Lol, Dave, we got paid , but I don't know how. They didn't make any money that night.

If were talking internal, I think the bands that don't have one member with any sense for business could be a problem. Daryl

No collective decisions with us. The BL and husband make the decisions. We really don't have professional management. The management we have is internal, the BLs husband. He does a lot of work. He does all the bookings, all the social media advertising, networking and pitching the band to new venues. He does all the logistics too, how to get to the venue, parking arrangements and shares all the dos and don'ts of the contract. We have our own sound and lights and he runs both. Also very particular about how things are set up. I bring my gear in but I won't bring it near the stage until I get the go ahead from him. We're paid by the BL before every show. I'm a lot older than these folks and to be honest my ideas and positions are probably very dated Daryl

I'm a big fan of extra on top of the fee. Lol I remember we played one night and there was a huge blizzard. As you can guess, attendance was weak. The owner blamed us and we never went back. The place closed, it's a daycare center now. Daryl

Many of us are weekend warriors, even so every band has some level of management. Do you have a manager, what does he/she do? If yes, is your management internal or external? Do you need management or do you think it's not necessary in your case. This is just a thread to talk about band management. What are your thoughts, anything to share? And I'm not talking about agents. Comments, positions? Daryl

At what age does a guy become an " old bloke"? Lol Daryl

The only emotion I let anyone see at a gig is the huge smile on my face. Daryl

Thanks, I'm 70 and gigging more than ever in my life. Even with our drummer issue, I have it pretty good. If you've got good gigs and good health you've got it made. DaryL

Our drummer picks and chooses what gigs he'll play. Not an ideal arrangement. However sacking him and finding a new drummer would be worse. Daryl

" Really well paying" That's my favorite type of gig. We have one coming up. A corporate Christmas Party. Requests can get dicey. I saw a member of a 60s hit making band ( 4 hits in our top ten) now in his 70s play a solo small bar gig. Great singer and musician but apparently pretty bitter about the music business. Someone requested Paul Simon's The Boxer. His response" sure, I'll play it, 20 bucks." Wow, that's bold. Daryl

Nice one! Daryl

Same to you Lozz, thanks. Daryl

Great gig, engaged crowd and the place was packed. No deps really helped. Above average compensation. Unfortunately not many decent pics. Daryl

once you've played a 5 string what's the point of 4?
Bluewine replied to DDR's topic in General Discussion
I've never played a 5. After 55 years playing 4s I could never make the transition. Daryl -
Love those Adidas. Daryl

Looks like a fun gig and energetic crowd. Nice. Daryl

Thanksgiving Eve is a big Gig night in the States. Maple Road will be performing at Rockfield Music & Media. We start at 7:00. And it's BYOB . Very intimate Victorian vibe. Daryl

We're having some difficult times with dep drummers. Daryl

Agreed, they should have offered a little money. Daryl

Our set list is also getting old. I don't really know if there's a plan for adding new songs. Daryl
-
Lol 😂 Yeah, it a cool gig on November 26th. And we'll have our own drummer. Too bad about the punk band. I thought the punk scene was really robust all over in your area? Winter is generally pretty slow for us. Daryl

No gigs for me until 11/26. Daryl

Standing room only. I need a gig like that. Daryl

I can't find a Band, What am I doing Wrong?
Bluewine replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
Have you defined what you want out of a band ? I'd be looking for good people to network with to help you find a match. Starting a new band is tough. 99% of start ups/ new bands probably never see their first gig. Daryl -
1. No 2. Yes I just wish we would have been better seeing that people paid to see us. Daryl
