1. I'll also add my best wishes to Steve Severin for a speedy recovery.. Was only listening to 'Jigsaw Feeling' from The Banshees first album yesterday.. Brilliant! These were my favourite bass players from the New Wave, post-Punk era .. Not saying they're better than anyone else mentioned, just the ones who's playing I enjoyed, admired, aspired to etc.. Leigh Gorman (Adam & The Ants/BowWowWow) Barry Adamson ((Magazine) Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads) Bruce Foxton (The Jam) Bruce Thomas (Elvis Costello & The Attractions) Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) Peter Hook (Joy Division) I also liked the guy from Killing Joke, but can't remember his name.. And loved the guy's playing in The Specials too.

9.
Where is collection from?
I'm based in Littlehampton,, West Sussex, but will be travelling to London and Hertfordshire over the Christmas period if that's any help?
10. Just bought an Ampeg 210 from Paul, who's not only a really great person to deal with, but he's in a really cool band too! So deal with Paul in complete confidence Folks... Paul - thanks for the cab; I'm really pleased with it and it was a pleasure meeting you.. Nik
11. I've just bought a bass from Taran too and am very happy to recommend him to one and all here on Basschat also! He's really easy to deal with, good communications and takes the time and trouble to make things work - even when there's lots of practical obstacles (like distance) in the way.. All the best Taran and thanks for the bass! Nik
12. Thanks Taran, It was great to meet you too and thanks for your time and effort in making it happen.. Really cool bass by the way and is challenging my perceptions of how active basses sound, though it's great that it has a passive/active switch. Cheers Nik
13. Just bought an EBS Octobass pedal from Simon.. Really good to deal with; good comms, fast delivery and a nice little pedal. Deal with in complete confidence Folks! Thanks Simon, Nik
14. Heard a lot of good things about these amps, so have a free BUMP on me! Carvin aren't ever going to win prizes for being the most fashionable manufacturer of bass gear on the planet, but they clearly are doing something right to have been around this long.. And this looks like another very well featured amp from them at what is a good price. GLWTS
15. Another great story of Chris's legendary Basschat buying & selling... Surely there's a movie in this... Or at least a John Shuttleworth type TV series, something along the lines of '500 Motorway Service Stations'??
16. Great cab this - I had the non-neo model and it was fantastic.. I know it's a cliche to say this, but if if I didn't already have far too many cabs, I would be very, very tempted... GLWTS
17.
I'm with you on M John Harrison. A great writer. For the albums... Richard and Linda Thompson, 'I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight'. Wire, 'Chairs Missing'. Magazine, 'Real Life'. Television, 'Marquee Moon'. Palace Music, 'Arise Therefore'. The Mutton Birds, 'Envy Of Angels'. Talking Heads, 'Stop Making Sense'. 3 Mustaphas 3, 'Heart Of Uncle'. Luxury item... trombone. I can't play the thing worth a damn, and there'd be nobody there to laugh.
Great to see Magazine's 'Real Life' in your list - still one of my all-time favourite albums...
18.
In the current trend of posts - how about gigs you went to full of expectation that left you feeling really deflated at the end? Always going to be subjective, of course, but I think for me it was Joe Bonamassa some years back at the Royal Albert Hall. At that point I had most of his back catalogue and a live DVD at Rockpalast and was excited at the prospect of seeing someone who was widely being lauded as the 'new' talent in blues guitar perform live. It was dire. How they managed to get such a poor sound at the RAH is beyond me, but they did - only sorting it out around half way through. And it was all about Joe showing off his licks all night. All speed, no taste, no space, almost a different guitar for each track for Mr Bonamassa to masturbate with. Eric Clapton shuffled on to a 1 minute standing ovation, dusted off one of his bog standard, middle of the road solos and got another 2 minute ovation at the end. Paul Jones shuffled on and played what might well have been a blindingly good harmonica solo but Joe masturbated over it and you couldn't really tell. Did I say it was dire?
+1,000000 If you're talking about the 2009 gig, I was there unfortunately - guest of a friend who had tickets. I'd never heard of the guy before and have never wanted to since.. I've never experienced such a pile of soulless fret-w**k in all my life. It was so devoid of genuine blues and soul, it made someone as 'robotic' as Gary Numan (albeit a completely different genre of music) sound soulful in comparison. IMHO, Bonamassa has no charisma, no voice, no songs and his guitar playing leaves me completely cold. I'm not particularly a Clapton fan either, but his appearance was the only good bit of the show.
19.
Bowie....dividing opion, illiciting strong(ish) feelings both ways....and most importantly, people are talking about him. Back to his best.
+1 As a life-long Bowie fan, it's fantastic to see him still pushing boundaries, taking risks and staying true to his artistic intentions.. He's truly inspirational I think! Thought the last album was a bit patchy in terms of song quality, but the first single from it - 'Where Are We Now' - was as good a Bowie song IMO as any from his really creative high point in the 70's. Can't wait for the new album now..
