South East Bass Bash Year 4, Surrey, 27th November 2010
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
I had an enjoyable day too - although I was pretty tired by 6pm! Here's the final score on the doors: Entry money - £370 Raffle - £135.35 Tea, coffee & cakes - £29.50 Profit = £534.85 Cost of venue hire - £230 Clear profit to charity = £305 This will be split between The Kambia Appeal (kambia.org.uk) - supporting a hospital in Sierra Leone (Si did his thing on their last web site), and, The Samaritans (samaritans.org) The school principle - Gareth Balch, is very kindly donating the venue hire fee to the school's adopted charity, - The African Childrens Choir - http://africanchildrenschoir.com/ So, every penny raised - £535 - goes to charity! - I'm very pleased!, and well done to all who chipped in and contributed to an enjoyable day in numerous ways! Colin
Hi Folks Hamster sent me a couple of emails regarding the payments to the charities... So the quick update is that, with Gift Aid, The Kambia Appeal received £243.91. And The Samaritans received £105..That makes a total of £348.91 to our nominated charities. Add in the £230 to the school's charity and the total donated to charity from the 4th SE Bass Bash is £578.91. A big thanks again to one and all and also thanks to Hamster for taking care of the monetary side of things.. Nik -
How many different Basschat Bass Bashes are there?
silverfoxnik replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
I think that Birmingham, or near there, would make sense..and in general I think it's about time another one happened..though some people may feel that having a local one is more than enough. Likewise, I'm up for talking about it with anyone who's interested in helping make it happen. -
I got asked by a Basschatter at this bash if I had any Bass T-shirts in 5XL size. I'm afraid I didn't note his name. Can someone suggest who that was so I can give him some news please? Thanks, Phil
Got to say, I really like my T-shirt Phil!! Might have to get a couple more at some point... -
Hey Alex - really enjoyed the sound of your cabs with the GB 6.0 - great pairing. I can't believe this was just a week ago the snow seems to have sent the country into a timewarp. Nick - got any more pics off your phone yet? Do upload them when you can, it really was a super cool day. Cheers Mike
Hey Mike Did you get your scarf by the way? Just waiting for my new Blackberry to arrive, then I'll be able to upload some of the pics I took on the day Nik -

I agree with Happy Jack; let's have a national bash and invite a couple of big names.. At the Northampton Bash, there was a bar which provided a great opportunity to get away from the basses and just have a chat. -

Hi Folks Just wondering how many different Bass Bashes organised by Basschatters are now taking place, or have taken place, up and down the country? The ones I've been to or have been involved in are: South East Bass Bash (4 so far) National Bass Bash (Northampton, 1 so far) South Coast mini-bash (1 so far) I know there's been a London Bash, a West Country Bash..the East Anglia one's coming up etc, etc..but overall - how many are there? if you've been to one or have been involved in running one, please let me know? Thanks Nik -
Is a compressor of any real value in fast rock music?
I think you should talk to 51m0n on the subject of compressors. He convinced me Here is 51m0n:
And + 1 for talking to 51m0n; the sound I'm now getting from my DBX compressor is just amazing thanks to him helping set it up for me at the SE Bash a week or so ago...! -

Very warm sounding amps IMO..Had a Nemesis NA 650 and now have the Metro.. Overall, I'm very happy as the feature set in both cases is excellent and the sound suits me down to the ground. The only things that the Metro doesn't really give is any kind of over-driven valve sound. As with all these things though, best try to hear one with your own bass first if you can..
Interestingly the latest BGM that came throught the letterbox this morning has a feature and review on compressors. Also I retrieved my dbx163a from the garage. It's only got one knob and a slider so Isuppose that means it will have to go.
...what else have you got lurking in that garage Dave...? The Orange head, this DBX etc, etc..Seems to me like it's a bit of an Aladdin's Cave! -

Just need to set a date for the venue with Hamster...then announce it in Jan 2011 so we can all get it in our diaries nice and early! -

BUMP for an amazing bass that totally defies your expectations! Along with the Fodera Jazz on Born2bMild's stand (also lovely) , this is one of the few basses I got a chance to play at the SE Bash yesterday... And though it looks like a very boutique, 'hi-fi' sounding bass, it is so much more than that! It has a really simple e.q. system that gives you a huge variety of tones without any effort at all..Plays beautifully too and the build quality is truly exceptional. Not possible for me to buy sadly, but at this price I have to say that I think it's a real steal! Good luck with the sale Jack
Sorry, chaps. After having been packed and ready last night, something's come up and I'm going to have to bail out last minute today. Have fun and I look forward to the photos. Please could you add my Drums on Demand Vol 1 drum tracks to the raffle. I'll post it to the winner. These are gear real drum loops in 24 bit WAV format. See drumsondemand.com. They come in at around £30.
Hi Folks Sean - sorry but i didn't see your post until this morning! Please could we offer your donation to Simon1964 if he'd be interested in it as he did have a winning ticket but there wasn't a prize we knew he wanted..? So, I had a gig last night after the Bash and it a real joy as a result of 5im0n sorting out my DBX compressor for me - had an absolutely awesome sound at long last! Thanks mate.. And thanks not only to Si, but also Mr Lager, Urb and Alex for their workshops too. They were all brilliant and this comment below says everything to me about them.
Huge thanks to the organisers - I believe my steep learning curve just got a little shallower thanks to the workshops. Great stuff - look forward to the next!
Next year, I wonder if we should hold the workshops in a manner where people actually have a bass with them, so they are slightly more interactive? Thanks also to Hamster (Colin) for dealing with all the financials and Mrs Hamster (Sarah) for all their hard work in terms of the venue & refreshments etc! Plus thanks to WalMan, Kraken etc all the others who helped get set-up in the morning.. In terms of the 'beyond the call of duty' awards, I've got to mention Born2Mild (Phil) for travelling all the way from the frozen North to be there and of course, Happy Jack for being there despite his injury/operation & Paul for coming to do the drums for us..! I've got some photos and when I've worked out how to get my Blackberry working with my computer again, I'll upload them. Thanks to all who came and to those who donated to the Raffle, which has helped raise money for good causes - especially ones that mean something to Old Git and his family! As has already been said, RIP Si!
