  1. Great idea for a conversation @Rayman@Rayman πŸ‘ Another BassWorlder here too... Think I joined in 2006, so it's now 17 years of having the best possible 'bass community' experience imaginable IMO. Echoing what many have said already, this place is a community that enriches you, entertains you, inspires you - sometimes annoys you - and most importantly of all for me, it helps you. I've simply lost count over the years of the times that Basschat members have helped me out with things ; technical help, playing help, gear loans, deps, advice etc, etc. The list is endless. When I started playing bass in the mid 70s, there was next to nothing available to help you get started... I would have loved to have had something remotely like Basschat back then. Through buying and selling gear and from being involved in the South East Bass Bash since 2008, I've been lucky enough to meet loads of Basschatters in person, and made some very good friends along the way. So for me, Basschat is a community first, and an amazing information resource second. It's priceless really, when you think about it. Talking of priceless, I still miss Big Beef Chief - his contributions were off the Richter scale funny! πŸ˜‚
  2. Great venue, The Music Machine! Has a rising stage that was set at different heights for different gigs. I saw The Antz and The Banshees there on a double bill in '78 - it was a fantastic night!
  3. Very good point... Adam wrote a lot of the bass parts on all the early Antz songs.
  4. Great to see a thread on here about Leigh and where's @4000 when you need him? We used to talk a lot about what an amazing bass player Leigh is back in the day... Leigh has lived in California for many years now and is still pretty active, touring with one of two versions of BowWowWow that's still going- the other one is fronted by Annabella. He's had two Wals over the last 40 years, both ProI II models. Back in the late 90s, I sold him the leather scratchplate model that he uses a lot these days, though I think he had to change the neck on it at one point. Totally right about Leigh's slap playing @Marky L- he is really good in that department... But his signature sound is definitely his pick playing, and often on BWW tunes, it's the bass lines that really made the songs IMHO. Band I was in at the time supported BWW on (IIRC) their last ever UK tour in 1982, so I had the pleasure of watching Leigh play every night for nearly 3 weeks.. He was absolutely superb - hardly ever missed a note or a beat and was great to watch. There are lots of his bass lines that I love, but amongst all of them, 'Go Wild In The Country', 'Prince of Darkness' and 'Sexy Eiffel Tower' are my personal favourites...
  5. And you too, Mick - sorry I spelt Sara's name wrong in my post!
  6. Just had the pleasure of meeting Mick in person in what was a typical 'Basschat services station' style rendezvous, somewhere off the M1 near Northampton. Mick is now the proud owner of a lovely Squier CV P Bass which I hope he really enjoys playing ! The whole transaction has been really easy; great comms, fast payment etc... So, I'm very happy to recommend Mick to one and all here on Basschat. Thanks Mick, it was a pleasure to meet you and Sara this morning and enjoy the bass! Nik
  7. My thoughts exactly... It's a beautiful looking bass as it is but that matching headstock takes it to another level! I had a CIJ P Bass a few years back and it was superbly built, and a joy to play. πŸ€” Yet another one that I shouldn't have sold.... (bashes head repeatedly with multi fx unit).. 😁 Anyway, enough of my self-recrimination.. She's a beaut Brian and GLWTS ! πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  8. Wow... Out if almost nowhere, this lovely CV P Bass has finally been... S O L D Amazing - thanks for all the interest and positive comments, Folks! πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  9. Cheers Chris πŸ‘πŸ˜Š Amazing what autotune and flex time in Logic Pro can do for you... 😁 Very true about that Precision tone, it just works perfectly.
  10. Thanks @tegs07and @briansbrew - really helpful feedback and comments. πŸ‘ I wish I had the original pick ups @jrixn1but alas, it came with the Fender Original P-Bass Pick Ups already loaded... Thanks for the suggestion though!
