1. *** Thanks for all the interest - this is now SOLD! *** Hi Folks, I bought this head from James (Moos3h) last December, thinking it'd make a great lightweight back-up amp for gigs, especially as it's designed in such a way that it has two output stages each capable of delivering 500w into 4 ohms..meaning you can use two 4 ohm cabs with it (which I have done and it's great!). However, our gigging schedule is being significantly reduced this year now for a number of reasons, so I don't really need this on top of my Eden rig and an old Peavey head! So I thought I'd offer it up for sale here to see if anyone's interested? It's only a few months old, comes with warranty, original packaging, rack ears and a neat little gig bag that'll carry it and the cables very easily. I paid £170 for it including the gig bag, so I'd be happy to let it go for £185 + p&p, but that's including two speakon cables (one is an OBBM cable) which you will need for it as it doesn't have jack sockets. I think that's a fair price for the amp and all the extras, especially as the cheapest new price for just the head is about £249 at online shops like Soundslive/Electromusic etc. Soundwise, it's effectively a Trace Elliott head, with a decent graphic, typical Trace pre-set e.q switch, a deep switch that is very useable indeed and 1000 watts to play with.. However, to enjoy all that power, you'll need to be able to drive the input stage quite hard and that is one of the things that didn't work so well for me, as my main gigging bass (a Roscoe Beck 5) has a very low pickup output.. But overall, the sound is very good and of course, it's a very compact piece of kit! Here's some pics: Am happy to post it (with p&p and insurance at your expense), plus I am happy for people to come and try it out first which is obviously better to do if possible. I know there's lots of great gear for sale on here at the moment and money is tigher than tight, so I'll give this a week or so here before considering Evil Bay. In the meantime, fire away with any questions here or just PM me. Thanks for looking... Nik

  3. This doesn't look too bad... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp..._210_combo.html
  4.
Absolutely stunning bass you have there - congrats. Any to think it was a surprise Christmas present...
+1 Wonderful workmanship..the neck joint and binding particularly!
  5.
Many thanks Nik, the nice thing about giving lessons to guys like you and the others on here is getting to meet some nice people so the pleasure is mine as much as you guys' I am going to post an exercise in theory and technique which is the arpeggio and scale exercise I mentioned (and showed you) in the lesson. so look out for that. It will hopefully act as an aide memoir to what we discussed about chord sequences as it is all the chords of a major scale laid out. Look forward to the next one. Jake
Hi Jake You're welcome! Ok, will check that out later on, Cheers Nik
  6.
Bobby Vega is probably my favourite pick player. Not that much of him on youtube but he's one of the few guys that can really groove with a pick...
That's funky as hell!! Never heard of him before but will check out what else he's done now... As far as picks go, I use Dunlop 0.73s & 0.88s and they work really well for me in a lot of different styles. Having part of the pick serated, so that you can actually hold onto it properly is the most important thing - there's nothing worse than a pick that slides out of your hand whilst you're playing!
  7.
I tried but they cooked the firmware
Your brain obviously has a very high 'output'!
  8.
Well I am pleased to confirm that I've just had a cracking first session on the DB with Jake. Very laid back but well structured lesson, we seemed to cover an awful lot but the time just flew by.......can't wait to get hold of my DB to practice the stuff in prep for my next leson in Dec. Anyone thinking or dithering about having lessons, go speak with Jake and I'm sure that you'll be as impressed as I am. Loads of useful tips, not just on DB but music 'theory' as well. Well worth the effort of tackling the M4 on a Monday morning. Cheers Jake, see you in Dec!!!!
+1 I can wholeheartedly echo these sentiments! I was privileged to have a first lesson with Jake yesterday and it was an absolute joy! For me, I was looking to find some inspiration with my playing after doing much the same thing for the last 30 years or so. In particular, I was hoping to learn some new musical theory - like modes for example - in order to enhance my rather limited musical vocabulary which is still rooted in my learning of TAB blues basslines back in the '70s. Having watched Jakes workshop at the SE Bash last October, I was particularly impressed by how deep his musical knowledge was, how passionate he is about music and how aware he is that bass playing is not so much about technical ability (or 'facility' as he calls it) but more that it's about learning to communicate and express yourself whilst playing. Add to that a shared love of stuff like Cole Porter, James Jamerson and of beautiful, understated simplicity in bass playing such as demonstrated by masters like Jimmy Johnson etc, etc, and I knew that Jake would be the right sort of person to approach for help.. So I got in touch at the turn of the year and was all prepared to travel up to Aldershot for a few lessons when amazingly, Jake PM'd me to say that he had a gig in Littlehampton (where I live) and we could do the first lesson here; how lucky is that!! Suffice to say I learnt a lot in a very short space of time and it's made me even hungrier to learn more. I also felt very inspired by talking about music and bass playing in such detail to the point that not only am I ultra-keen for the next lesson, which will hopefully be in March, but I'm even looking forward to doing my 'homework'! Many thanks Jake - it was a real pleasure! And just to say again, that Alembic is absolutely stunning!! Nik
  9.
