A band... equipment... space to rehearse... looks like heaven... 😊

Agreed, but as the others have said it was a bit grotty and IIRC not a little smelly 🤢

  2. Just had a look in an old photo album and here's a couple of pics from '78 taken at Alan Gordons...we didn't use the amp equipped room very often...this would have been after the Iron Maiden event.

Wish I still had that 70s P though...mind you it was about as heavy as boat a anchor! Note the HH gear!

I'm now struggling to try and remember the name of the place....

It was the Alan Gordon rehrarsal rooms.  I thought they were nearer to Leyton but it was a long time ago. Alan Gordon also had a shop in Walthamstow.  HH Amps in one room and the rest were basically garage sized rooms with padded walls!  I used be there on a Sunday with some mates from school, making a frightful racket in the late 70's and on one occasion Maiden were there too in the room next to us, their van was parked up outside stuffed with flight cases with Iron Maiden stenciled on them.  They were a few years older than us and looked much harder! so we only exchanged grunts as we moved our meger kit.  We couldn't hear ourselves either, but that was probably a good thing 😂.

I thought this was the natural finish (added coloured excepted) - have Spector created this patternation??

It's a special finish called Shoreline, I believe.  They've only made two with this finish so far and I think Mark at Bass Direct has ordered another.  I have no idea how they do it though, but it's all hand finished in their new custom shop, the photos do not do it justice.

  5. Sold!  Epifani Cab now £300

Meet ups and localish delivery possible.  Any trials available.   the cab is rated at 1000W (8ohms) and is not a heavy lift at 56lbs

Cover included and I can add in a speakon speaker lead. The cover is nice and thick and protects the cab nicely, however for some reason the handle cutouts are slightly out, it is supposed  be made for the cab...  You can still get to the handles OK though.

Please feel free to ask any questions.  Collection from Nettleham nr Lincoln.  I might be able to deliver locally or a meet halfway.  You are also very welcome to come along for a try.

  6. Posted this elsewhere but I guess this is it's natural home.  So here is my NSD - New Spector Day.  It was love at first sight, never picked up or played a Spector before and now I have, that's it, Spector's for me from now.  It feels brilliant to play and sounds awesome.  I couldn't be happier.  All I need now is band to play with.....NS-4 in Shoreline Violet special finish.

Thanks for the input so far. I realise that my first post is really not narrowing things down enough.

my current gear is Hartke ha5500 or tc electronic bq500

my cabs are ampeg115 or gk212mbe

    Us p bass

    big muff pedal

behringer bdi preamp (when using tc head only)

the best combination is the Hartke & Ampeg, this is also really heavy too.

The tc head and gk cabs are lightweight, but you do take a hit with the sound.

I play in rock bands, one covers and one original.

The drummer is loud in the originals band, so we are often at full whack and ears are ringing after practice.

in terms of bass tones that I like in a rock setting, Colin greenwood springs to mind. He uses ampegs or ashdown (and sometimes a music man bass too).

    I don’t want a heavy amp.

To be clear the budget would be for new head & cab.

amps that spring to mind are mark bass & Aguilar, but I’d honestly be open to anything.

in terms of eq I usually dial a nice tone and that’s it. I’ll then just use the tone control on the bass during a gig.

I usually like to play clean, but occasionally kick in the big muff.

apologies for the war and peace response!

First thing first....protect your ears!  Ringing ears after a rehearsal is not good. Save a bit of your budget for some quality ear plugs...if you do you'll probably hear yourself better for a start and your hearing will be saved, you really don't want tinnitus.
