll give it a try, How do you finger it do you do two then three then three then three then back to two? because I’ve seen it done so many different ways that it gets a bit confusing?
15. Looking very nice!!! I’m doing a P bass build at the mo as well but I’m doing mine ‘51 style with split coils in instead of single, I hope mine comes out looking as good as yours!?!
16. Hi Grangur Yeah I’ll give that a go and see how I get on
17. In your opinion is the subscription charge worth it as I’ve been considering signing up?
18. Hi B’chatters Im looking to improve my playing so I’m looking for a tutor around the north wales area I’m based in Denbigh and I’m more than happy to travel up to about 25miles Please message me if you can help
19. Do you mean the ‘51 style? that’s the one I’m swaying more towards It will look a bit like this one when I’m finished but it won’t have a plain white pickguard on it, a different shaped headstock and I might change the dots for MOP blocks instead I haven’t quite decided yet
20. I sold I think it was a Marshall JMP super bass amp head I was told it was a late 60’s/early 70’s model and it had a 4 x 12” Trace Elliot cab with it for £150 when I was about 17 which I deeply regret proper dumbass move on my part It looked like this one but in slightly worse condition
21. Hi i going to do my first kit build, I bought a standard P bass kit but I’m probably going to modify it into either a Mike Dirt ‘51 style P bass or I might do it in a ‘72 P bass style as I’ve already got a standard P bass Either one I choose I’ve got to fill the pickup cavity to re-rout them to neaten them up as both pickguards won’t cover Because the body shapes are different I can just go and buy a ‘51 or ‘72 style pickguard I’m mocking up them at the moment to see if I can make a decision to which style I prefer The body is Basswood so I’ve got some on order to fill the cavities Which one does everyone prefer?
22. Ha ha i’ve got like that a few times where it’s not me it’s my hand that has a mind of its own
23.
Playing along to tracks is completely different than playing live with other musicians. Be carful not to over estimate your abilities. Blue
Sorry if you thought I meant that because I try to play along with backing track I think I’m ready to join a band I know my abilities and they are at the beginner level but my goal when I feel I’m ready is to try and join a band so I’m not really over estimating my abilities I’m quite a optimistic person so I prefer looking at it as “don’t under estimate your potential”
24.
Slow the lines down to a speed that you can play. Work out short sections. Gradually put the sections together and then speed up. In many paces you don't have to play all of the notes, use short cuts. It's called developing your own style. Everyone does it.
I don’t know if I’m gonna get crucified for admitting I use “Rocksmith” to learn but it is good in the aspect I can slow the track down and reduce the number of notes then slowly add more notes and up the speed only problem is that it measures the amount of correct notes you play so trying to use short cuts and developing my own style isn’t possible but I spose once I’ve learnt it I can start adding my own style in
25. That’s what I’m aiming for is to play in a band again or even feel confident to even jam with people but I stopped playing for almost 20yrs and only recently picked up the bass again so it’s feeling like a back at square 1 at the mo but saying that I still really enjoy trying to play so that’s spurring me on
