I was hoping you'd think so. Here's a story from the Independent that does a pretty good job of covering the issue(s). This guardian article is somewhat shorter, but focuses well on the benefits decisions that have outraged disabled people. The best organisation that I can find for a donation is DPAC (Disabled people against cuts): http://www.dpac.uk.net/ I started to write a rant against ATOS and DWP here but thought better of it. Just read the Independent article, please. All I'll say is I've witnessed first hand the distress this whole situation causes. Andy
Had a look at this and it looks worthwhile.. Are there any other good causes people want to suggest we donate to? -

Oops... Glad I found this thread I have a couple of items to put in the raffle; will dig them out later and update this post.. Definitely a better idea to reduce the number of tickets Colin; last year's Raffle seemed to go on till Xmas!
All workshops sound great - I'd quite like to bring my laptop/Ableton set up but it does involve quite a bit of gubbins (leads/boxes etc) and I won't be able to bring an amp - but if I could borrow an amp would I be able to use the house PA in the theatre bit? I'm not sure exactly how instructive I can be but Ableton is such a great tool for composing, jamming and performing I'd be quite up for plugging in and showing what it can do - not sure how much people already know or if they're interested but I've only taken this stuff out a couple of times so far so it'd be fun to get all set up - others could plug in too... let me know what you think Otherwise I'll just loiter about Cheers Mike
Hi Mike This sounds great - what kind of amp do you need?
Back to pur favourite gig in Chichester last night. First set a bit thin on the ground, but the second they went ape. It's quite a small & odd shaped gig with a small stage that I am off. Second set the crowd were mad & bouncing into everything, but it was a nice way to finish before my hols. We've started doing Highway Star, but with two guitars & no keys so one guitarist emuates the keys solo & the other Mr B with both harmonising at the end of it. Felt hellish fast last night (though that was probably adrenaline) but it is really shaping up quite nicely. A few fluffs but all pretty minor. Didn't have any decent gaffa tape for my pick hand fingers, so the first knuckle on the third finger (next to lil pinkie) is totally shredded to **** today. Still it was worth it. Eventually stopped @ 12:15 having aimed @ midnight. Home by two. While we were packing up one of the barmaids said to the WAG's waiting for us "So girls tea or coffee?" and while we packed up they had a little tea party in the corner. Very refined
That's Chichester for you Al!

The Producer's: Trevor Horn "Two Tribes" bassline
silverfoxnik replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Complete bollocks. Two Tribes existed as a song long before FGTH were involved with Trevor Horn and ZTT.
+1 Story I heard on this many years ago is that the original FGTH band were big fans of Bow Wow Wow and that the bass line from 'Pleasure Dome' is a bit of a steal from a bassline in a song called 'Elimination dancing' by Bow Wow Wow (written and played by the amazing Leigh Gorman).. I love the FGTH album and have always thought Trevor Horn is an amazing producer, but there are some similarities.. See what you think: recorded version: Live version: -
First proper gig last night without our keyboard player, who has finally emigrated to Australia.. For various reasons, it took him nearly 2 years to get his move sorted so we've been in gigging limbo for most of that time.. Anyway, in advance of him going, I've been experimenting with a 2 bass rig set-up for a while now - one rig for the pure bass sound and one for bass FX, which I'm using to add more interesting sounds now we're down to being a 4 piece. Running my bass into a Hughes & Kettner Bassbass 600 head through an SWR Triad, and then DI'ing out of that into my Boss ME50B straight into a Peavey Mark IV head into an SWR 212... Not the easiest set-up to lug around I know, but it sounded pretty good; plenty of clean, solid bass tone through the H&K head and then, having the facility to mix in the FX as and when needed without losing any low end (which has always been my worry when using lots of FX). We were playing the Rockin' the Barn Festival in Southwick near Brighton, along with the awesome KXB band and 80's rockers Iron Tyger.. The place was packed and the crowd were very enthusiastic, so all good from that point of view and the stage/PA/lights were a real treat after most of pub gigs we do. Don't think I'll really know whether the 2 rigs idea really works until I've done some more gigs with it, but it was a lot of fun to try.. So, potential back problems aside - here's to the next one!
Not sure if you count this as relevant to the Paralympics but given the shocking way this government is treating disabled people ( via the DWP and it's contractor ATOS, ironically, an Paralympics sponsor ) I'd suggest putting some funds towards the campaign to sort that out. I'll see if I can find a relevant charity, and links to something that sums up the awful situation.
Thanks; good call btw.... -

Other issues: Jam Room: we do need a drummer for this; Jack - is Paul available?? Raffle: I suggest we start a different thread, so will do that later or tomorrow as I have a gig today.. Charities to donate to: As the Paralympics has been so amazing IMO, would anyone like to donate some of what is raised to a related Paralympic cause? Other suggestions of worthy causes most welcome though. Workshops suggested /offered so far: 1. Dubstep masterclass - Jake Newman 2. Vocal Workshop - Mcgraham 3. Bass Synth workshop - Mcgraham 4. Recording/Studio related stuff - 51m0n 5. An FX workshop = any takers? 6. A/B ing basses and amps workshop - any suggestions?? Ok, that's it for now, look forward to your thoughts & suggestions! Hello Folks Apologies to one and all because I've not been that well lately and that, plus being so busy at work, has meant I've not had any time really to worry about the Bash ahead of time like I have done previously.. So, it's been great today having a read of the thread to see what's been happening - all looking good! There's quite a lot to try and get finalised still but with 3 weeks to go, I'm sure everything will be fine.. I'm going to split things that need addressing up onto some different posts now and if we could use those to comment on the individual issues, that'd be great? Thanks and look forward to seeing you in 3 weeks! Nik -

Hi Folks I recently sold an Ibanez SRX705 to Rob aka 'tobythedog' and can happily vouch for the fact that Rob is a complete joy to deal with, so deal with him with confidence. As well as making communications really easy, Rob was also very, very patient in waiting almost a month for his new Ibanez bass to arrive, because I was ill for almost a 2 week period, just after he'd paid for it.. So thanks for everything Rob and welcome to Basschat - hope you're enjoying it here and that you enjoy the bass! Nik

I've also had the pleasure of playing this bass, back in January when I lasted visited 'Happy Jack Towers'.. Jack's comment about it having real 'presence' is absolutely spot-on. This bass has a depth and richness of tone that is lovely; adjectives more likely to be used to describe the qualities of cellos or DBs perhaps.. And I have to say, that's in quite stark contrast to the Wal 5 I had back in the early '90s, which was of a similar vintage and which I never liked. I ended up moving that one on quite quickly. Oh, and just in case it hasn't been said already, buying and trading basses and bass gear with Jack is always a complete pleasure.. To any prospective buyers I'd say make sure you have a few hours spare so you can relax and enjoy not only the new bass you're after, but also some really fascinating 'bass chat' in Jack's company! Good luck with the sale Jack..
