  1. It's my 'tism. My brain latches onto the strangest things (so other people tell me). The snare drum sound on Slipknot 'Iowa' pushed me so far into black metal, you wouldn't believe it haha. And yes, I get the irony of that, but I'm still a production snob. 😉 H
  2. I remember first hearing Rush on the very first 'Kerrang the Album' whenever that came out. My opinion hasn't changed despite multiple attempts to overlook it. I do admit that vocals and (for some reason) snare drum sound can be a make or break thing for me. 🤔
  3. I can take it or leave it to be honest. I've never liked Geddy Lee's vocals. I appreciate the musical competence, but it doesn't move me. It lacks that *magic* for me. I've probably broken several laws as both a drummer and bassist.
  4. I've totally failed to get a matching k212. Will try to sell it locally...not that there's any sort of market for it. I might just buy two 2x10 cabs. FFS. I hate this.
  5. Welcome back. I understand the pain...i quit bass for drums, then didn't play again for 12-14 years. My hands are messed up from judo/jiu Jitsu but it's ok too. Things will come back to you quickly!
  6. Aberdeen lol. I'm at the far end of North Wales. You might win. My dad has horror stories about being stationed near Aberdeen with the RAF 😂
  7. Online it will be PayPal goods and services, every time. I will happily pay the extra 3% fee. If I can turn up to someone's house with cash for an item and see it works etc, then that's fine. I also know where they live (for certain)....😉 My location tends to limit my ability to buy in person though. PayPal goods and services can be abused by the buyer too. I did my first purchase here with a member, and we used this method. We did a lot of back and forth conversation though.
  8. A little more energetic than my last post. This is a fantastic English band.
  9. As some here know, I'm a bit of a metalhead. This, however is fantastic. I discovered I liked Nina Simone when I first saw the Bridget Fonda film 'Assassin' a loooooong time ago. I figured I'd actually listen to an entire album rather than a 'best of' or soundtrack. The pink vinyl edition arrived this morning. 😉
  10. I used to have a red one of these, I believe? Nice bass. Had to sell it to pay rent....gutted.
  11. Noob question.... Is this worth the extra outlay over a Source Audio C4 or a Future Impact pedal for those of us that are dipping our toes into synth bass? 🤔
  12. The same tech that fitted it is on holiday for another month or so. I'm thinking about asking him to check it's all wired right. Quite frankly it sounds horrible.
  13. So far I've got these ideas in addition to my old pickups. -EMG Geezer Butler. Reviews say it's very high mids heavy. - DiMarzio DP122 . I'd rather not spend more money on it though.
  14. Niche question here. I have a Westone Thunder 1A, which needed a new preamp; the old one tried to commit arson. My guitar guy recommended an Aguilar OBP-3, which he fitted. The main issue is that the bass now sounds so trebly on the upper two stings that it is almost unusable. It's harsh and nasal no matter what I do. I think the issue is the pickups; there's no scope for height adjustment on the stock P Pickups either. To be fair, the issue sounds similar passive mode. I'm looking at a pickup replacement at this point, I assume. Any advice on reasonably priced replacement (P style)? I have an old EMG set hanging around, as well as an old passive Doomster P pickup. I'll likely have my luthier fit it; the obp3 electronic are terrifying. Cheers
  15. Some of us live in the arse end of nowhere and have no choice but to use God awful couriers.
  16. I have bought from Rich Tone in the past, but now I see that most bass amps/cabs are 'collection only'. Frustrating.
  17. I like the look of several of the NAMM Sire previews. I might pick up a Z3 this year. I like the look, and don't care if it sounds like a Stingray tbh. I'm pretty shallow lol.
  18. I'm looking at buying a pair of these cabs. How do they handle low B and fuzz? I'd really like 2x12 cabs, but space and weight are a huge factor currently. Cheers.
  19. To be fair, my V5 (a 24 fret version in mint green, with copper coloured pick guard) has pushed all my other basses into their cases too. I never even liked the jazz bass sound until I first played one; I'm normally a 5 string Ibanez guy.
  20. Thread necromancy here... Any experience with the 2x12 cabinet? I've got my eye on one to go with my Tech 21 VT Bass head; it's an SVT sounding amp. My current cab is a bit wooly sounding.
  21. I can see this being a great concert -in theory - but I don't think we will be seeing a full set of Ozzy and Bill with Sabbath. Too many guest vocalists and drummers in the roster for that to be likely. It will be stupidly expensive for a single day event. I saw Sabbath with Bill in 2004 or 2005, and rally that's good enough for me. Pantera died with Dime. Alice in Chains died with Layne (the missus argues against this lol). I don't see any way that I go to this. I'd have to buy 3 tickets and book time off work, find accommodation etc. Nope.
  22. I'm about to meet up with some people (none of whom have played with others in a while either), and I am obviously worried about this part of it. My last band was me on drums, my brother on guitar, a friend playing bass really badly, and a revolving door if vocalists. My brother and I were on the same page 99% of the time. I don't like change and it's hugely anxiety provoking. We only stopped playing because of things beyond my control. Sometimes just withdrawal from something is absolutely the right thing to do though.
  23. 😂 I think that's @Count Bassy's problem.
