Not sure to be honest. It might have been a black refinish from what was originally a natural finish? There have also been some documented cases of the PBxxxx numbering being occasionally out of sequence too.. Might be worth you looking on this site for more info,if you haven't done so already: http://walbasshistory.blogspot.co.uk/?m=1

That looks pretty genuine to me; Greg was one of the early Wal team in the Pro model era.. Nice bass by the way!

Songs You Really Don't Like Playing?
silverfoxnik replied to yorks5stringer's topic in General Discussion
In 9 years of playing covers, this is the song I absolutely loathed playing: Jamiroquai: 'Love Foolosophy' Not even a good Bernard Edwards style bass-line could redeem that song for me. Utterly horrible plastic, soul-less, funk-less rubbish in every aspect.... -
ah another very great one now gone
+1 Very sad news! RIP 'Sir' BB King
Ah yes, Dennis Dunaway - I liked his bass playing; he co-wrote several hits including 'School's Out'.
+1 Great bass player, one of my earliest influences.. His bass lines are so distinctive on the first few Alice Cooper albums, they almost define the songs.. And I agree with the OP; his jazz bass was very 'bling' for it's time!
He's on that very short list of once in a life time performers. Blue
+1 I saw him at Hammersmith, mid 80's IIRC.. He was a fantastic performer; had the audience in the palm of his hand from start to finish!

Good thread this! I think a lot of what gets you close to the right tone for a song comes more from how you physically play the bass line itself, as opposed to the particular bass you're using, or amp e.q., fx etc.. For example, the verse bass line in Lenny Kravitz's 'Fly Away' is slapped, and playing it like that gives you the sound required for the song at that point.. Switch to finger-style playing for the chorus and the sound immediately changes to what's required at that point in the song. So, in that example, those two changes of playing style have the most immediate impact on the sound IMO. Which means that, in theory, one well set up bass (that you enjoy playing) with fairly new strings and a good amp/cab should do the trick provided you approach playing the bass line for the song in the right way.. But having said all of that; have I ever managed to take just one bass to a gig in the last 9 years? No. Have I changed basses, amps, cabs, fx pedals countless times in the last 9 years? Yes. I guess I could have got by with gigging just the one bass over the years, but it's been so much fun experimenting with different gear set ups etc, etc, that I wouldn't change it for anything! Mind you, I pretty much use just one bass all the time these days; a Yamaha BB300 that I got here on BC recently. Cheap as chips, relatively speaking, but it works so well on so many types of music, it's perfect... Almost!
such a cloud of negativity... congratulations to BlueJay
+1 -
It's still being looked after Nik Plugged it in yesterday for the first time in ages, and compared it against my original 70's Mutron III and 3 Leaf Proton. It sounds easily as good as both of them in my opinion! Also has the ability to plug an expression pedal into it and use it as a Wah, so pretty amazing for the price! Someone jump on this now!
Cool Never tried it with an expression pedal - must try that!

Bass Player wanted - West Sussex/Hampshire area
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Bassists Wanted
I'm good thanks Chris - you?? Wow, I didn't realise you were still working in Wales after moving back to Kent... How do you manage all of that? Yes - you'd have been perfect for this gig; shame! -

I enjoyed the show; Blur were really on form I thought.. The Ong Ong song was great. Laura Marling was as interesting as ever and showed again what a talented guitar player and singer she is... Favourite of the night though, was Natalie Prass, who had a great bass player in her band - he was really funky! -
Hello fellow Basschatters, I recently received an email from a local female jazz singer who's looking for a bass player to join her jazz quintet that's due to start gigging in June around the Sussex/Hampshire areas. Kerry Le Bern is her name and ideally, Kerry is looking for someone who can play electric bass & double-bass, something that i can't do unfortunately - hence why I'm posting this ad here to see if there's any interest for this opportunity from within the Basschat community? So, in Kerry's own words: "I'm currently looking for a bass player to join a small jazz band I have just set up. Unfortunately our bass guitarist is very ill and has had to stand down. We are a friendly bunch and rehearse weekly (Tuesdays) in the Bognor Regis area. I have keys, sax. Percussion and me on vocals. I do some solo performing and you can have a look at my website here: www.theladysings.co.uk We started in February but we have gigs lined up from June. The set list is mostly what I call 'easy listening jazz' i.e. American songbook, but we are also doing some modern stuff in a jazzy style e.g. Madeleine Peyroux, Caro Emerald etc; If anyone is interested on Basschat, please ask them to contact me via email or on 077398 75099. I'm looking for someone who can commit to weekly rehearsals in advance of gigs from June. Many thanks! Kerry Le Bern Dip LCM "] www.theladysings.co.uk " If you're interested, please contact Kerry directly using the details above. Thanks for looking and good luck! Nik

Looks like it's going to be a great event Mick - well done! Hi Mick Sadly, i can't make the Bash as I'm rehearsing that day for a festival gig the next weekend, so I am only able to wish you all the best for the day.. There's no doubt that it's going to be good one from everything I've read so far, and how good your previous bashes have been... All the best Nik