  11. Thought I'd better bump this as I have been so busy lately, I forgot. Which reminds me - I have a question for you : In all the time I've been buying and selling bass gear here on Basschat, I've never had a situation like this one, where my For Sale advert has had almost 600 views, but I've not received one single PM or offer! So, my question is, what's wrong, what am I doing wrong... ...Is it the bass itself, the price I'm asking, the current state of the second hand market, my advert?? I'm a little but stumped to be honest. So, Basschat friends, your constructive, insightful feedback and comments would be most welcome. Thanks πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  12. Hi Folks, Well, who says lightning doesn't strike twice? I've just bought a lovely P Bass from Jon, aka @Mudpup, and the whole transaction from start to finish was an absolute pleasure - just like the first time ! Suffice to say that Jon is a man of impeccable taste when it comes to basses/bass gear and is as accommodating and chilled out as it could possibly be when it comes to sorting out a Basschat deal.. In short, highly, highly recommended to one and all on here and a credit to the Basschat community. Thanks again Jon for a great conversation, the chance to try out your lovely new Warwicks and for a fabulous P Bass of course! πŸ‘πŸ˜Š Here's to the next one... 😁 Nik
  13. And here's a picture of said bass in action last night.. I felt quite emotional playing it to be honest.
  14. I'm really sad to hear this news about Nigel.. I'd heard he wasn't well from @Chimikea couple of months ago, but nevertheless, this is a surprise. Nigel was an absolute gent who I bought a lovely, 1980s G&L SB1 from 3 years ago.. So I'm going to use it at my gig tonight in memory of him! RIP Nigel πŸ˜”
  15. Hey Chris, Thanks for the kind words! πŸ‘ Well, it'd be great to see you, but I realise it's a long way for you to travel. If you do though, the beers are on me - I must owe you about a million of them as it is... 😁
  16. Hello fellow Basschatters, Just a quick message to say that for any of you who are based in London, my band - Harmonic Swamp - is playing at The Dublin Castle in Camden Town, London this coming Friday, 21st April. We're on stage around 9.15pm. Here's some info about the gig: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0waNbkDmY8KYJpx8rBD77wTAMUrrGAk8zPTVm1sxr4ZX6RRsQKaYtd32sYPMnwC65l&id=167859290629456 And some info about the band with some video clips: https://www.facebook.com/harmonicswamp https://instagram.com/harmonicswamp?igshid=ODM2MWFjZDg= If we sound like your thing, you're free and able to come down, it'd great to see you! Cheers Nik
  17. OK, in the hope that it helps spark some more interest in this lovely P Bass, here are three very rough & ready mp3s of the bass in action, to give you a flavour of what it can sound like. These have been put through a Zoom B1X Trace Elliot amp sim, and recorded into Logic 9 via an M-Audio interface. I've added a bit of compression and a tad of 2.5 kh eq to compensate for the strings being a few months old. Please excuse the scrappy playing and the basic sound engineering.. It is Sunday morning after all! 😁 Any questions, please ask... Squier CV P Bass Test Motown Style.mp3 Squier CV P Bass Test I Wish Finger Style.mp3 Squier CV P Bass Test Pick Style.mp3
  18. Morning All, Having bought something else, I really do need to move this on now... So, new price is Β£350. Happy to throw in a decent gig big for an extra Β£15, or the Thomann Tweed case for an extra Β£35. Also, I will consider shipping this as long as it's fully insured. Any questions, please send me a message or ask away here. Thanks for looking... Nik
  19. You did, some very nice ones too, Mick including that fabulous Veillette-Citron if I'm not mistaken?
  20. This used to be mine for about 5 years, and before that, it belonged to @TheGreek. It was always a really comfortable bass to play and it sounded pretty good too. Not as aggressive sounding as some P Basses, but a really nice, usable tone. I imagine that it's considerably better in every respect now, given the very sensible upgrades you've done @Paolo85... And I still think that the mirrored scratchplate and tone knobs look cool... 😁 So, taking all of that into account, at this price, I'd say someone's going to get an absolute bargain here! GLWTS 😊
