3.
Placeholding thread for the moment - just put the date in the diary and make sure you attend the bash. It's the 10th anniversary and it will be special! Usual venue: Jubilee High School, School Lane, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 1TE. Watch this space
Thanks for posting this up bluejay.. Can't quite believe it's 2016 already, nor that this will be the 10th SE Bash and the eighth one at the same venue! Happy New Year Folks
 4.
When doves cry by Prince.
5.
I've told the story on here before, but Lemmy once visited my mum while she was in hospital having a knee operation. He used to visit a friend of his in Cardiff who ran a motorbike repair place, and there was a newsagents shop close to it where my mum used to work. Lemmy & his friend used to be in & out of the shop all the time buying cigarettes & stuff - mum recognised him (I had a massive Motorhead poster on my bedroom wall at the time) & told him that we had a cat called Lemmy, which he found very amusing. They would regularly have a natter when he came into the shop after that. By coincidence his friends wife had to go into hospital for some reason at the same time that my mum was in having her knee op. When he went in to visit her he also found out what ward my mother was on & went in to see her too, which was a very lovely & kind thing to do. My mother thought the world of him, she thought he was a really nice guy. The first thing I thought when I heard the news about Lemmy today was "Mum would have been really upset about this"
What a fantastic story! Says so much about him as a person, away from his infamous rock 'n' roll persona.
 6.
A true legend. We will not his see his like again, which is sad Man alive, it has a been a year of attrition in the bass community.
+1 Very saddened to hear this news. Saw Motorhead only the once at Guildford about 15 years ago and they were absolutely fantastic! There's something very iconic about Rickenbackers anyway, but even more so when Lemmy played his. If/when they come to make the film of his life, they'll be hard pushed to find an actor who can do him justice.. RIP Lemmy.
 7. Hi, Does the fretboard roadmaps book have the CD with it? If so, I'd like it please. Thanks Nik
 8.
In the diary. We need to make your idea of Paul coming along with a stall a reality!
Definitely! We need to start working on that in January Trevor. Hope you've had a good Xmas by the way? Nik
 9.
A very happy Christmas to you too, Nik! SE Bash 2016 in diary - we'll get to work on it soon, and we'll make it special.
Thanks Silvia and +1 to that!
 10.
As for the music, choosing between Motown, Stax and Atlantic is like choosing between three vintage wines. They're all a quality product we can enjoy!
+1
 11.
What an absolute gem! Well done stumbling across that, bought a tear to my eye!
+1
 12. Hi Folks, Firstly, just to say that wherever you are, whatever you're doing, I hope that you have a fabulous Christmas with your nearest and dearest and that Santa brings you lots of bass-related presents! Secondly, though it's a long way off, I thought I'd take this opportunity to let you know that the 10th South East Bass Bash will be taking place on 24th September 2016. Please save the date if you're interested in coming along. Until then, Merry Xmas and Happy New Year. Nik
 13. Great piece of design this amp.. I always wanted one when I used to have an Eden Metro combo because it did most of what the Metro did without all the weight. I'm playing different music now and use an Ampeg valve amp bought for that, otherwise this would have been very tempting.. Anyway,GLWTS and have a good Christmas!
 14. Very cool indeed and looks like you've done a lot of very well thought out work on this bass! GLWTS
 15.
Great looking, great sounding, great seller, what's not to love?! Would snap this up if I had the funds. This will make someone very happy.
+1 Seems like a very good price for a boutique super-Jazz 5.. Cool colour too. GLWTS
 16. Great amps these.. I've had one for 5 years now and still really like it a lot. It recently saw off some competition in the form of a Thunderfunk TFB550, which to my ears sounded sterile in comparison.. Plenty of power, a great natural sound straight out of the box, valve pre and a really useful bendable FX loop. Plus it's built like a tank! Compared to modern Class D amps, it is heavy, but the huge toroidal transformer is part of why it delivers such a great sound. GLWTS
 17. +1 for Andy Warren.. Good bass playing in the Monochrome Set too...
 18. As a result of reading this very interesting, sometimes hilarious and sometimes frustrating thread, I decided to have a listen to the only Jaco album I've got, which is called Punk Jazz.. It's a compilation of a lot of his own work and some of the recordings he did with other writers, musicians /bands etc. Some of it I really liked, quite a lot I didn't like and some of it was too far into Jazz/Fusion territory for me to stay with to be honest. Though his tone and style aren't what I particularly like as a bass player, I really respect his courage as a musician to take risks and go beyond the boundaries of what was then the musical norm for most bass players.. I also wish that I had even an ounce of his musical ability and melodic fluency.. Anyway, after reading the sleeve notes about his life and very tragic death at the age of just 35, I decided to read the Wiki page about him and was absolutely horrified to hear how he died at the hands of a Bouncer at a local music club in Florida. What makes the tragic story even worse is that the guy who killed him only served 4 months in prison for committing such an awful crime!! Just my opinion of course, but whether you rate him as a bass player or not, like his music or not, Jaco was one of our own and should be respected as such for that alone. Sadly, musicians still get treated like second-class citizens in a lot of countries - especially so-called 'Rock and Roll' musicians like Jaco and a lot of us on here, and what happened to him and the way the justice system in his own country failed him and his family, should remind us to support and celebrate our community of bass players just that little bit more, instead of knocking pieces off each other. Just my 2p worth.. But if he was still around, I'd happily have bought him a drink and shook his hand if I'd seen him after a gig.
 19.
All that said, McCartney is undoubtably a great musician, writer, band leader, composer - probably amongst the greatest and most influential of our age - but as a bass player - I think he's a pretty good player and how he sings whilst playing some of those bass parts is a mystery to me. Technically, as a bass player, there have been many better but nonetheless he plays perfectly for his material. All IMHO of course!! I'm sure I've subconciously nicked many of his phrases which now form part of my personal dictionary of bass licks!!
+1
 20. I'll also add my best wishes to Steve Severin for a speedy recovery.. Was only listening to 'Jigsaw Feeling' from The Banshees first album yesterday.. Brilliant! These were my favourite bass players from the New Wave, post-Punk era .. Not saying they're better than anyone else mentioned, just the ones who's playing I enjoyed, admired, aspired to etc.. Leigh Gorman (Adam & The Ants/BowWowWow) Barry Adamson ((Magazine) Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads) Bruce Foxton (The Jam) Bruce Thomas (Elvis Costello & The Attractions) Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) Peter Hook (Joy Division) I also liked the guy from Killing Joke, but can't remember his name.. And loved the guy's playing in The Specials too.
 21.
Looks like George Martin has added some echo.
