Definitely And I knew allot more about playing bass before I knew anything about working a traditional job. Daryl

Great shot! Daryl

I'm again the opposite, I love hearing stories from musicians. I have no interest in traditional employment. Nothing against it. I did it for 35 years and couldn't wait to retire so I would have more time for gigging. Even at the local level I learned early on to avoid sub pare bands and opportunities that can spoil the band experience . Daryl

I'm the opposite. Even when I was still working I'd never tell people I was a Workers Compensation Analyst. I would always say I'm the bass player for Maple Road. Daryl

I say she gets a A for effort. I think the fan is a pretty good idea for enhancing her stage presence. Daryl

My band played a double bill show with them last summer. She came up to me and complimented me on our set . She was wearing a long floor length dress ,big floppy hat and sun glasses. She doesn't get down to the shorts and stuff until she goes on stage . She puts a large fan in front of herself to blow her hair around. Daryl

He reminds me of how I struggle with backing vocals. Daryl

Interesting responses. Nobody likes white shorts anymore ? Lol Daryl

I caught there was a problem there too. Daryl

Even though I'm in a great band I occasionally struggle with " is the grass greener on the other side" syndrome. Especially when I see the some of the top teir local cover bands playing the high end stages with high end production, great time slots and higher pay. I'll try to attach a link to the band I wanted yo audition for. But I'm always told by my close friends " Daryl, You already in the best band for you". And after I do my research on these bands I find that it's not all peaches and cream. First of all after they pay for sound and lights the individual members are making no more money than me. All their gigs are not high end and they don't always have large crowds. At the end of the day if our 2024 summer schedule continues to fill up like it did this week I'll probably feel like a pro anyway. Daryl

That's a great question. I don't know if I've ever wanted to be a pro bass player, maybe. I think for me, my thing was wanting to be famous. I think I'd be good at that. Lol Daryl

Dave, In my old age I'm getting more and more picky about stage quality and size. Daryl
-
Looks like a great stage. Daryl

Home by 8:00. Good crowd, nice looking room and generous tippers. I wasn't crazy about my playing. Daryl

We have an acoustic gig at The Zeigler Winery Saturday afternoon. An hour 1 way. It's a very nice room. Daryl
-
Dave, I say never engage a drunk in a conversation without an exit plan. Lol Daryl
-
I hope everything goes well next Thursday. Daryl
-
Me too Dave. I engage and applaud. And if they're young kids like the jazz quartet I saw a few weeks ago, I'll talk to them all individually and congratulate them. Daryl
-
Dave, Some are definitely complete background music gigs. The Harley .Motor Restaurant gigs are like that. However we occasionally get their attention and the crowd will engage us after a few pints. Daryl
-
I spoke with a guy over here that said he played some sort of blues/folk festival in Skegness. For me, I'm ok with 1 quality gig a week maybe 2 in the summer. Daryl
-
I should consider myself lucky. We never seem to travel more than 40 minutes one way. Now , we do have a rare hour commute Saturday, however I'll be sitting in the van sleeping. Does that count ? Lol Daryl

There's a few variables involved. I'd be the first to admit some venues are better at presenting afternoon family friendly entertainment than others. And like you said all genres are not a fit for outside family friendly afternoon gigs. There are certain good main stage great production provided gigs that we don't fit. By the same token, the areas top rock cover bands are not going to get the afternoon Brewerys & Winery's. Does that make any sense ? Daryl

It took me a long time to take minor upsets like this like a small grain of salt. It goes with the territory. Daryl

A little off topic; I'm hoping some of you guys get these type of messages from your Band leaders. I just got this 5 minutes ago . " Hey everyone, Wed. 7/3 was booked with someone else, so no Maple Road gig, but Barry is working on something else for a different date. Also, Sat. 7/27@ Majestic Beer Garden needs to be rescheduled due to a conflict at the park, so do either Fri 6/21 or Fri 8/30 work for everyone to re-book?" I used to get upset over this kind of stuff. Now, I finally get it. Stuff is going to happen. Don't " freak out" over it. Daryl
