  1. I was lucky enough to have a day job for 35 years. Now I'm lucky enough to be retired. The originals scene in Milwaukee is ok as long as you don't want to gig or get paid. Blue
  2. Originals can be very satisfying. So can gigging and money. Blue
  3. Some of you guys really broad stroke cover bands. We would never play Living On A Prayer or Don't Stop Believing. Blues Rock covers, you can play anyway you like we have fun with them. We also have 2 CDs of originals. We're able to book like a main stream cover band. And we don't do any Katy Perry, the closest we cone to that would be Fleetwood Mac"s "Oh Well" Blue
  4. Not that it matters, but I didn't here about Marcus until years after Jaco. Weather Report was pretty big. Blue
  5. Sorry, I have a difference of opinion. "No Jaco, no Marcus." Without Jaco I doubt guys like Markus would have risen to prominence. I'm not sure what "active on the scene " means. Blue
  6. What is the difference between a poor cover and a poor original? I say, not much, they're both bad. Blue
  7. Here's one of mine Fender MIJ crafted in 2000. It's been dropped a million times but it's still perfect. Blue Blue
  8. Whether we like Jaco or not. Most of us don't have a fraction of his vision, ability or skill. Blue
  9. I'm not a huge Jaco fan. However, I'd have to say Jaco's style of bass playing is currently innovative. Blue
  10. For me, I'm sticking with; "Umm yes" Blue
  11. If you don't like Jaco or to young to understand his place in history that's fine However your going to have a hard time convincing me his legacy isn't well deserved. It doesn't really matter who or what we like or dislike. Blue
  12. I've always supported good original material. Unfortunately in my neck of the woods a lot of the original stuff I've heard is marginal self indulgence. I'm not going to pit originals against covers. You can't pit an orange against an apple. Blue
  13. It's just the way it works. For example, no Sly& The Family Stone, then no EW&F, no Ohio Players, No Graham Central Station. Blue
  14. There are some that think anyone can book. Look for a thread soon. Blue
  15. That's fine if there's at least 50 other people in the room that share your position. Blue
  16. Bravo to all you bass players out there booking gigs. It's not easy. Blue
  17. IMO, problem the worse comparison I've ever seen on BC. Daryl
  18. But he was around and I'm sticking with ; "No Jaco, no Marcus" Blue
  19. Fair enough. But people are going to be talking about Jaco forever. Blue
  20. If there was no Jaco there would be no Marcus Miller. Blue
  21. I'm very boring and old, but we have an outstanding young lady fronting the band that our audience loves. I've also seen these over 60 guys living in the past trying to pull off questionable banter that might have come off as witty and cool when they were young and pretty back in 1972, but now seems weird and dated. Keep in mind I'm talking bar band level. Very sad actually. Blue
  22. I think that sober fashion might work well at that level. However, I also think what some audiences want has changed since the days of King Crimson or Fairport Convention. Blue
  23. At the bar band level, I would never join a band that doesn't have a talented front person that can connect with and engage a crowd. It's a skill and talent that very few have at the bar band level. I don't know if you see it in your pubs, where you'll have 4 old guys up there on stage and not an ounce of personalty between them. Very boring, not fun to watch. Blue
  24. Great comments and talking points. Here's something for some to think about. Are you in a band where there's a space to bring or put something on the table? If not, you might want to think about looking for a table with a space for you. Blue
