  1. I think the outer strings would be falling off the frets at the dusty end.
  2. Ah, that's a shame. Lovely bass but too cramped for me.
  3. Very nice! What is the spacing at the bridge please?
  4. Third gig for my current 3-piece semi acoustic outfit last night - in the Box Steam Brewery tap room, this may become a regular-ish thing. We now have a name and are really gelling as a group. We've gone with Aimless Arrows, adapted from the hawaiian proverb - an unaimed arrow never misses its target. Hopefully one of our mates will remember to actually take some photos next time! We are writing new material all the time and may even develop a variation set with full backing tracks ie drums, keys, pads and strings etc as we are recording studio versions. Going to record a new and exciting piece tomorrow.
  5. I got one today. I have found my octave pedal. I love the fuzz too, might get rid of my Ashdown Lomenzo.
  6. I think more people would like Simply Red if Mick Hucknall wasn't such an objectionable oaf. I loathe the Pet Shop Boys - I will leave the pub and take a walk up the road if they come on the jukebox. I was the only person in my circle of metal friends back in the day to not like Iron Maiden. I like dubstep!
  7. I predict that Gotoh's new Scrotalite range are going to be the next big thing.
  8. A while after my dad left 25 Views of Worthing he was employed by Mike Oldfield to set up his recording studio. There is a tale of a house party at our house where there was a jam session with my dad on bass, Mike on guitar and Jakko on drums!
  9. Ah thanks for the update. My mum (also now sadly passed) was in touch with Mark Sugden and had told me it was happening. I'll look out for it. 👍 Edit - I just found this interview with Roger Hillier, very interesting! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.psychedelicbabymag.com/2020/12/twenty-five-views-of-worthing-interview.html%3famp=1
  10. I'm not a typical pick player (I'm primarily fingers but can pick as well) I play right up on the fingerboard sometimes and everywhere in between.
  11. Viagra Boys in Bristol tonight. Should be entertaining! https://youtu.be/oCYBYf62wns
  12. I think I may have mentioned them 🙂 Love that they can do dance music in 5/4 and most people don't even notice!
  13. Done, although I'm not sure my answers will help you much!
  14. I actually took time out from gigging which turned into a 25 year break. I can't understand why as since returning it just gets better. My bandmates and I are creating things I am proud of and even humbled by. I get genuinely emotional performing it.
  15. I love it, it's the point of doing music for me. I'm quite fortunate as I don't even get nervous, unlike my 2 band mates.
  16. I have my two 'workers' - 5 string Yamaha with frets and a 5 string Harley Benton without. I use these for all practices and for gigs. Of the dozen or so left I have about 8 that rotate fairly randomly as sofa basses (often the choice may depend on what tuning the song I've decided to jam along with is in) or I will use whatever suits a recording as I have a selection of pickup and string choices available. My favourite is probably an Allen Eden Jazz (with P neck) as it really does play well. Some are here for sentimental reasons or just as wall art!
  17. I use my phone to browse - sigs only show in landscape so I don't see them. Having flipped to check I agree that the example posted is ludicrous. Most forums I've used in the past have a limit - one photo of a sensible size.
  18. Just played out for the second time at our lead singers local. Just a practice gig to be fair as we still haven't written enough material for a full set! It was awesome, I'm now doing backing vocals as well and the three of us produce a really good set of harmonies.
  19. These days I would say nearly anything by Charles Berthoud
  20. String tree on the A suggests an unhappy neck...
  21. I've only experienced one failure - back when I was very young and very poor I boiled my strings before a gig as they were pretty dead. I broke the E halfway through the last number, played on the octave until the end and no-one even noticed. I was a much heavier player then as well - I very much doubt this would ever happen again. I've never used to take a spare but would more than likely be using both fretted and fretless these days so will have at least something to fall back on.
