1. Great photos - looks like a good day was had by all! Lots of nice basses to look at but I must say that the Tobias looks very nice, as does the fretless Wal of course.. So what's with all the South Wests Markbass lurve then - statistically, that's a very high percentage of MB gear in one room?
2. Looks like a fantastic event in a very nice venue.. And some lovely gear on show! Sorry to hear about the Mesa, WoT - hope that the amp man can work some 'low-cost' repair magic for you??
3.
That looks quite hard to do. Glad I don't have a metronome.
+1 It was great to watch though.. VW has fantastic feel and that comes through even when the only other thing accompanying him is a metronome.
4. Looks great! Good story too...
5.
I've had this set up since the release of the fusion and don't think i'll ever change, love it!
That looks amazing! Is it 550 watts then; 500 for the woofer and 50 for the treble?
6. Dennis Dunnway on almost all of the 'School's Out album by Alice Cooper..
7. Barry Adamson on Magazine's 'The Light Pours Out of Me' (from the Real Life album)
8.
Another plus one for Al. I messaged him out of the blue about a 2 year old for sale ad. He swiftly got back in touch, and very generously honoured the same price he'd advertised it for. Al got it to me quickly and for a great price (considering the item's weight!). Top bloke and would recommend dealings with him to anyone. Mark
+1
9. Good luck chaps! Hope you have a great day and that the weather is kind to you...
10. Great looking rig! Must be a PIA to move around though... Good to see another West Sussex Basschatter by the way!
11. Loads of records have been made that were sped up when mixed & cut.. Another old favourite trick in the 60's was to make the song slightly louder from the Middle 8 onwards when doing the Cut, just to keep people's ears interested..
12.
Hi have got myself a Tobias standard v and was wondering if anyone else plays one and what they think of it. Also what color is yours my one is a very cool metallic(ish) white cheers Vic
Had a 1990 Tobias Classic V a long time ago and that was lovely.. excellent construction, playability and sound.. Having said that, the Standard V models I've seen over the years have all looked pretty impressive as well, so I'm sure what you have just acquired is a pretty amazing bass!
13. Nice compact set-up.. That's a great looking Stingray! And the P/J configuration is always a winner IMO...
14.
I just wanted to give a big thank you to everyone who's helped me out by buying my stuff, and the guys I've bought and traded with/from. It's proved that Ebay Suck, Cash is King, and Paypal is useful at times (mebby) and Bassist are all top people who don't get the credit they're owed. None of this would be possible without all the members, Mods, and of couse our fearless leader, Ped. It's been a big help having a community like this when my lifes been turned upside down, and I know others feel the same. This wouldn't happen in many demographics, and it proves that there's still some decent people left in this world! Big up yo' selves, you deserve it!
Agree with this 100% - Basschat is is a great community!
15.
After owning Alice Coopers Killer and Billion Dollar Babies albums years ago, I've just bought them again on CD, I knew they were good albums but I'd forgot how good. Dennis is incredible, they are true workbooks on how to play rock bass. Spotify Under my Wheels and Halo of Flies to see what I mean.
+1
16.
for an idea of the sound, if you check Jonas Hellborg bass solo on youtube, there are plenty of things to be found with this type of bass.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh_Z1kt5iR4
17.
Very interesting; Looks like a cross between a Spector and a Wal.
+1 Hellborg used a Wal for many years IIRC so maybe that influenced his design ideas.. Must say I'm suprised to see this back up for sale; looks like a very interesting bass. Good luck with it!
18. Very nice Nick; especially the P-bass.. That is a stunner!
19. Cool! Can't hear the bass too well on my PC but I like the band and the song...
20. Great post - thanks! And a very fine collection of basses...
21.
Bought a bass since September 9th! Doing pretty well i think! Yeah i am having withdrawel symptoms and i bought a Amp and cab during that time. But its still not a bass! Maybe i should sell one of the Pedullas and by something with uphold my image! What was the longest time any of you lot went without buying a bass?
Well done Rob! Longest time I went without buying a bass was about twenty years.. from when I was 0 until I was 20! Soon as I had a job and some moneyI bought a Ric 4003! It's been downhill ever since...
22. There is always a danger of over-using e.q. IMO. If your amp has a good e.q. facility and so does your bass, then there's potential to overdo it.. From my experience of working in recording studios at various times over the years, the art of getting a good sound from any instrument is in capturing the real sound of the instrument and then enhancing it if you need to with e.q. and/or effects.. I think that is also true in a live situation, though there are more complex factors at work, such as the acoustics in a room etc, etc. There are exceptions of course; where you might be using e.q. to radically alter the sound you get from a bass for example.. But in most cases I can recall, too much e.q. actually makes things sound 'smaller' and 'thinner' in a mix (for want of any better adjectives), not bigger.
23. Many thanks Bryan!!
24.
Oh my. I've just been Alembic:ed. Thanks to Basschat and a very nice Belgian Gentleman, I have this wonderful Alembic MK5 to fool around with to my hearts content. I'm totally floored with its sound and how well it plays! Darn, I'm a lucky guy!
That's amazing!! You are indeed 'a lucky guy'.. which may qualify as the understatement of the year!!
25. Hi Folks, Just sold a GK700RB head to Bryan (BBass) who was a pleasure to deal with throughout and, though he's new to Basschat and this was his first transaction, I'm pretty sure it won't be his last!! So if you do have to deal with Bryan in the future, you can definitely do so in confidence! Thanks Bryan - hope to see you around on BC more often and enjoy the amp! Nik
