Nik is a top guy to deal with so buy with confidence :0)
Thanks Gary! It is a beautiful bass indeed and I wish I could keep but but right now, cash is king! Anyway, hope all's well with you.. Nik
2.
First link has been abbreviated to death. Am I right in thinking this is a portable valve bass amp, albeit a very low powered one?
Thanks... Link fixed! It can be used as a portable practice amp and though it's only 5 watts, it makes a very good sound for home practicing.. But where it really comes into it's own though is as a pre-amp! Sounded great through my Eden Metro & SWR Triad I have to say
3. Thanks for all the interest Folks, but the bass is now SOLD! Hi Folks Bit of a dilema for me here which is forcing this sale... To explain briefly, my main gigging bass is a Fender Roscoe Beck 5 string with an Aguilar OB-3 pre-amp which is absolutely great! But I always like to have a back up 5 string of comparable quality and at the moment, I have two very good basses to choose from in that department. First is a passive Roscoe Beck 5 and the second is this gorgeous looking USA Jazz 5 string Standard, that's been very well upgraded by it's previous owner (Gary Williams) with a Badass Bridge and some custom wound Aero pick ups, new pots and a pearloid scratchplate! Soundwise, it's a naturally very resonant bass and I know that Gary looked for a long time before buying to find such a fine example of a lightweight yet resonant bass.. By adding the Aeros and new pots it's really got some attack - think Tower of Power/Rocco Prestia and you're in the right kind of sonic area! But by rolling the tone control back and favouring the neck pick up, there's plenty of warm, vintage Fender tones in there too! It's the only bass I've ever used at a gig (apart from a Lakland DJ5 I once had) that our guitarist has ever commented on and luckily, he thinks it's a real stunner (as do I). It's a 34" scale neck with an excellent low B string by the way and is in 9.5/10 condition and plays beautifully (19mm at the bridge by the way). As I understand it, this finish is no longer available either... The reason I'm selling this right now instead of the passive Roscoe Beck is that I've decided to stick with two 5 strings that are virtually identical apart from the Aguillar pre, and I've bought an Aguillar Tone Hammer to sort that out..So it's this one that has to go sadly! So, if possible, I'd like to get £750 o.n.o. for this bass and i think that's a fair price given the substantial upgrades it's had done to it! I don't have any soundclips I'm afraid but if you're local and you'd like to come and check it out, you'd be very welcome. And I'm happy to post via the insured carrier of your choice...but it will be very well packed!! Any more questions, please PM me or get in touch here.. Thanks for looking! Nik
4. Hi Folks, These pick ups, scratchplate & pots came from a Fender USA Standard 5 Jazz Bass (2004) and are in excellent condition.. I no longer have the bass they came from or another Jazz to use them in, so they are surplus to requirements.. Prices as shown plus p&p. 1) Pick ups: £30 o.n.o. 2) Pots (Vol/Vol/Tone): £5 3) Scratchplate: £10 Any questions, please feel free to PM me or ask here.. Thanks for looking! Nik Photos:
5. Hi Folks, **** SOLD **** I'm having a bit of a clearout of my 'overstocked' bass gear cupboard and so have this H&K valve pre-amp/5 watt valve power-amp for sale at £120 + p&p o.v.n.o.. The brief history is that I bought it from Gillento back in February for a couple of reasons; 1) because I'd always wanted to try out what the H&K valve sound is like (in absence of having one of their amps) 2) to use with my passive 5 string Roscoe Beck bass to give it a boost so it matches the output of my active Roscoe Beck I have to say that I love the sound of it, especially with a passive bass..but for whatever reasons, the guys in my band just don't like the sound when I've gigged it, preferring the much cleaner sound I get going straight into my Eden Metro Combo!??! Bizarre as that is, I've tried it out at 5 gigs now and still not won them over...so I've decided to keep the Aguillar Tone Hammer I also bought at a similar time and see if there's anyone else here on Basschat who wants to give this H&K a try? Otherwise, it'll just be sitting here gathering