1. Hi there, if you can post (at my expense of course), I'd be happy to buy the Speakon to Jack lead you have for sale? Thanks Nik
  2. Temptation is a very beautiful, yet dangerous thing.. Especially here on Basschat!
  3.
Thank you for your prompt reply regarding weight. Slightly on the heavy side for me...However some one will get a great bass. Regards Rob.
No problem and thanks..
  4.
I'm surprised this isn't gone already at this price. They generally go for well over a grand from what I've seen on here - amazing value. Nice bass and, personally, I like it when they're not totally mint - means you can relax more when you're using it
Thanks Still here at the moment...
  5. I've had a PM or two inquiring if the bass comes with the original case and any of the original case candy... Unfortunately it doesn't; it wasn't like that when I bought it I'm afraid and to be honest, if it did have all that, then it'd most probably be priced differently..
  6. Hope this helps the question of what the nut width is....
  7. Hi again, OK.. I'll try and measure it this morning for you. Cheers Nik
  8. Found this info online : *34'' scale (don't get any ideas about the B string, it marvelous) *1.875'' nut spacing *String spacing is 19 mm *Neck profile is a very comfortable asymmetric... it's big but it doesn't feel as big as it should (and in general I find big necks = big tone) *Factory pickups are a Bill Lawrence design and sound wonderful all the way down to open low B And this on Amazon of all places! The five-string Roscoe Beck Bass V guitar is built to Beck?s exacting specs. It features a special ?Modern-Vintage? select alder body, maple neck with assymetrical oval shape and Posiflex? graphite neck support rods, 9.5?-radius pao ferro fingerboard, two Special Design side-by-side humbucking pickups, master tone control with push/pull mid-shaping feature, three-position blade switching and two mini-toggle coil switches that enable six further tonal combinations, a distictive three-ply mint green pickguard, chrome hardware and a six-bolt neck plate.Model Name Roscoe Beck V (5-String) BassModel Number 019-6500-(Color #)Series Artist SeriesColors (800) 3-Color Sunburst,(809) Candy Apple Red,(844) Shoreline Gold,(845) Teal Green Metallic,(Polyurethane Finish)Body Special Design ?Modern-Vintage? 9. The necks are surprisingly comfortable to play IMO, but obviously, everyone's different when it comes to these things. It's an asymmetric profile, which makes it easier to play if you've never tried a 5 string before.. String spacing at the bridge is 19mm. I'll try to find out more detailed spec for you and will post it up here when I do.
  10.
Cheap low end mixers don't generally have instrument compatible inputs - they tend to have mic and line level inputs. If you plug a guitar or bass directly into one of these you will get an impedance mismatch as your bass is designed to work driving a very high impedence input (around 1Megaohm) whereas mixer mic/line inputs are usually much lower impedence (600ohm to 10kiloohm). The result is likely to be muddy sound with no highs although you might get away with it with an active bass depending on the preamp design. You shouldn't get any such problem using any mixer with line level signals such as between a preamp and power amp. Even the cheap ones these days have barely measurable THD when used properly and I doubt anyone except maybe a really fussy pro studio engineer could tell if you had one in the signal path if its being used properly.
Thanks for such a detailed explanation.. I didn't know that at all when I tried that set up out, so that would explain why I got such a poor sound from it. Are things better now because technology has improved?
  11. I have the SVT-15EN, and it's a lovely sounding cab IMO. If you play any Motown, Soul, Blues or Rock and like a more 'old-skool' sound, then this cab is perfect for that. GLWTS
  12.
BARGAIN!!!

And then some; blimey! Best signature bass Fender ever built IMO.
Thanks Chaps!
  13.
PM sent
And replied..
  14. Just got home to a flurry of PMs, but just to say quickly that, according to my very old fashioned bathroom scales, the bass weighs approx 4.5 kg.
  15.
A really good bass and good guy to deal with. Glwts Nik
Thanks Nico
  16. SOLD - thanks for looking Hi Folks Here for sale is my 1999 Fender Roscoe Beck 5 String; an excellent 3 Tone sunburst model which is in 7.5/10 condition and is all original. Price/Trade Value: £875 o.v.n.o. I bought this bass last July from Basstardz here on the Forum because – to be frank - I missed having one (this one being the fourth RBV I’ve owned since 2007). And although I was really excited when I got it, the truth is that I’ve hardly used it since it arrived, perhaps a handful of rehearsals and about two gigs, certainly not much more than that. Nevertheless, when I have used it, it’s been great as these basses always are; tonally, the RBV does just about everything for me; P-Bass tones, J-Bass tones, modern double-humbucking tones, single coil tones, etc, etc - all the classic bass sounds are here in one passive bass!! In terms of build quality, these basses are superb and for a 34" scale neck, the B string sounds fabulous!! To explain briefly, the reason I’m selling is two-fold really; firstly, because I joined a new band around the time I bought this last summer and in that band setting, I’m almost exclusively using 4 string basses because they suit the band much better. And secondly, because I currently have three 5 string basses, none of which are really getting a look in. And this is the one of my five string basses that I think is more likely to sell.. Some photos below, which for some reason, I can't get to show the right way up: Please PM me if you'd like to see hi-res versions of these and other photos I have of the bass. In terms of its condition, it’s in good condition generally and everything works as it should do, however, there’s some natural wear & tear as you’d expect for a bass of this age, including some markings to the back of the neck which you can feel when you’re playing. I’ve tried to photograph these as best I can in the photo of the back of the neck. I will try and do some better pictures later or tomorrow. Here's the spec:
· 34" scale maple neck with asymmetrical profile, Pau-Ferro board,22 frets

