3. Very sweet. Would mind having a go on one of those
4. Yep, I've got the same Alpines that you have. I like the way you get a choice of inserts. They are great and worth every penny.
5. Welcome, it's nice here
6. There was a thread recently along similar lines... For me, I do both, whatever the song needs.
7. Never too late. Go for it I say.
8. I'd better wash my hair then....make sure you get my good side. Oh wait I don't have one!
9.
Good evening, Marvin... Here, although there are many others... http://www.customskins.co.uk/ Hope this helps.
I can vouch for Custom Skins. fast, friendly and effiecient. They did a great job on my last band's bass drum head.
10. Just seen an ad on gumtree for a guitar repair/set up/etc chap in Brighton. No idea if he's any good but might be worth having a chat. http://brightonguita...air.tumblr.com/ Let me know how you get on. I may have need someone local at point!
11. Happened to me once, not there but similar circumstances, was really hacked off at the time. Hopefully you can get a replacement gig there later...oh and guess what your fee's gone up
12.
We all know that it's going to end up nailed to the wall in a pub...
If it was on the wall in my local.....I'd find another local.
13.
Well despite some folks opinions above, I've bitten the bullet and ordered some Dunlops tonight. Every other review I've seen has been very positive, and as strings direct have my gauge (40-120) ridiculously cheap at the moment, I thought it was worth a punt.
Yep, that's why I bought mine (45 to 105) - strings direct as well as it happens. I would be interested to know what you think of them - the strings not Strings Direct - I already know they're pretty damn good
14.
I would say that Dunlop Nickel are nowhere near as good -sounding as Sunbeams , and certainly don't last anything like as long .
Doesn't surprise me. I think I'm a nickle kinda guy TBH.
15. Good job on the clean up Sir! Great looking bass.
16. As promised here's my "duvet" shot. You'll note that I've now swapped the Strat Knobs for proper chrome ones. I think it looks fab. Sounds great too!
17.
Dunlop strings are very high-profile at the moment , it seems to me . I have never tried the stainless steel , but the nickel ones I have had were O.K but fairly unremarkable overall . At least they aren't particulaly expensive . One thing I would say about these Dunlop strings is that they claim to be low-tension , but to my sensibilities they are just "normal" tension , not tight and not slack . They are certainly not elastic-feeling like DR round cores such as Hi Beams , Sunbeams , Fatbeams ect .
I've put a set of Dunlop Stainless Steels on my P (45 to 105) and I'm be underwhelmed if I'm honest. So I won't be using them again. I'll be reading this post with great interest to see where I go next. However I've used DR Sunbeams and various flavours of La Bella strings I think I'll mainly be looking at these guys going froward.
18. I'm thinking about a Gotch B201 for my P.
19.
Hey! That looks like mine... 2002 MIM P bass.
I'll have to take a photo of mine lying on a duvet cover for comparison - nice bass
20.
Quite right. I'd be looking more towards the '73 vibe.
That's very close...don't have the lower tug though or the holes on the scratch plate to mount it so I'll leave it as is.
21.
No! tort will look horrid on that blue... stay with the white or mint or pearl... I swapped out the machines on my 2002 model P as the originals were a tad sloppy. I also added chrome covers and tugbar for the vintage vibe. They really are super if you find yourself a good one.
As much as I like Torti Scratch Plates I don't think it would look right on this. The White 3 ply has faded to a nice cream so I'm going to keep it as is. The Machines on the bass seem very solid, I guess because they've hardly been used.
22. I love their stage sets - makes a welcome change too a wall of (empty) Marshall Cabs - IMHO of course.
23. Looks good. Do you have a full band practices there? I reckon that laminate floor makes things a bit bright! Personally I'd have put some rugs down to dampen things down a bit.
24. I had a 4 string version of this bass a while ago. A great bass, sorry I sold it - sniff, sniff -
25. Replacement knobs and strings arrived today so I'll be busy with the lemon oil and a small screwdriver. Once it's cleaned and restrung I'll post another pic or two. And to comment on some of the other posts. Yes he is a very decent chap indeed and it's nice to post some good news.
