1. Hi Folks Bit of weekend fun.. I was listening to one of the football managers waffling on in a radio interview this morning about how he couldn't compete with the bigger football clubs when it comes to buying new players. So he had to look out for the bargain players, or bring young players through, develop a scouting network etc etc.. So it made me wonder about what kind of football manager I'm like when it comes to buying gear? Well.. I haven't got the spare cash to really throw around at gear unless I sell stuff first, so I'm definitley not a Mark Hughes at Man City buying everyone that Real Madrid hasn't bought.. or even a Sir Alex at Man U who can buy a Rooney or Berbatov..and I'm definitely not Perez at Real Madrid who can spend over £200 million in one summer!! So, after mulling it over for a bit, I decided I'm somewhere between David Moyes at Everton and (though it pains me to say it as a life-long Man U fan), Arsene Wenger at Arsenal! Every now and again I'll buy something of real quality, but more often than not, I'm trawling the For Sale threads looking for that increasingly had to find bargain.. So, if you're like me and you spend a bit too much time buying & selling gear, which foootball manager are you most like in the Basschat transfer market?? Nik

 3.
Here's the first part of my "Encyclopedia", covering A-G (That's AC Guitars to Gus). I've used parts of my ongoing project since 2006 of creating a worldwide list of bassmakers. Corrections and additions are welcome. If you find a picture in here that's copyrightfully yours let me know - I'll change things...
Superb! Thanks... Look forward to seeing the rest!
 4. A lot of common sense has already been mentioned above and hopefully that will help Josh get to where he wants to go! Regarding the discussion around 'boutique basses', I think that we have quite high levels of expectation around certain well-know brands, such as MTD, Ken Smith, Sadowsky etc, etc.. But the reality is they're all going to be different instruments and some will suit some of us more than others. Understanding that we need to be able to manage our own expectations when we buy/sell gear, especially basses which are so subjective in terms of the feel, playability, sound etc, would certainly help avoid feeling overly disappointed if a new bass doesn't do what we expected it to do. And I certainly agree with 4000 when he talks about how much OCD we can develop, especially when we have more time to tinker and worry.. Isn't there some old saying about how 'the devil makes work for idle hands...'
 5. Hi Folks There's been a few people mentioning bringing drummers & kits along which is great.. But although it's a big venue, we will need to make sure that any plans to have drums/drummers on the day are carefully worked out, otherwise, i think it could get a bit out of hand. So I'll draw up a list of people who've either offered to bring or have mentioned drummers so that we can work out how it could work beforehand.. And I'll PM everyone on the list directly - does that sound OK? Cheers Nik
 6. +1 And to Mr.T's comment about trying to seek perfection.. there's no such thing!
I like Claber, he's a straight talking Mother and I like his returns policy.
As others have said, Alex's atempts to assist Mr.T here are what 'customer support/relations' should be, but very rarely is!
I have to say this is one of my favourite threads
+1 Sorry that Mr.T is having such a difficult time of it with his gear, but this really has been one of the most interesting and useful threads on the Forum for ages...
 11.
Im a bit nervious at buying unseen. Normally i would do it from Thomanns knowing i can send it back but i dont have the option this time. I do feel safe in that i know the Gallery has good back up though.
When I was in The Gallery in May, they had a few Laklands in there and the DJ5 I tried out played like a dream.. Not sure if they set them up when they arrive or not, but if yours is going into the shop first (before coming onto you) it might be worth asking then to give it a quick check over?

 14. Good news Dave! Look forward to seeing the pics soon...
 15. That's fabulous! I would be happy to just have that lying around to look at, let alone use it...

 17.
I used to run through a pair of D210XLT's - awesome cabs. If it wasn't for the fact that they weigh 69lbs each, I still would!
I know what you mean; this Eden stuff is heavy! But sound wise, I'm loving it...
 18. Quick update of what the gig rig now looks like.. It's not yet been tested at a gig but early home trials (when everyone's out of course..), have been impressive!
 19.
Sold? If not...
Almost...Should be done & dusted by tomorrow or Friday - sorry!!
 20.
I use both passive and active basses for gigs so I have an Aphex exciter in line and just switch it on when I use the passive bass.
I have this problem .. albeit more with volume issues than eq issues .. between my Roscoe Beck V and my Fender Jazz Deluxe V at gigs. And I also use a 4 string Wal bass on a couple of down-tuned numbers and that is as loud as the Deluxe V, if not louder, so it can be and has been a real problem trying to keep levels consistent.. In a nutshell, the Deluxe V has an EBS pre-amp in it and is so much louder than the RBV that it causes me monitoring problems when I switch basses during a gig and the levels into the band's PA are affected too.. I've tried a number of different approaches to getting around it .. I've got a Zoom B2 Pedal and that works well for controlling the volume difference .. but it does add some noise to the signal chain which isn't ideal really. I also have an Aphex exciter and that does help to provide an eq boost, but that on it's own doesn't solve the problem because the volume differential is so great. The Boss LS-2 line selector I had worked pretty well though because it provides a 2 channel facilty with the ability to boost and/or cut the volume on each channel quite drastically! Now though, I can use the 2 channels on the Eden Metro to get around the problem without having to many problems..
 21.
Lovely bloke, top BCer, and highly recommended as someone to deal with Chris
+1 to that! Just sold a mixer to John who's brilliant to deal with, always keeps in touch and is extremely knowledgable on all things bass!! Glad you noticed the packaging btw, which tells it's own story of too many mis-spent years buying & selling bass gear! ;-) Thanks John!
 22.
Bought a mini-mixer off Nik (with a free 4 track thrown in) and a stress free transaction with 'superb' packaging... even Parcelpap couldn't have damaged anything with Nik's packing. Cheers mate.
Thanks John.. T'was a pleasure!
 23.
Crikey - that brings back some memories - I definitely used to have one of these... Bought it new some time in the 1980's. Ahhhh.... Golden days! Have a bump on me!
Thanks! Glad to be of service...
 24.
Just wondering... How do you rate the Metro against the Nemesis?
Very highly! The Metro is like having 2 amps for a start, as it has 2 very good but distinct channels. The sound of Channel 1 is closer to the Nemesis, but Channel 2 with the valve pre, the 5 band e.q. and the semi-parametric e.q is on a different planet! Plus, each channel has (defeatable) compression, an enhance control..there's 2 seperate fx send/returns.. ..so, feature wise it's excellent.. Overall, it's a more versatile, warmer and also more transparent sounding amp but then it should be because it's a much more expensive piece of kit! And the fact that it comes as part of a combo with a very, very good 210 is even better IMO..
