1. Very wise move Ollie.. It's a beautiful example of a classic bass. Hope all's well with you and you had a good Xmas? Nik
2. I've had a couple of these over the years and they really are lovely sounding pieces of kit! Quite a surprising range of tones too.. Must say that I've never seen one in such good condition as this either. GLWTS.
3. BUMP for a great looking bass! Always fancied one of these but IIRC, these are 17mm string spacing at the bridge, which is just a bit too narrow for me. Anyway, GLWTS.
4.
Thanks! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all wonderful people of Bascchat!...it's a pleasure being part of this great community.
+1 Have a good one Folks Enjoy your Xmas and here's to a great 2014 for everybody!

6. A massive +1 to all the above stories about the old WAL workshop in High Wycombe.. It was great customer service! WAL,Pete the Fish, Stuart and Paul were a great bunch who made me feel really welcome every time I went there.. In particular, WAL himself had a great sense of humour. Over the years, I remember trying out some of the unique WALs they had there, such as serial number 1111 and their first 5 and first 6 string models; there was no snobbery whereby trying things out was only the preserve of more well-known bassists. They always liked to get feedback from all their customers. I heard about 4 or 5 years ago that Stuart had a battle with throat-cancer but had come through it and was still doing work as a Luthier, which is good news.
7. This has got to be one of the best value cabs for sale on BC at the moment.. I'm surprised it's still here! GLWTS
8. Very interesting indeed! That's a fair price for the case by the way, Chris.. These very early ones do have a lot of kudos attached to them, hence their value. GLWTS
9. Fantastic cabs, these.. I've only just recently bought one and have been amazed by how good they sound in a gigging situation. I've been very loyal to my trusty old SWR Triad cab for 5 or 6 years, but this Schroeder cab has a unique design that projects your bass sound into a venue so well, it's astonishing! And what it does project is a really clear, punchy and full bass sound... GLWTS
10. My dream cab! Fortunately (or is that unfortunately?), your location and my back say 'NO'.. Best of luck with the sale though..
11. Great sounding bass and very groovy bass playing! GLWTS
12. +1 I had one of these and never really used it enough, because of playing 5 string basses more regularly. This one looks really cool though.. GLWTS Nick!
13. Very nice bass! I had a Tobias Classic 5 about 20 years ago and it sounded very much like this one; to my ears, a full, throaty kind of sound - it was a very funky bass.. GLWTS.
14. Try Parcel Monkey's DX Freight service.. I just used them to courier a heavy item and they were half the price of other courier quotes I had. Good service too..
15. Just bought a Schroeder cab from Kev which arrived today. What can I say about this deal.. Well, right the way through, Kev was a pleasure to deal with and made everything possible by being willing to package and ship the cab to me, even though he'd had a bad experience shipping a cab previously. Really knows his stuff too when it comes to cabs and gear generally, which was really helpful to me in making a decision to buy the cab. Suffice to say, the Schroeder arrived in the most bomb-proof packaging I've ever seen and I'm pleased to say it's in all in one piece and sounds great.. So, deal with Kev in complete confidence folks: I can't recommend him highly enough! Thanks Kev
16. Sold an OC3 pedal to Fraser.. Nice easy transaction and a great person to deal with. Cheers Fraser - I hope you enjoy the pedal. Nik
17. Hi Wal, Cool - would love to see the video! I'm sure Stew would be up for a gig at The Crown at some point.. I still use a 4 string as well, but I do like playing a fiver as well.. If you want to borrow one for a gig or two to try it out again, let me know? Nik
18. Played a charity gig last night in Littlehampton; it was celebrating the 20th anniversary of a band called 'Laughing Gravy' with all proceeds going to McMillan Cancer Support. See here: http://laughinggravy.info/ Basschat's very own 'bassninja', a.k.a. Wal, who started this thread back in 2007, is the bass player in Laughing Gravy and I have to say, it is always a joy to hear him play! Wal is one of the best players I've seen over the years - truly gifted and creative in his approach to playing the bass.. Another local Basschatter, Chimike popped down too, and I know he'd agree with what I've had to say about Wal's playing.. If you ever get a chance to check out Wal and the band play, then you must - you won't be disappointed! Also on the bill was John Bentley from Squeeze who played guitar last night as opposed to bass (http://www.johnbentl.../Blog39,40.html). John did a fine set which included on the drums for two songs, Woody Woodmansey - drummer in David Bowie's 'Spiders from Mars line up back in the early 1970s . It was just fantastic! ' The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' was the first album I ever bought when I was 11 years old, so to meet Woody and hear him play was a real privilege. I was playing with a local singer-songwriter/poet called Stewart Ross and we did about 20 minutes which went down well, so can't complain at all. Thanks Wal for the use of your rig and for inviting us to come and join your party - here's to your next 20 years with Laughing Gravy Nik
