  1. Big difference between not liking and not understanding historical or musical value. I'm not a Jaco fan. I don't even listen to him. But I sure as hell understand and love what he did for the electric bass.. It's a big picture thing for me, it's never about what I like or don't like. Blue
  2. Wow, age has so much to do with influences. There are bands mentioned from the 60s through the early 2000s. Blue
  3. Well Yeastie said it was Rush that got him playing bass. And it was Paul McCartney that got me started on playing bass. There's not too much of a impact higher than the decision to start playing an instrument.. Blue
  4. In terms of my playing I've been influenced by a lot of bass players. But it all started with Paul McCartney for me. Them too for that matter. Blue
  5. On point, I think this is a good example of what the OP is getting at. Blue
  6. First Gig, 1966, grade school talent show. Bass, guitar, ouano and drums. We played 2 songs, Cleo's Back & Function At The Junction I remember having a blast. Blue
  7. Massive effect and impact may or may not be the same. However you make a good point to a degree. I remember being under the age if 4 sitting in my high chair in our kitchen below the age of 4. My Mom would always have the local Black Music radio station on. I clearly remember enjoying hearing Ray Charles singing "Hit The Road Jack". I'm still awarding The Beatles as my band. Blue
  8. Certainly not the type of effect for impact I was talking about. And I don't see a "band" anywhere in the video. All I see is a child with some sort of apptitude/abilty for hearing and recognizing chords. Blue
  9. I do think age has an impact on us. Not many have stated how old they were when " their band" touched their souls. For example someone mentioned Nirvana. I was certainly around when they came out. But I was an adult, married with 2 young children. No band was going to really touch my soul at that point in my life. I was 10 when The Beatles became "my band". Every move they made seemed relevant to me. Blue
  10. I don't think any band would have had any inpact on me as a 4 year old. Blue
  11. And Meet The Beatles and Something New we're probably my onlyy Beatles records. But I was never necessarily a Beatles records fanatic. I was and still am a Beatles fanatic. Huge difference Blue
  12. The thing about The Beatles, you don't have to listen to them or like them. They're still going to be The Beatles. Blue
  13. Usually it's the band that really hit you when you became of age. Coming of age in 1964 can sort of speak for itself. However you had to have some help. At age 10 my Dad purchased The Beatles Meet The Beatles and Something New. He also bought Manfred Man's album Do Wah Diddy for me. Some people come from homes where art in general and music were non-existent. I've heard people my age say, "I don't really listen to much music". To me that's like saying " I really don't breathe much' It's certainly nothing to brag about. Blue
  14. Consistency, you can't have 2 good gigs out of 4. Blue
  15. One of the few things being born in 1953 was good for. Being 10 years old in 63 was perfect timing. Before The Beatles most of my time was spent trying to figure out how to get more candy. Blue
  16. There will always be Jaco threads. I wonder why? Blue
  17. For me Dino from The Rascals (3 Italian & 1 Irish guy) was the first guy to take the drums to the next level for pop music. Very progressive for 1966. Blue
  18. Agreed, Did I forget to mention they also looked great in suits? Blue
  19. I never gave any thought to John's singing. I was listening to "The Beatles" It was all Fab. Blue
  20. Yeah it's weird. I get a cheap $12.00 haircut once a month. I found out from a friend who is in the business, even for a 12 buck cut they get pissed if you don't tip at least $5.00. But I get it, their hourley wage is a complete joke. Blue
  21. Cool as I mentioned our NYE gig hours are great, 2:00-7:00. I get home by 8:30. Blue
  22. Dave, on a good night tips can mean an extra $25.00 bucks per man. Blue
