We played an 'end of term' party for staff at a school. Lovely evening so we set up outside. The staff had been on it since getting rid of the kids at 15:30 so were suitably merry. Finish the first song and about half the staff disappear giggling, -not a good sign....Only to return a fee minutes later in fancy dress. They're raided the drama studio, lol! 😂 Best one was the inflatable sumo suits,! Next song, I spy the climbing frame, and manage to scale it to the top without missing a note, big jump off as the chorus drops. Three songs from the end, the head takes a call of a noise complaint and the news that the Police are on their way. We run through them quickly and save 'YMCA' til the end, so that if the police do turn up at least it'll be funny. Weirdest, but funniest one in a while!

Bit mad.... Four songs in a gang of "Do-what-you-likee's" burst in and start raiding the audience. My Go Pro was on a ledge of a column halfway into the audience, I assumed that was the last I'd ever see of that... it got knocked off in a tussle between security and a young scallywag, but a helpful stranger rescued it. I gave him a T-shirt after the show. Oh, we didn't miss a beat BTW...

I would have like to have been plugged into a blood pressure monitor this weekend when we found out a gig we were booked for turned out to be a pay-to-play!
-
Our first song, of our first ever gig I'm wireless so wandering around the crowd as I start playing, I even nip off to the loo before getting to the stage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK9AceCeD_M

Only our second gig so come and show some love! We sound like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdOfdFgEPlk

Lol, I'm guessing when the promoter said "Backline will be provided" what they mean is "Backline will be provided....by you"! lol. There's no way I could operate on borrowed gear. I'm not very fussy and I still spent days researching and atrying amps to get what was perfect just for me. Do the gig, it's a good learning curve - Knowing what you now know about the 'promoters' organisational skills, you should be a lot more prepared for how the timings on the night will probably go!
I usually play bits and bobs of some of the songs that the band will be playing on the night. It helps me get an idea of what the room and PA sounds like.
This. Normally with my volume knob on about 90% so I've got something in reserve

Have you suggested having 3 bass players yet?
-
On a similar vein, does anyone know of any "General Band" type forums? I know most opics are touched on in the various bits of this forum, I was thinking more about the whole band dynamic, getting gigs, getting backdrops made, finding a producer / accountant / insurance, etc.?
-
What's the most common tuning people use on these then? E-E? or something silly starting in B?
-
I tried plugging into my laptop once, but my jack didn't fit... I use PC speakers for the backing track, and amp for me - I can barely hear it over the neighbours dog / teenage daughter
-
How long is this tour?! Could you take it as annual leave, and use you're office job to fund it?

Make the easy bits look hard, and the hard bits look easy....

I love my HA3500. My two anecdotes to prove the love: I wrote off an Audi A3 in a horrific crash with my HA3500 on board, it was pulled from the wreckage and was fine. The last gig I played was an outdoor tent, no mic or DI for me, just head and cab (Marshall 4x10 600w) and I got a noise complaint from some Police officers in Alconbury. Which I was quite proud of as the amp was in Sawtry

Fantastic advice above! The only tip I can even think of adding: Do one rehearsal where you're all set up in a typical "Stage" layout. You dont want to find out you always got a visual cues from a drummer that you now have your back to on stage! I found out I get very aggressive / clumsy with my headstock, so am now always positioned on the left where I can't hit anyone with it, especially on a little stage.

World's greatest rockstar - not Kanye, but who tho?
urbanx replied to bassbiscuits's topic in General Discussion
How do you even begin to compare Kurt, Jimmy, Keith, Gene, Jim, etc.? Answer: You cant. The only thing we can all agree on is that Kanye is a prick. -
Might be my age, but I thought they were terrible. Looking at it from a "If I saw them up my local" point of view instead of a "I know they're rock royalty" point of view.... If I saw them play like that up my local, I'd go home early for a few tinnies - Just sloppy has-beens resting on their fame laurels Really disappointing after seeing some decent performances by them not too long ago (Superbowl etc.)

How was my gig last night? Awesome! We played the Summer Solstice event at Moonhenge. I’m a practicing pagan, so was really looking forward to the celebrations and seeing the venue anyway and it didn’t disappoint. It was quite an expensive ticket (£30) but around 400 people happily parted with their hard earned. There were three folk acts before us, so IP was a bit nervous about how we’d fit in (Marilyn Manson meets surf….). I was amazed when we launched into our first song how many camera phones went up and started flashing away, or stayed up their filming! The view of the henge from the stage was amazing, our set finished at 21:21 the exact time that the sun set through the centre of the henge. We were so appreciated by the crowd I had a permanent grin on my face for our whole set. OK… There were two glitches…. After our third song we received a noise complaint from the Police Station in the next town… we were quite proud that it was from a different district that we were playing, but we duly turned down. I didn’t really notice (due to the size of the site) but I heard afterwards that someone had lost their hand during our set…. There was a viking re-enactment thing earlier that day, and while the mead was freely flowing someone had an accident with a sword and lost their hand. So overall, yeah best gig ever (for me). The photos of us look a bit crappy as the stage was covered by a marquee thingy, so its always gonna look like a tent. Yours truly: The henge around 4 hours after we played (Not my photo)
Saw this once at a comedy club, the comic held up his hands for quiet, looked straight at heckler and said "let's all wait for her to think up a really good heckle". Everyone looked at heckler who was so embarrassed she left
I would have gone with: "If you want my come back, you'll have to scrape it off your mums teeth first"
