1. Have you tried contacting Macca? I'll get my coat...
2. Quite a few of the ones I thought of have already been mentioned. so +1 from me for Stargazer, Fireball, When The Levee Breaks but...no mention that I can see of this one. Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper, from the album of the same name. It also has some fine bass playing from Dennis Dunaway.
3.
I have one of this and can confirm it's a superior bass !
Say Hi to Col and Ben for me! Nice work there.
4.
Loving the Squire/Lee prog angle. Eric Czar is amazing so I'll go with your list with perhaps Jaco & Stanley.
Why thank you. Eric Czar, much under rated IMHO.
5.
+1 to all of the usual suspects - plus Keith Emerson's left hand.
Amen to that !!
6. Here's mine Chris Squire Geddy Lee J-PJones Eric Czar John Entwhistle Neil Murray Pete Trewavas Sting John Wetton Greg Lake That'll do nicely
7. Just a thought here. Have you tried posting this on a Sax forum? CafeSaxophone.com is pretty good. My wife is a sax player and she reckons it about the best one in the UK...and no, before you ask, she doesn't want a soprano
8.
Glen Cornick's solo on "Bouree" (from Stand Up) is one of the most musical bass solos you'll ever hear.
+ 1,000,000 from me!
9. I saw that very bass when I was in there a couple of months ago. I was sorely tempted, it looked great. Nice one
10. Can confirm he has ended the auction
11. I used to have a Warwick Thumb that had a similar problem. I had a wide Neoprene "comfort" strap and it cured it no problem, no moving strap button etc. Might be cheaper, not to mention easier, than swapping bodies. Keep it simple - always works for me!
12.
Hmmm I like that Idea. Just nick it from a film or song. But then again I like the throw the poop at a wall Idea too....
There's been several threads requesting band names - might be worth checking out some of those ideas. I'm looking for a name for my band too. It seems that 99% of the names that you think up have already been taken by another band and the names that aren't are vetoed by the rest of band members...it's a thankless task. As mentioned previously look at favourite films, authors, newspapers, song titles, lyrics, magazine articles, etc. for inspiration. You never know where the next idea might come from. Keep an ear out for someone saying something off the cuff - like Black Shirts - second time lucky perhaps. Right, I'm off to try and think of name for our band... oh, oh, Black Star Riders ...bet that's never been used.... ...bugger
13. Sounds lovely, but I can't see any pics....
14. Absolutely, a great sound. Been years since I listened to that Album. Used to have it on Vinyl but didn't get round to buying on CD when I (foolishly) sold all my LPs.... I'll be getting this and the other Greenslade albums as soon as I can
15.
TBH the only way to be sure would be to ask Martin Briley or someone else who who was involved in the recording of the Time and Tide album. Pity it wasn't Tony Reeves as we could have asked him directly as he's a member here.
I found that Martin Briley, now based in the USA, has a web site and a contact page... So I emailed him a couple of hours ago. This is his reply. "Never played a Telecaster Bass in my life, that must be a picture of someone else. I played a Rickenbacker 4001 bass on that record" So now you know. The bass used on Time and Tide was a Ricky. Hope that helps
16.
Just because a particular bass is shown in photos of the band playing live and on the cover of the album does not in any way guarantee that it was the one used to record with.
Agreed, and there are many examples where that has happened but it's all I can find at the moment. I'm still looking...
17. Definitely a Tele in this photo of Martin Birley So I think to anwser the question it's no not a Jazz sound. It is however a great bass sound on that Album IMO.
18. I don't and it doesn't seem to make any difference to how long the strings last or sound. On the other hand a (6 string) guitarist friend of mine wipes down his strings every time otherwise his strings would tarnish overnight...I think much depends on how much you sweat and how acidic your sweat is. I always clean the fretboard when I change strings though and the rest of the bass too. As with most things it's all down to personal preference.
19. I would think that UK Mail will see a large drop in people using them. I sell stuff on ebay from time to time and to date I've not had a problem but I doubt I'll ever use UK Mail again. I guess they are one of the cheapest for a reason and now we know why - they don't give a damn.
20.
One old band worked our way through a compilation album of TV themes. The A-Team was good, but a personal highlight was coming on to the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air theme and the singer spontaneously leading a crowd singalong before launching straight into our loudest, fastest tune.
My old band used to kick things off with the theme to Buffy The Vampire Slayer by Nurf Herder. It never failed to get things off to a good start.
21. Barbara Thompson's 1980 live recording with Dill Katz on bass Just listening to that album myself after years of it being off my listening list - wonderful stuff, not just Dill's playing Also Jaco's playing on Joni Mitchell's Shaddws and Light live album is sublime
22.
Thats amazing
Yeah,that's what I thought...WoW
23. Nice stacked knob Jazz too
24. Hi everyone. My son plays a Peavey Millenium 5 and it has developed an intermitant fault on the neck pup. Aparantly it cuts out after a while. I'm told that it's a potted pickup so fault finding a repair is not really possible. There are no issues with the wiring from the pup. Ideally he'd like to replace it but the pickups are not a "standard" size IE not Jazz, Precision,MM or soapbar type. Is there anyone out there in Basschat land who happens to have one of these sitting in a drawer or does anyone know who makes a drop in replacement? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
25.
Ah, unfortunately I'm a rosewood 'board guy! Also, that might be a little more than I can really justify spending at the moment.
Ah well...worth a try. Hope you find what you're looking for.
