1. Hi Folks, Just thought I'd share this story with you... Because of a recent house move where I can't store my present rig (Hughes & Kettner Bassbase 600 + SWR Triad) near the front of the house, I decided it was about time I investigated / invested in a lightweight rig.. Though I love the sound of my Triad in particular and have been very happy with the Bassbase head, at over 100lbs in weight collectively, it was no longer going to be possible to stick to my 'old skool heavyweight gear is best' mantra and keep gigging this rig. So, last weekend WalMan very kindly offered to lend me his GB Streamliner and Barefaced Super T for a gig I was doing, so that I could try out a lightweight rig for myself.. Though I've heard lots of Barefaced cabs and Class D amps at various bass Bashes over the least few years, I'd never had the chance to try any of them out in a proper gigging situation for myself, so I knew this was going to be interesting! Though thinking back, I remember Alex A/B-ing the Super T next to my Triad at the SE Bash 2 years ago and it sounded pretty impressive to my ears then... Well, even at home testing the rig out, it sounded fantastic, but at the gig it sounded great too with all my basses - RBV, BC Rich Eagle and Scheter Diamond P5.. I found my sound really quickly and was particularly impressed with the comments I got from the rest of the band, especially our drummer who has never before commented on the sound of my bass rig over the last 7 years of gigs together!! (maybe he just doesn't listen to me ) Even our guitarist commented on the rig, and that fact plus the band's absolute amazement when I carried the whole rig out by myself at the end of the night was about as conclusive as it could get! Anyway, the upshot of all this is that I've now put my Roscoe Beck 5 string up for sale so I can find a suitable lightweight rig for gigs.... I won't have enough cash for this particular rig, but I'm sure I'll find something out there that works for me... Thanks of course to Walman for the loan of his fab sounding rig! Nik
  2.
Good luck with your quest Marcus. I bought a brand new Wal custom on the old never never back in 1985 for £750. Didn't drink, drive or entertain any voluptuous females for 6 months whilst I paid it up with every penny I made. John Entwhistle even briefly played it on one of those bass centre bass weekend master class things. In a moment of absurd nonsensical halfwittery I swapped it for a brand new Jaydee supernatural - which subsequently developed a terminal neck back bow. It was a real dog of a bass. Almost 30 yrs on I still consider it the stupidest act of my life...and I have done some really stupid things!
Now that's a really sad story! I wish I'd kept a lot of basses that I sold in moments of absolute madness, including a leather scratchplate Wal that I sold for silly money in the late 90's! Sold it to a good friend and great bassist, but I still wish i hadn't!
  3.
Nice.
+ 1
  4.
That Blade is a lovely bass. I had that initially and wonderful sound and feel. I've been after a Roscoe for a long time, just wish I had the spare dosh for this. A real beauty. Good luck with the sale, someone is going to be very happy with this and hope you're enjoying the Blade
Thanks! The Blade is a really nice bass - not quite in the class of the RBV admittedly and it doesn't have the same versatility - but that's no surprise considering their relative value. I have had to stop playing the RBV now, otherwise I know I won't want to sell it when the right offer comes along!
  5. That's a real beauty Homer - a Clover I believe? Unfortunately, I need a lightweight rig at this point in time, not more basses.. In fact, I've just bought BassBunny's Blade B15 as a replacement for the RBV when it finally goes! So, I must ever so politely decline, good Sir!
  6.
Man, that's rough that you gotta part with it so soon... Healing vibes to you buddy
+1 Really sorry to hear you've got to sell Shaun! As has already been said, this is an amazing looking instrument, so someone is going to get a real beauty at a great price. Good luck with everything; the sale, another bass and most importantly, your health! Nik
  7. Just bought a Blade B15 from Stuart and I can only echoes the comments made above about him- he really is a fantastic person to deal with; great communications throughout, and really looks after and knows his gear! Not only that, his ability to package up a bass for uber-safe transit is definitely of OBE, Gold medal standard.. As I've said many times on Basschat, there are some fantastic people here on this forum who help to make it the unique place it is, and Stuart is one of those people! Thanks for the bass Stuart and I look forward to dealing with you again, All the best Nik
  8. Thanks again for the nice comments folks.. Jack - I sold the other one sometime ago, preferring this one for it's passive tonal range.. The bass weighs in at 4kg or approx 9lbs on my scales.. Nik
  9.
PM'd you..
And replied..
