Same with this I always lightly sand the gloss. Sorry,I meant the overall look, it was too high gloss - whereas this bass has had chance with age to loose that super sheen - will have a look at the Allen pup. In my P51 I got an overwound Fralin pup and that’s deep and round

Got to agree. I had the PB70 FSR the neck was the best but it was too glossy and the pups weren’t that great - but this is just right

Thanks Jonsey it’s hard to be objectI’ve when your in the honeymoon phase but I played it so much yesterday my fingers hurt, which is surprising. The neck is near perfect and the sound is crisp and deep. It might be the best P I’ve had . My last CIJ was super, but this tops it. Probably because I prefer the natural look. It’s had time for the gloss to gas off a little so it’s not super shiny - still sanded the neck a touch. Will at Bass Bros has done a great string set up and had some low tension La Bellas, so spot on for me.

Nice pair. I’ve shielded the pots cavity. Air sprayed the slightly clicks tone pot - all sorted been playing it for a couple of hours and love it

Nice tort like it

yeah would love a rosewood board - my brother-in-law has a PB70 ash with a rosewood board from 78 and he wont sell it! he doesnt play in a band - he bought it in83 - BUT THATS NO EXCUSE - he lent it to me for some recording and I fell in love then he took it back

feels like a keeper but you never know

NBD CIJ PB70 99 reissue - a beaut and super light. Love CIJ basses such quality builds, had a PB62 reissue and loved it but sold to fund custom build. I been after a natural PB70 but hardly see them, I just love a natural bass. I had the MIM FSR PB70 from think 2018 and the neck was superb but didn’t like the pups - should’ve changed them as regretted selling it. This might give my custom build a run for its money, got gig next week might take it out. Free set from Bass Bros too - recommend them

Rehearsed with it tonight. Was good - be useful back up
-
I did sell it- that was very thumpy and has a wider neck - might get a long scale one one day. I’ve always liked Mustangs though
-
Just got one of the new FSR Squier Mustangs as I miss having a short scale. Forgot how small the necks were prefer chunkier Vintera. But at this price point set up is great out of the box. Very low action, intonation 90% there already. It’s fun and colours look great. Now waiting on the postie with GHS flats to get some thumpy tones

Thomann have them in stock. But I’ve just order GHS Light flats less money than la Bella but 32” seen good reviews so thought I’d try those -

you'll like la bellas then imo they have more tension, i really love the TIs were my go to for years but last 2 basses used la bellas great tone better than TI, less clack but i'd prefer a lower tension like TIs as i play really soft and like the action low as poss but tone is all for me - so la bellas win this round
-
For me it's a frame of reference to bass sounds on records from the 70s that I like, like David Hood's Muscle Shoals work, flatwounds, quite muddy sounding, or Superfly bassline by Joseph Scott (Jazz bass with flats) - I dont really listen to a lot of 50s stuff apart from Jazz but that's mainly double bass, though i'd like to get more into Monk Montgomery's electric bass stuff. It's based on 54/6 as I guess that's when the contour came in on the body
-
I did ask for 4 saddle but then went old school and it’s intonated ok - I don’t go up the dusty end much - maybe the odd chord. That said I wanted the truss rod at the top, so I could get at it - so not too traditional
-
I’d been thinking about it for too long so had to try it. Got an idea for another down the line

Had this made by James Mitchell in Electric Relic Co in Bath Lot of thought went into what i wanted - aftermarket natural 54 contour body in alder not ash, chunky neck no fake logo, hand wound Fralin pickup, cloth wiring, 0.10 orange drop capacitor, old bridge, low tension La Bella flats and then let James do his thing - had to tweak it a bit since getting it and had one proper rehearsal but love the thing already - took 8 weeks from order to delivery approx and sold 2 basses to pay for it - inc one PB that I loved - but I'm happy - it's fairly lightweight and sounds like the 70s - I doubt i'd have the money if this was original - it wasn't cheap but it's a lovely thing
