    Aren't they essentially guitar humbuckers? I'm not sure if that has a bearing? I find light strings and a bright, toppy eq advantageous to chordal adventures. Rotosound Funkmaster are the extreme.

    In many venues good sound at the desk will not equate to good sound for the majority of the audience. Thekla in Bristol is a good example - the desk sits in a corner under a balcony so the bass frequencies are hugely increased. Mix it so it sounds right there and the rest of the room are listening to mids and tops.

    Interesting watching Worthy Farm coverage this evening with regards to pitch corrected vocals. Idles and Damon Albarn not using it, sounding natural and good. Haim and Coldplay using it really heavily, and sucking the life from the performance as a consequence. They may as well have stuck a CD on.

    I have eclectic tastes, will listen to anything I like the sound of and don't rule out anything based on preconceptions about genre. There's loads of good rap out there - Beasties, Jurassic 5, Roots Manuva and anything with Q-tip on it for starters.

    Over 30 years of being fingers only and not being comfortable with a pick at all. In the last 18 months or so I've worked on it and managed get to the point where pick playing feels quite natural. I use a few different types but find these the nicest.

    Emperor's new clothes. His tone is garbage, always has been. The sound of a slightly clipping DI, as heard on many a festival stage since DIs became the norm. You can post produce as much as you like, it's still a farty mess. I'm not suggesting he can't play mind, he's a beast.

    One of my favourite P basses is my MIJ Jazz Bass Special. Mine is a rare one with a 42mm nut. P/J pickups and a contoured P body, its really a Jazz in name only.