Pete, Enfield & Barnet? Is that like Crosby Stills and Nash? bever mind. I've been drinking
10. Forget the bass and buy the 'Carry On Camping' VHS behind it!!
  11. Great thread! Nig - do you put your thread ideas through a POD as well?? Not sure if any of this matters in an absolute sense really, since we all play the bass in a unique way and use our amps/effects etc so differently. I heard Ped's V-Bass set up at the SE Bash and it was very impressive, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if ten different bass players used it and they all managed to make it sound different, even though it's a digital piece of kit. At the Bash it was brilliant to hear how wonderful just a solo double-bass could sound (as played by Jake or Bassace) and great to hear Ped's versatile V-Bass set-up doing a zillion and one things.. We literally have the world at our fingertips these days!
  12. Nice thread Jake and yes, you have some fabulous gear.. Look forward to the next update! Always liked Strongroom myself actually, though it's some years since I've been in there..
  13.
Congratulation, very nice, hopefuly you are now GAS free.
+1 Don't be silly though..there's no such thing as GAS free. Congrats Clarky!!
  14.
Sometimes we have to throw out the rulebooks and just try something out of the blue...
+1 Nice one Chris; good to hear a happy outcome after that PJ fiasco!
  15.
What he said, Andy Coughlan with a modified Wal Pro with tremelo. I believe Pino did record the album track and this video looks like footage from Numan's White Noise live album (or around that time).
+1 Andy doesn't quite have the same bouyant hairstyle these days, but his bass playing is fabulous!
  16.
didn't Pino play on the album that song's from though? Surely Numan would make sure the Welsh master of the low end could get on his live tour if he featured on the album they're touring just a thought! James
Andy did some of the records as well, and was with Numan for some years. As for Pino, I've no idea..but that's definitely Andy & his Wal Pro 1. Besides, Pino didn't use Wals as far as I can remember..
  17. It's not Pino... That's actually a good mate of mine called Andy Coughlan playing a Wal Fretless Pro 1.. He also has a couple of other very nice Wals in his kit bag as well, including one he calls 'Old Bluey' because it's a special one off light-blue colour. A fantastic player, these days Andy does a lot of double-bass work, but he still does a lot of gigs with his Wals, including Cerys Matthews amongst others.
  18.
They most certainly are. I wonder who's idea it was to form a band with just the uncool instruments?
19.
Enfield/Barnet? Was hoping for something a bit more, well, London.
When I lived there Pete, Enfield & Barnet were very much 'London', albeit a bit suburban.. Perhaps we should see if Her Majesty will hire out a room in Buck Palace for an afternoon?
  20. Hi Folks Just learning this song but haven't found a decent TAB online that seems to fit the song chords, especially in the chorus. I have tried 911tabs, Ultimate-Guitar Tabs as well as Bassmasta, but none of them seem to have a really good, definitive version.. I think it's one of those basslines that was written & recorded on a synth, which might explain why I'm having particular trouble with it? So, if anyone's got a TAB version of it that they can share or any clues on it generally, i'd be very grateful! Cheers Nik
  21.
If you want a school than I can ask my daughter what's available in her area - she's a teacher in Barnet at a nice little school. Good location, just off the North Circ & walking distance from Arnos Grove tube or New Southgate overground.
I lived in that area (Southgate/Winchmore Hill/Enfield) for 30 years, so that brings back some memories.. If you end up holding the Bash around there, I'll definitely come up for it! I remember the Arnos Grove rehearsal room too; last used it about 4 years ago having a jam with a couple of mates who still live in the area. Going completely off-topic, I still have very fond memories of those old 1930s tube stations out that way...Southgate especially!
  22. They look so cool - well done!! You should definitely make & sell them; Basschat is a good place to start promoting that kind of idiosyncratic & individual product..
  23. Small contribution made Jack. I hope that the family finds a way to bring their son home...
  24. Very unique collection of basses!! Being a bit of a traditionalist, I really love the look of the Sadowsky, but the Ritter and the Kennedy certainly have a 'wow' factor' about them!
