  1. Nice gear. I rotate several GK heads with the old GK RBX cabs. The cabs are like carrying an air conditioner. Our guitarist went Kemper. He walks into gigs with guitar in one hand and the Kemper in his back pack.
  2. I haven't found any bass amps I'd consider light. I'm actually thinking about going the Kemper route with their stage floor model and go direct into the PA. Blue
  3. I'm 68 and even standing up performing for 3 hours is a challenge. No way could I work a 6 hour retail shift stocking and waiting on customers. Blue
  4. Thanks Blisters I'm running out of topics. I might post some thoughts on sound and lighting. Blue
  5. Unfortunately we booked all our summer and fall gigs before the gas prices went up.😒 Blue
  6. I think depending on gig money like me is dangerous. However, I'll make $500.00 bucks this weekend from two gigs. I apologize if I've come across like I'm completely dependent on gig money. I'm not. I have a pension, however gig money is a significant supplement. Here in the States allot of retired guys work part time retail jobs to supplement their pension. I could never make $500.00 from 6 hours of working in a store. Blue
  7. I thought all you guys do arena and stadium shows. 😀 Blue
  8. It's a little surreal loading my bass into my car at age 68 and you think back realizing you were doing the same thing on a Friday or Saturday night when I was 16. Thanks for sharing your story. Blue
  9. Enjoy that Cougar attention while you can. They are not interested in gents my age. Blue
  10. I wish I was in my late 40s.😀 Blue
  11. We played an acoustic gig last night. It was a private high school graduation party with an unappreciative crowd. The weather was great, the sound was great, we worked our butts off. They slipped every member an extra hundred bucks. I've always been an amature with a professional attitude. Blue
  12. I have two childhood musician friends that have survived and made a good living as professional musicians. The others I know that went the pro route have struggled and have had problematic lives. Blue
  13. The hassles are minor when your band mates are wonderful. I should say wonderful and smart. Blue
  14. Agreed, for those of us lucky enough to have reached pension age we have to respect are band mates that are still working and in a busier time of their lives. Blue
  15. Very astute comment Casapete. I think the serious musician will ask specific question about finances and the band members before joining. Ask who depends on the band for income and how many schedule conflicts did you have last year or how many gigs did you turn down because members couldn't play the gig. Blue
  16. Hi Guys, Not much going on with me. As you know I'm 68 and have been an amature type performer since 1965 I'm lucky in the sense that my whole summer is booked. That means I have gigs every weekend. Most are pretty decent gigs. Decent hours and respectable compensation. We landed another opening slot with Collective Soul next month. Just a couple of comments since I haven't posted in a while. I read allot of the " I Hate Gigging" thread. My take away was nobody actually hates gigging. Most hate certain aspects of gigging; 1. Bad gigs 2. Bad long hours 3. Bad band 4. Traveling 5. Low pay 6. Personality Issues We all have some degree of power to avoid the 6 bullet points above. While I gig allot my issue with gigging is a little different than most. I found myself in this position where I'm one of the few that needs the money. That in itself puts me in a bad spot. I would say I'm the only guy in my band who needs the money. The other member all have full time traditional careers. What do you think? What kind of questionable band circumstances are you dealing with and how you plan to change them. I guess at some point I'm going to simply say" I'm sick of it" that hasn't happened yet. Blue
  17. We played a 2 hour acoustic set at Sahale Ale Works. It was an outside gig, 6:00-8:00. 80° degrees. My kind of gig. Blue
  18. About 9 years ago I guess my moves on stage at a particular gig didn't come off as planned. I saw a video clip and what I thought was cool actually looked like I was humping an invisible bear.😀 Blue
  19. That's really cool. I wonder how it would work for bass. I wonder what the down side is. Blue
  20. Cool ? I guess you don't know about the invisible bear. Blue
  21. Beautiful venues and working with professionals makes it all worth while for me. There are places we played 2 years ago we wouldn't think of playing now. We turn down more gigs than we accept. Blue
  22. One of our guitarist has switched over and goes direct out into the sound with one of those modeling amps from Kemper ( they're not cheap). It's a floor unit. He walks into our gigs with his guitar in one hand , stand in the other and the Kemper is in his back pack. I'm exploring this type of option for myself. Blue
  23. The only thing I ever wanted out of this , was to be in a good band with consistent gigs that made money. I didn't get that until 10 years ago. I enjoy it and have no plans on stopping. I need the attention and the money. Blue
