  1. I've commented on several lackluster gigs, but last night we hit it out of the park. We played an outdoor festival with one other band , a really good rockabilly band opened for us, Amy & The Incorruptibles (check them out on YouTube). They played 5:30- 7:00 we clised, played 7:30-10:30. 1. Outstanding weather 2. Outstanding tent, stage, sound and ights 3. Professionally Organized 4. Nice crowd and our hard core fans were particularly nice 5. We had played a bar gig Thursday night too. There was a great band vibe and we were on fire from the first note till the last, with a legitimate encore. Our BL did a great job calling songs and we had plenty of our best material we didn't get to play. 6. Great pay, I was paid upfront as soon as I arrived on set. I like that. Really needed this one guys. We don't play again until July 8th at Summerfest " world's largest music fest. We have a 5:00-6:00 slot. Pic, my rig from last night. Blue
  2. Been there many times, we also play a lot of 70s harder rock. For us it's usually when we accept a corporate or wedding gig. We're not a wedding or functions band. It's a brutal experience, playing to a completely uninterested crowd. Take the money and run. Blue
  3. I think the multi-effects from Helix and Line 6 are great for recording. I'm still not hearing all the improvements in multi- effects devices for live performance for bass guitar. Maybe the improvements can't be heard, is it mostly funcktionality that has improved? I'm not hearing the " mojo" I hear with my analog pedals. Keep in mind, contrary to common belief, I don't hear so good anymore. I will say multi- effects devices for live performance for guitarists is fine. Just like I think , for a guitarist you can't beat tube amps. For bass, not really a deal killer. Blue
  4. I believe all my pedals are analog. The only programming I do is switching them from the Off position to On. Blue
  5. We played an indoor Biker event, 3:00-7:00 today. I was particularly impressed with our BL and lead guitarist. Hard to believe she wasn't around in the 60s or 70s. We did 2 new Savoy Brown songs. Hot as hell inside but a good gig with good pay. We raised our fee at the beginning of the year. We're back out this Thursday & Friday night, Festival gigs. Blue
  6. A guy from my gym just had shoulder surgery, also unsuccessful. Hope your shoulder gets better. Blue
  7. It would be a cool song for my band. We certainly have the drummer for it but the vocals would be a reach. The bass really isn't a huge element is it? This live version seems a bit slower than the original recording. Blue
  8. Very cool, couldn't be more in the pocket, very 70s very old school. My drummer in my high school band had the same style. Love it. Blue
  9. Listening to this Bowie clip, I love the production and his performance.
  10. It might be a producer or even other band members that decide it's a better option. Especially for bands that might have a weak drummer or weak bass player. You might say than get a better drummer or bass player. That might not be an option. Blue
  11. Loads of pro recordings where the bass lines are played on keys. In some cases it's the better option. Blue
  12. I'm all for real drummers in principle, but there are reasons why electronic drums might be a better recording option. Blue
  13. Depends , I guess. I've heard pro rock recordings where I would have sworn it was a real drummer, it wasn't it was programed electronic drums. Blue
  14. I play bass on all the tracks, but I had no say in song selection or production.Which is strange because they gave me production credit. Blue
  15. I'm not big on recording, we just finished the bands 3rd CD. I didn't have much to do with it. My point, I prefer electronic drums for recording. Blue
  16. Hi Les It might be rare, but I've heard from other guys here on BC that have seen guys that do it. It's BS, tear down is part of the gig. And IMO part of what your getting paid for. Blue
  17. I would say our US bar scene also has elements of dysfunction. Bar owners can be a strange lot. If it's a new venue for a band it's a good idea to be clear and direct with all your terms. Otherwise you never know what might happen. " My boss told me your fee was $400.00 not $500.00" Don't fall for that one, stick to your terms. Blue
  18. I've only seen where a band member left and the bands sound changed for the worse. Ever lose an outstanding drummer? Very hard to replace. Blue
  19. I get a little annoyed when a band member leaves right after a gig leaving an hour and a half of tear down to the rest of the band. Blue
  20. Agreed, It's suppose to be about fun. There's no reason to bring a negative vibe to a gig. Blue
  21. I've never quite understand the whole idea of auditioning for a bar or pub to book a gig. Usually it's where they want you to perform for free on a week night. We've been a known gigging band for over 12 years. A few months ago we were asked to audition for a club. We diplomatically declined. Blue
  22. While going to open mics in my area won't get you far as a resource for finding a band it might in your area. Are you looking for a gigging band? Blue
  23. If it's a band where I genuinely want the job I'll learn the 11 songs. I'd confirm what song they perform them in as well as any deviation from the original recording. Blue
