  1. I'm in contact with TOB and he has got all the info he needs from the FWS doc. As it happens, a link to the same FWS doc is exactly the help that NAMM provide on their show website plus a NAMM management contact name for those who need more.
  2. Just for the sake of clarity, CITES governs the movement of listed endangered species across borders and so applies whether stuff is for sale or not.
  3. Correct, although it appears that lots of stuff gets sold covertly and the organisers allegedly turn a blind eye to it.
  4. Meant to add that there's been some heavyweight lobbying by the global music industry to obtain an exemption from CITES for all musical instruments. This has been very effective and chances are that it would have been in place now if the last CITES meeting (scheduled for May in Malaysia IIRC) hadn't been cancelled due to a terrorist incident!
  5. Here is a link to an amazingly useful document published by the Fish and Wildlife Service in the US. Put together in a 'question and answer' format, it is easy to understand and addresses pretty much everything that individuals, companies and organisations need to know about moving rosewood and other CITES-listed materials between the UK/EU and the USA. Having seen the picture from the American perspective, you can export with a high degree of confidence that your goods will clear customs at the other side. It has also given me a far better general understanding of CITES than I have been able to derive from online research and repeated contact with APHA, who administer CITES in the UK. 6. 👍 Super job Andy! There are now 2 basses in the world made from the last tree felled by my old mate Merv, the 'Wharfedale wood-cutter'. The owd rascal would truly have been proud to know that. Pictured below: Merv aged 17, a couple of years in to his career as an axe-man (1948), and as I knew him in 2008. http:// http:// Edit: Sorry guys, forgot I was still signed in on the Gillett Guitars account! It's scrumpymike here - in case you hadn't guessed 😉
  7. Wendysday belongs in the middle of the week surely?! ("Stop calling me Shirley!" 🤐)
  8. HEADS-UP: Ex-demo sale!! As is our policy at Gillett Guitars, we are initially offering the following ex-demo instruments exclusively to Basschat forum members for a limited period! 9. I think fleabag will be the first to shoot that one down... I'll get me coat 😐 (scrumpymike with Gillett hat on)
  10. Thanks guys! The really exciting bit is that so far most players prefer the sound of the Rocklite instrument. Re cost, it's currently slightly more expensive than natural tone-wood. All credit to Andy for having the courage to specify his guitar in this hi-tech material! Fyi, we're just finishing a second Rocklite 6-string guitar for another member of this forum. Could this be the future for our (currently Indian Rosewood) Contour S bass? I'll give Andy his topic back now 😉 - any more questions to me via pm/phone please or follow our sponsored Gillett Guitars topic. scrumpymike aka Sales & Marketing Manager GILLETT GUITARS Tel. +44 (0)1823 272376/(0)7770 946135 … and now it’s a ‘perfect 10’ for Quality In BGM’s September 2018 review!!
  11. And if further proof of ownership is needed, here's Bernard with bass and band in action. (He recently took it from Tokyo to Towcester - not sure which gig this is 😎)
  12. Thanks all for the positive comments. If you think the front looks good, the back ain't half bad either!! http://
  13. We certainly were - my friend Michael G in person no less - he loves it!!
  14. Bernard is now the proud owner of the lovely bass in the pic, and about to upgrade to 'ST' spec (under-bridge piezos as well as mag pick-up at neck). That's what I now play in my Americana band - fitted with the lovely Newtone Acoustic strings that Bernard also loves - and it's an absolute belter (I would say that, wouldn't I 😉)
  15. Thanks Andy - you beat me to it by a matter of seconds - your guitar's famous 🙂