dust.. There's more info on it here: http://87.106.71.220/files/huke/alt/batt-b...Master-BATT.PDF and a review or two here: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...r/B.A.T.T./10/1 "Very intuitive bass preamp/recording amp. There is a gain knob and a master knob, as well as a general "tone" knob. You can get a huge range of very usable sounds just by turning these knobs. It also has three boost buttons (bass, mid, treble) that do exactly what you expect. There are several different outputs, depending on whether you are running it into a mixer, amp, etc. A diagram on top of the unit explains each option very clearly. It has a tube preamp section (12ax7) and a power amp section (el84). When recording, you can run through the tube power amp or bypass it by pushing a switch. ...The B.A.T.T. provides a beefy bass tone that sits perfectly in the mix; I rarely have to EQ the bass after recording. By comparison, my prior bass recordings sound weak and fuzzy. The B.A.T.T. can do any bass sound you want, from tube-y to solid state, from clean to overdriven. " It's in good condition bearing in mind it's age I think.. Am very happy if anyone wants to come and give it a try (am based in Littlehampton, West Sussex) and to try to answer any questions that I can here or via PM.. Shipping isn't a problem but i would suggest that the valves are packed seperately in transit and that it is sent via insured post. For an extra £15 I am happy to sell it with the Ashdown LG1000 bag (as shown), which fits it quite nicely. Cheers Nik (More photos available on request)
6. I played this bass last year when Happy Jack still had it and it's a fabulous sounding instrument that plays very nicely indeed! If it wasn't for the relatively narrow string spacing (compared to what I'm used to at 19mm) I would be very interested in it myself... IIRC, the bass had lots of tonal versatility without sounding in any way like it's the circuitry that's doing all the work, if that makes sense. Quite a unique story to it as well, so on top of having a superb bass you'd also be owning a piece of british bass-making history!
7.
Correct - my mistake! Jeez, I wish.....
+1
8. Great looking bass at a very good price so I'm not surprised this has gone already!!
9. Nice looking bass Al! Just to say to anyone interested, apart from being a really fine bass player, Al's a great guy to deal with and completely upfront..so you can so deal with him in complete confidence... Good luck with the sale!
10. Gorgeous!! I had a 1984 Tokai that was lovely so can appreciate these from that point of view..
11. A friend of mine bought a Peavey 210 TVX from Steve tonight for her daughter, so i just thought I'd leave some feedback for Steve on their behalf as they're not Basschat members. The cab sounded great being driven by a Peavey Max 700 head (that is for sale on here at the moment) and a '78 P Bass (which I assume is not for sale ever) and as well as that, the cab was in virtually showroom condition!! Steve's a very easy person to deal with and his gear is really well looked after, so you can deal with him with absolute confidence I'd say! Thanks Steve and good luck with shifting the rest of the rig...
12. Heard this head in action tonight and as well as the fact that it sounded really good with a '78 P bass..going into a Peavey 210 TVX (which my friend bought)...it is in virtually showroom condition!! What's more, Steve is a very easy person to deal with and his gear is really well looked after. So if you want what the Yanks call 'Bang for your Buck' then this has got to worth investigating!
13.
Checked the Speaker and there isn't any info at all as to Impedance and Power Rating. Have contacted Carlsbro Support for the answer and will post as soon as I know. Guy i spoke to is pretty sure it is a 150W 8 Ohm Carlsbro Powertone speaker which he is sure are made for Carlsbro by Celestion. he has gone off to confirm.
Ok, thanks!
14.
It is a Carlsbro Bass Bomber. Dimensions (HxWxD)mm: 650 x 540 x 345 Will have to remove the speaker to check, but I believe it is a Carlsbro Powertone 150W. Not sure of impedance, will have a butcher's tommorow.
Thanks! A friend is looking for a seperate cab to run with a 210 so this might be ideal..
15. What are the spec on this; cab size, power rating, resistance etc?
