    There was a thread on this a while ago but Martin Briley played a 4001 on Greenslade's Time and Tide album. Some very nice playing and a great ric sound throughout.

    He was the bass player in a short lived band called Paice, Ashton and Lord and I think he played on the first two Robert Plant solo albums. Kind of lost track of him after that. Always like what he played.

    The only one I've got is the Pink Floyd Wall Live box set. The main reason I got it was that I was at the Earls Court gig that's used on this set. A great night. I agree about CDs. I always prefer to have something tangible when I buy music. As much as I love vinyl, yes I'm of that age, CDs are more convenient. I will be watching with interest to see what you'll be putting up for sale.

    My 95 MIM P is great. It has a lovely neck and the overal build quality is excellent. It sounded great when I got it. I've since pimped it up a bit and now it sounds even better. I wouldn't hesitate gigging it. I'm seriously considering getting a similar aged MIM Jazz to do the same thing with.

    I bought this bass from MervG last year for a project that never happened. So it is with deep regret that I need to move it on. I paid £700 for this fabulous instrument and IMHO it's worth every penny. However in these still difficult times I recognise that I may need to accept less, so please don't be shy about making me an offer. I will also consider another (4 string) bass of similar value in trade. US Masters are a high quality boutique guitar builder based in Wisconsin USA. Their instruments only rarely make it across the pond to the UK – I’ve only seen two others. Go here for more information on the bass: [url="http://www.usmasters.com/ep4353.htm"]http://www.usmasters.com/ep4353.htm[/url] This particular instrument is, I believe, an 2006 or 7 model which features a purpleheart finger board. This is no longer offered on new builds, which start at $1500. The finger board and the birdseye maple neck are nice and slim and look fantastic. I used to have a Stingray5 Fretless and I would say that the neck feels very similar to that bass, I think the EP53 neck is slightly thinner front to back. It makes playing the bass a pleasure. It features Kent Armstrong pick-ups and the Muti-Voice passive EQ system, which are explained here: [url="http://www.usmasters.com/basselectronicswht.htm"]http://www.usmasters.com/basselectronicswht.htm[/url] The eq is quite subtle but you can dial in a really lovely fretless bass tone very easily. The bass itself is in great, almost un-played condition, with no major dings or scratches. The body has a lovely blue to black burst over a flame maple top and offsets the purpleheart finger board beautifully. It has only ever been strung with flats so the fingerboard is unmarked. For a five string it is very light at 8 ½ Lbs and it hangs really nicely on a strap. The bass comes with a hard case, straplocks a spare set of used flats and user guide.     Some of you may recall that a good friend of mine gave me his MIM P bass a few months ago. Well ever since I've been slowly assembling a set of bits and pieces to upgrade the bass and today the final piece arrived via ebay. This is first bit of modding I've done and I am so pleased with the outcome I thought I'd share. So this is what I've done... Retuned and plugged it in and wow! The Quarter Pounders really deliver and the new electrics from our own KiOgon made the upgrade simple and all in all it sounds fabulous and I think it looks pretty damn awesome...but I might be a bit biased.

    Quite a few songs play off the open string (E tuned to D) in drop D. Slither by Velvet Revolver would be a good example where the bass plays pretty much the same riff as the guitar but an octave lower. This would be difficult to do an standard tuned 5 string.

    Crazy, for all the reasons you state. 50+ gigs a year is good going though. Is there no way you, and perhaps the other member/s of band, could get them to agree to try doing some gigs, say a months worth, with a set list? Hopefully then they'll see the benefits - keeping the crowd dancing, better flow between songs, fewer guitar changes etc and so on. If they won't do that then I think you'd be justified in going sooner than that IMHO.
