BC's new classifieds section - your opinions please
silverfoxnik replied to ped's topic in General Discussion
It's important that we get the BIG things right. Realistically there are VERY few problems on the sales forums as long as users check the T&Cs, and it's that loose vibe that makes it a natural extension of the forum. We're looking at implementing the subscription fee, one off fee and free listings section asap, so we'll probably hide the new classifieds section soon as to ease confusion. The transition has been a bit messy, but when we're working full time on top of this it's not going to be 100% smooth! As it stands I'm meeting bank people next week to set up a card payment system so those of you who don't use Paypal can use that (though you can also use a card through our paypal as it's a business version). So things are moving on. Thanks for all the detailed replies, it's given us a lot to discuss in terms of additional support as we go on with (hopefully) some cash to throw as the site. ped
Thanks ped - good to see things developing.. -
Unique, eccentric, knowledgeable legend, very sad he's gone. RIP Sir Patrick Moore
+1 Very sad news but I do hope the SAN continues in some form or other.
If Ped & Kiwi are not making a profit from running Basschat, then they bloody should be. That is not intended to be in any way humorous or sarcastic, I am being deadly serious. I like the idea of a future in which Basschat continues to exist, in much its current form, for a very long time. The best guarantee of that is if we can find a way to make this a more rewarding experience for them. I am constantly amazed at the number of posts right across this forum that assume that we all have a God-given right to enjoy Basschat for nowt. Single annual fee works best for me.
Agree with all of that Jack where the future of Basschat is concerned.. But equally...
So do we all like the sound of a single payment for a one off advert and the option of a single yearly payment? Of course - I suggested it yesterday morning in the other thread!
+1 to this idea as well! IMO, it's great to be included in the discussion around what's best for BC.. Where else do you get that kind of involvement? -
At this point in time, I still don't feel comfortable with the Classifieds section (yet) but think that Ped and all the BC team need to be supported through the process, while they try to get it right... with of course, constructive feedback from all of us who use the site regularly. It can't be easy to develop the site into a sustainable business that also retains it's sense of community (something we all value highly), especially when funds are clearly very tight. In terms of my own contribution, personally, I 'd be happy to pay an annual membership fee. Equally, I think some kind of charging system in the Classifieds section is fair, particularly if it's puts some kind of brake on those people who join the Forum just to sell something and then never contribute anything else to Basschat as a whole. My only proviso would be that, whatever format the Marketplace or Classifieds section ultimately takes, it should if possible retain / provide the ability for Basschatters to participate and generate in comment and discussion; it is a very valuable resource and one I've always looked to when buying/selling.. Anyway, isn't that why this place was called 'Basschat' in the first place!

Hi Mark This is beautiful looking instrument and it plays/sounds every bit as good as it looks! I've always liked W&T designs and this is one of their best IMHO.. Really interesting to hear your comments and Shep's observations about: "..my 'at-home-ness' on fretless that helped me gain some perspective on where I shine most as a player" as I think that's a question many of us never really get to grips with.. I'm currently debating with myself at the moment about whether i actually prefer playing and 'shine' more as a 4-string player.. Yet I've used 5 string basses consistently now for over 20 years! It must be really liberating to finally come to a decision on it.. Anyway, that's enough of me derailing your For Sale thread with my ramblings. All the best and good luck with the sale! Nik -
Thanks Nik I hope you're well mate, don't see you much on here these days!
Hi Nig, I'm okay though incredibly busy at work and at weekends, all of which cuts down my Basschat time sadly.. Always popping in to see what's in the For Sale threads but lately, I'm getting back into looking around the other threads, hence seeing your one.. Hope all well with you too! Nik -
Right. I'm back in wet UK from a gloriously sunny and beautiful Italy! The money will be divided: 1. - Cancer Research - £250 2. - Youth Music - £60 3. - Disabled People Against Cuts - £50 Many thanks again to all those who contributed to another enjoyable day. Colin
Great outcome Colin! Thanks so much for all your hard work on this btw - it is much, much appreciated. Here's to the next one.. Nik

Fabulous Nig; that ticks all the (musical) boxes for me - good song, great playing, and she has a lovely voice and it's always a pleasure to hear live strings! And you look as cool as ever btw! Nik -
Great thread! And really nice to see some of my favourite players mentioned.. Trevor Boulder (from his David Bowie days) Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper) John Gustafason (Roxy Music) Barry Adamson (Magazine) Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads) Leigh Gorman (Adam & The Ants/Bow Wow Wow) David Margen (Santana) George Murray (Bowie '75 to '80) These players and their basslines are part of my musical DNA for sure.. Have to agree also about Prince, and on that note, what about Stevie Wonder? Lastly; 51m0n - that's amazing about Joe Osbourne! I had no idea he played with these artists on these two tunes: America - Ventura Highway Art Garfunkel - I Only Have Eyes For You I love those two songs! Do you know if he played on America's 'Horse With No Name'?

Do You Play Your Bass Between Gigs?
silverfoxnik replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
I'd play every day if I could, but I never have enough time for that to happen... When I do have time, I really like playing along to a groove on a drum machine, as loudly as possible.. but that seems to annoy other people around me for some strange reason -
This is a flipping bargain, I've had a Mk1 TRB4 for around 20 years and it's brilliant, seen off a load of other basses that I've owned.

Thank you, someone who recognises how good a deal this is
Absolutely! The first bass I ever bought on this forum, back in 'Bassworld' days 6 years ago, was from Peter and it was for the same amount as this is for sale now.. It was a Yamaha TRB1005 and though it was a good bass, it's nowhere near as fine a bass as this one is! So this really is a good deal.. And, as has been said many times before, Peter looks after all his gear and is a real gentleman to deal with.. So buy with confidence! GLWTS Peter! Nik
It's too late, baby, it's much too late. The Basschat Moderator Rapid Response team is already in the Transit, tooled up, and en route ...
Good result too btw....

And the result is....?
Eagles are nice too.
+ 1 I've never liked headless basses, basses with LEDs or single-cut basses.. Sadly, I also finding myself disliking basses played/endorsed by bassists that I don't particularly like! Not a very mature or rational thought process I know, but it keeps my inner 'Victor Meldrew' happy! -