· 2 x special humbuckers designed by Bill Lawrence,

· Bridge specially made by Gotoh, with through body stringing

· Controls

· 1 x volume,1 x tone with pull/push facility, reduces neck pick-up output by 20% to get classic J-Bass tones

· 3 way selector switch for bridge, both, neck pickups.

· 2 x mini-toggle switch for single, series, parallel mode on each pick-up
Lots more info about the history and technical features of these basses can be found here: http://www.roscoebeck.com/profile.htm https://en.wikipedia...oscoe_Beck_Bass http://en.wikipedia....oscoe_Beck_Bass A few YouTube links here: https://www.youtube....h?v=6nHzCHEw77E https://www.youtube....h?v=2eWFCf3q5cI https://www.youtube....h?v=aViuQra2s9U https://www.youtube....h?v=JO1AUy6Akwg I think it goes without saying that I'd much rather this bass was collected in person, but I will ship it in a functional but far from perfect hard case (for an extra £15), and very securely packaged up if necessary. Plenty of Basschat 'chat', tea/coffee and other beverages on offer to anyone who wants a trip to Littlehampton on the south coast in order to come and view the bass first. Price wise, I think £875 (or very near offer) is about right taking into account what the market’s doing right now, the above mentioned condition etc. I did pay quite a bit more than this last year, so although I’d listen to offers, I won’t entertain anything too low as I’m not in a desperate rush to sell the bass. In terms of trades, I could be tempted by a not too expensive P Bass, but having just bought a fabulous Hayman 40 40, my 4 string bass needs are pretty much covered right now. But please feel free to PM me – worst I can do is say no (as the saying goes). Anyway, thanks for looking and any questions, feel free to PM me or ask away here. Nik
  17. Great piece of kit, IMHO.. I had an Eden Metro rig for a few years and in terms of getting a great hifi, yet warm sound straight out of the box, it was as good as anything I've owned in the past 10 years. This preamp does that and so much more, so if you're after really comprehensive eq and a lot of tonal options in your rig, this could be the preamp for you. GLWTS
  18.
You dont need more power, the fact that you achieve the volume you want by boosting low e.q clearly demonstrates that. When I say a signal level problem I mean exactly that - not a signal integrity problem but a gain level mismatch between the pre and power amp. RBIs are known to have problems driving certain power amps with a hot enough signal. You don't say what setting your RBI master volume is on - I presume you've tried it fully cranked ?. If its still not loud enough then you could try running the RBI through a cheap mixer like this into the power amp to provide some signal boost. Maybe worth a punt at £30 if it might save you buying another amp.
Just a thought but, my experience of using relatively cheap mixers in the signal stage like this is that they can downgrade the quality of your tone, which is what happened when I tried a cheap 4 channel mixer a few years ago as a way of trying to balance the different output levels of my basses during gigs... In the end, it sucked out so much of the tone, I stopped using it and looked at different ways to achieve the same end result. Though it was more expensive, I bought a more high quality, true bypass pre-amp instead and used it to boost the bass with the lower output and it worked a treat.
  19.
Though I must admit, I played a private boat party yesterday for a load of charming theatre lovelies, and the ever-fragrant Juliet Stevenson was bopping about, and I strongly suspect I was grinning like a fool.
Great story! Like that poetic turn of phrase 'ever-fragrant' too... I always look forward to making music; gigging, rehearsing and very occasionally, recording - it's the whole point of playing the bass for me. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy playing bass on its own, but it's so much more fun playing with other musicians and especially so, if there's an audience there to play for/to. Having said that, I still suffer from an acute and almost untreatable case of 'bass face'. After nearly 40 years of playing, a cure is out of the question, so I guess the only solution is to buy some T-shirts that say 'I'm smiling on the inside', or words to that effect.
  20. Great thread! Sadly, I don't have any technical/craftsman skills to offer I'm afraid, but it's good to know that so many fellow Basschatters do, and are willing to help.
  21.
Sounds great...nice playing too.
+1 I think the very nice playing is bringing out the absolute best the bass has to offer..
  22. Sorry Owen, Just measured the bass I had in mind for your case and it's not going to fit.. Shame because I liked the look of the case. Anyway, GLWTS and thanks for your help. Nik
  23. Thanks Owen Am not able to check dimensions of the bass until I get home later, but will do so and then PM you. Cheers Nik