  10. Thanks for the kind comments folks! Yes NJE - I do believe this was yours at one time and also mr_russ and Happy Jack's too. I've had a trade offer on this already but sadly, this is a 'sale only' at this time as I need to get a new lightweight rig ASAP. Thanks Nik
  11. 'Barclaycard? Why, that'll do nicely...' Well, Arundel is only 4 miles away Marc, so just let me know when you're coming and I'll put the kettle on. Nik
  12. NOW SOLD: Thanks for looking Hi Folks Here for sale is my 1998 Fender Roscoe Beck 5 String; a stunning looking teal green model which is in 9/10 condition and is all original. Price/Trade Value: £995 o.n.o. I got this bass in a trade 3 years ago from Happy Jack and over the intervening period, this bass has served me really well... I've used it at lots of gigs and whatever rig I've used it with, it's sounded great! It also plays great too, having just been re-strung last week with Elixir Stainless Steel .45-.130s. Over the last few years on Basschat, I've always commented on how good these basses are whenever they come up for sale; this is the 3rd one I've owned so I should know.. And if it wasn't for the fact that I've just moved house and need to raise funds to buy a lightweight rig to make loading/unloading easier, I wouldn't be putting this up for sale at all. Tonally, the Roscoe Beck V does just about everything for me; P-Bass tones, J-Bass tones, modern double-humbucking tones, single coil tones, etc, etc, etc - all the classic bass sounds are here in one passive bass!! In terms of build quality, these basses are superb and for a 34" scale neck, the B string sounds fabulous!! Photos: Please PM me if you'd like to see hi-res versions of these and other photos I have of the bass. Here's the spec:

34" scale maple neck,with asymmetrical profile, Pau-ferro board,22 frets
2 x special humbuckers designed by Bill Lawrence,
Bridge specially made by Gotoh, with through body stringing
Controls
1 x volume,1 x tone with pull/push facility to reduce neck pick-up output by 20% in order get give those classic J-Bass tones
3 way selector switch for bridge, both, neck pickups.
2 x mini-toggle switch for single, series, parallel mode on each pick-up
Lots more info about the history and technical features of these basses can be found here: http://www.roscoebeck.com/profile.htm http://en.wikipedia....oscoe_Beck_Bass A few YouTube links here: Having said all of that, needs must, so it's here and ready to go... I think it goes without saying that I'd much rather this bass was collected in person, but I will ship it in a padded gig bag very securely packaged up if necessary. Alternatively, I would consider selling the case in the pictures for an extra £50 or so.. Plenty of Basschat 'chat', tea/coffee and other beverages on offer to anyone who wants a trip to Littlehampton on the south coast in order to come and view the bass first.. Price-wise, I think this is about right having looked at what other RBV's have gone for lately but if I'm way off, please drop me a line and we can discuss it.. Anyway, thanks for looking and any questions, feel free to PM me or ask here. Nik
  13. Withdrawn as a) I'd forgotten about this thread and have discovered that the pedal's too good to sell (having finally spent some time with it..)
  14. That sounds idyllic, Chris! best of luck with everything in July..
  15.
Thanks guys, Nik, hope all's well mate, Gary, you wouldn't get the full stereo through the 400+ mate, you'd need another 400+ as well as the 1516, Steve, I'm near Machynlleth, nothing wrong with copying Macca as long as you have a strong back or an understanding roadie C
I'm good thanks Chris! Still suffering too much valve amp GAS but, there you go - nothing new there! Hope all's well with you and the family in your new home? Nik
  16. I think I played and heard one of these basses some years ago when I met up with mybass who at the time was selling a Roscoe Beck V.. Though fretless is definitely not my thing, it was a very beautifully made instrument as I recall and a lovely tone too. GLWTS
  17.
I'd love to know how Dark Side of the Moon would have sounded through that setup! C
+1 Now, there's an idea... Would love this cab but age, car and recent house move sadly says 'NO' .. Good luck with it Chris!
  18. Only just seen this thread, but very happy to support it! Now - I just need to find something to sell...
  19. Good question Pete; that was on my mind too.. The Nanobass seems like a great unit, but I'm not quite sure how to use it, other than in a home studio set-up for example. But if it could be triggered by a B2M, that would be fantastic!
  20. Hi Folks I recently sold my Jolana short-scale bass to Dr Phibes, a.k.a. Rich.. Transaction went really well; fast payment and good communications throughout. So, I'm very happy to recommend Rich to one and all here on Basschat.. Nik
  21. Great looking bass! Good luck with the trade/sale...
