  1. Yeah, educating guitarists on the value of low stage volume should be real easy. Blue
  2. I'm 64 and been playing and gigging since I was 12 years old. The whole experience is still a blast for me, 4 hour bar gigs, festivals, fairs, practicing and rehearsals. I don't think age matters unless your goal is to be a pop star. What matters is, Is it realistic for you Do you have the time Are you passionate about it. You get out of it what your willing to put into it. Blue
  3. I think the whole concept of "locking in" is more widley understood and appreciated more by bass players than drummers. I can become very aggravated and sarcastic " I'm curious, have you ever even heard the term locking in?" My feeling is; "You better look at me and pay attention when I'm trying to lock in" Blue
  4. I love my slab P. It's been dropped a dozen times. It's indestructible Blue
  5. I get where your coming from. I'm " old school'" and remember the days when if you were really good and would take risks anything could happen. I believe those days have been gone for decades. We now live in the time of the bedroom virtuosos. Many talented brilliant musicians don't want to gig or couldn't even be bothered with the dated concept of being in a band. Blue
  6. You might want to watch " Hired Gun " on Netflix. Blue
  7. Yup, that's a story I can believe. Both are jazz guys at heart. Blue
  8. Just so you know I'm not sour on Doug, I always thought he was a better match for the Stones than Daryl. But I bet there was something about Doug or his reputation that The Stones people weren't comfortable with. I think if you say or do the wrong thing at the wrong time to the wrong person and the big opportunity doors close on you. Am I right? Blue
  9. No hit song writing credits means you never get a taste of the big money. Blue
  10. Yeah, I've heard different versions of the Stones gig. My thoughts, he never really got the offer. Who turns down a gig with the biggest money making machine in rock & roll ? Blue
  11. I've seen Doug in really small clubs with Vernon. And I really like the guy. I think he's really cool. However, I don't think he's had an easy career. A few good breaks here and there but not much more. Educate me if I'm wrong. Has he written any hit songs? Blue
  12. Monitoring would be key. For me I can hear my bass through the monitors during sound check. But after the first set when the guitarists have turned up to 11, forget it. Blue
  13. Does it depend on the type and level of gigs a guy is playing? Does it make sense to go smpless for small Pub gigs? Does it depend on the level of the technology, meaning for going ampless means it has to be expensive and high end. Blue
  14. Even at the local level it's important. Ever bring a guy into a band and you notice after the 1st couple of gigs he only packs up his own gear and leaves. Not cool. Off topic: Pick of me in 1969 playing my Gibson EB-3. Nobody can tell me I'm not "hood" 😂 Blue
  15. I get where Alice is coming from when he says; "I don't have time for 2nd string guys" Blue
  16. 2 points, I know Billy's current drummer and I understand Billy is very generous to his sidemen. I think breaking into the upper segments of the hired gun arena back in the 70s was different. The criteria to get in was different. Today many hired guns are recruited from schools like Berklee and Juliard. I think Jeff Beck found Tal at Juliard. Blue
  17. Yeah, I was a good boy. Drugs were one part of the 60s I stayed away from. I didn't want anything to spoil all the fun. Blue
  18. I don't remember the gig, I know the pic was taken in 1969. I don't remember what happened to the bass. I might have traded it for a 1957 pre CBS Fender P. Blue
  19. My Gibson EB-3 from 1969. Great bass I don't remember the gig or what happened to it. Wow, I had a lot of hair in 69.😁 Blue
  20. Did you like it or get anything out of it? I think for anyone who has ever thought about persuing or is persuing performance as a career. I did. I actually know the guy that replaced Liberty Devito pretty well. Blue
  21. McCartney, whether we like it or not is in a league of his own Still kicking butt at 75. Blue
  22. Maybe my Gibson Gold To LP Bass. It looks so cool, but the neck is too chunky. I don't have the heart to sell it, even though I could use the 2 grand. Blue
  23. I've played in both cover (but not the type vof cover bands you guys reference) and originals bands. I would play in an originals band again if there was a local originals scene, and support and you could make money. I would also play in an originals band at the national touring headliner ( 250 seat venues) level. But at the local 1 gig every 3 months level, no way. Blue
  24. I think we're talking about originals bands at the local level. Same goal? According to some originals bands they write songs for their own enjoyment not to entertain an audience. Blue
