Just heard this... Such awful news. 😢 https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/jan/28/tom-verlaine-frontman-and-guitarist-of-us-band-television-dies-at-73?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_OtherL One of the most influential yet underrated 'greats' IMHO. Time to put on Marquee Moon at full volume and pay my respects. RIP Tom.

Hi Folks, Uber-cool, 600 watt Aguilar DB212, 4 ohm cab for sale in very fetching monster green tolex. Asking price is now £Now SOLD Bass Direct had a second-hand one for sale at £1299 last year, so I think this is priced about right. (https://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Aguilar_DB212.html) Sound/condition etc: This is a high-quality serious piece of kit that's in very good internal and external condition and sounds amazing.. Think deep, rich bass, tones with plenty of mids and top end clarity. Sonically, it has great authority - you really do feel every note with this cab! Very sensibly, it comes with really sturdy casters which make it much easier to move around. Links: YouTube and Talk Bass links here: Talk Bass: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/aguilar-db212-midrange.816660 Location /collection etc: I'm based in Potton, which is on the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire borders. For obvious reasons, I'd much prefer to sell the cab to someone who's able to come and check it out in person and collect it there and then. Having said that, local delivery within 30 miles could be an option, or insured shipping (at additional cost obviously). Whatever, I'm happy to discuss options with anyone who's seriously interested. Thanks for looking and if you have any questions, please PM me, or ask away here. Cheers Nik DB212 Features/Spec: •Two 12" cast frame woofers, 56 oz. magnet •Phenolic tweeter with integral phase plug •Custom crossover with variable tweeter control •Deep robust handles •13 ply Baltic Birch Specifications •Feet: Rubber •Inputs: 1 x Neutrik Speakon, 2 x 1/4" Jack •Power Handling: 600 watts RMS •Frequency Response: 41 Hz - 16 kHz •Sensitivity: 98 dB 1W 1M •Impedance: 4 ohms •Dimensions: 24.75" (H) x 24.5" (W) x 17.375" (D) •Weight: 31.75Kg

*** Now SOLD *** Hi Folks, *** This fabulous amp is now back up for sale after a recent Basschat sale fell through due to the amp suffering some minor internal damage whilst in Parcelforce's non-existent care!! Happily, that minor damage has been professionally repaired now by the brilliant Mick Newman at MC Electronics in Bedford and the amp is back in full working order, having been given a clean bill of health by Mick. *** So, "Seconds out, Round 2" .. 😁 For sale only, 1 x Handbox R400 bass amp in very good condition and excellent working order (see attached photos). I'm looking for £450 or very near offer. Backstory is that it was previously owned by @Captain Rumble until it came to me in a trade in 2021. Bit of a feeler this one tbh as it's a great amp, but I have not really been using it as I tend to always gig my Mesa Boogie gear. Anyway, I guess if you're reading this, you'll know already what a great reputation these amps have for superb sound, superior build quality and fantastic design principles - as I think someone said on here recently, they're a 'future classic!' And all of that is true really - for such a portable and easy to use piece of kit, the R400 packs a fabulous sonic punch! Should you want to know more, here's a link to the Handbox webpage: http://www.handbox.pl/R-400-MINI-HEAD-p142.html And there's a link to an excellent demo of these amps by our very own @wateroftyne - who I think it's fair to say, has been (quite rightly) championing Handbox for a number of years now. And there's plenty more good stuff (reviews, vids, discussion etc) online about the R400, including this Basschat mega thread here: I'm based in Potton, Bedfordshire and would much prefer to sell the amp to someone who's able to collect in person for the reasons stated above. Alternatively, I'd be happy to arrange a meet up in person within an hours drive from me.. Trials welcome obviously, with the obligatory Basschat tea/coffee /biscuits offer to friendly Basschatters! 😁☕ Thanks for looking and if you have any questions, please PM me, or ask away here. Cheers Nik

I had one of these cabs for a while about 12, 13 years ago. It sounded pretty good to me and was great for rehearsals and small pub gigs at the time.

Aways admired the way Jeff Beck pushed himself musically - never standing still, trying out new styles, working with a diverse sets of musos. All signs of a creative musician IMHO. More than that though, he was such an exciting guitar player!! RIP 😔

Good shout Chris! I've been a Radio 6 fan for about 10 years now... Personal favourites are Guy Garvey and Cerys Matthews on Sunday afternoon. Iggy and Tom Robinson are great too. And, when I'm in the mood for some funky music and great bass lines, Craig Charles is always a good listen on Saturday evenings.. It's so obvious I think, that no one ever really talks about it, but having really talented musicians /singers curate and present their own radio shows is an absolute no-brainer! Give me that any day over the facile, smug, self-serving 'DJs' that have dominated music radio for decades.

Just reposting what I said on the other Tobias Classic 5 for sale thread as it applies here just the same.. 'I had a Tobias Classic 5 back in the early 90s and it was a beautifully crafted instrument that just 'sang' when you played it. It was, I think, the most resonant bass I've ever owned and sounded amazing. The only reason I sold it was the string spacing, which was a bit too narrow for my stubby fingers... This one looks like a gorgeous example - GLWTS! 😊'

PRICE DROP £500 : VANDERKLEY 15MN6 BASS CAB - SUPERB!
silverfoxnik replied to Jhrox's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
These are fantastic cabs! Beautifully made, superb design and surprisingly good in a variety of different musical settings. In 3 different bands, I used mine playing everything from Motown to aggressive rock/indie tunes, and it worked really, really well. And it worked really well with a variety of different heads - solid state /hybrid/all valve. GLWTS- 4 replies

Another interesting Basschat discussion that will undoubtedly revolutionise the way we think about online discussions in years to come... 😉 Back on topic, my thoughts on The Beatles have quietly been changing throughout my adult life, not that I was really aware of it happening, it's kind of been a subconscious thing. The older I've got and the more music I've made and played over the years, I've slowly come to the realisation that if you either like your music or play your music made with strings, skins and microphones, then The Beatles are the reference point in western pop music. That doesn't mean they have to be liked by anyone/everyone as writers, performers, producers, people etc - but it's just a fact that their influence and reach is unparalleled and can be quantified through record sales, statistics, books/articles/study course about them etc. Personally, they're not my favourite band/artist of all time - that status in my tiny brain belongs to Bowie - but I listen to their music more now than I ever did when I was first playing bass in my teens and twenties. Their songwriting, musicianship, artistic curiosity and humour are just amazing - as could be seen in the recent Peter Jackson documentary.. None of this stuff is mutually exclusive IMO - whilst really endorsing everything that's been said about how great The Beatles were/are, it doesn't mean I don't appreciate just how game-changing and influential Kraftwerk were for example. Trans Europe Express and Man Machine of two of my favourite albums ever... And as for that Mozart bloke, he's way over-rated! My 19 year old son ( who plays classical piano) raves about Mozart to me all the time, but I much prefer Mendelssohn, Debussy, and Chopin. But what do I know? After all, I'm just a bass player in a couple of dodgy covers bands.. 😁
