1.
Hi I'm selling this B2.1u as it's no longer getting any use. £65 posted. Great little unit - can be used as a PC interface for recording or a practise unit. Nice effects and models AND it has an XLR socket so that it can be used as a DI box. It's very versatile indeed Thanks Sean
Yup - great unit which I use for rehearsals, and as a volume boost and for a few effects at gigs.. And it's really fun to practice along with the drum machine on there.. Brilliant value for money. Mind you; I didn't know you could use it as a PC interface..must look into that! IS it easy to do? Good luck with the sale..
 2.
A little off topic but this idea of "It's ok to not be able to hear yourself" is somewhat outdated these days. If you learn to play with decent monitoring and audibility and that goes away at a specific gig it is a serious handicap. Sure the Beatles could do it without monitors because they had to. The concept didn't exist until Watkins WEM invented it in about 1968 but we all expect to be able to hear the vocal, drums and our own instrument these days. If you can't hear things then the audio cues that many tunes depend upon dissapear and chaos ensues. So I have a lot of sympathy for your estwhile band
I know what you mean and it is a different world now so consequently, we have different expectations. But I also think there's a real tendency to get too hooked into the idea of everything having to be 'perfect' before we can make music and in my experience (both as a musician and a manager) it was far too easy to blame the gear rather than look at whether the attitude and performance is right...

 4.
Ive been there Josh, i didnt get quite as high up the scale as you (Bongo, Bacchus and Lakland where my "high enders") And all i can say is dont fear! Whenever i got a new bass i'd sit down and fettle and toy with pre-amps and new strings and all sorts. however, I got into a band i simply enjoy playing music with. This changed everything! I bought a mexican 75RI Jazz because it felt lovely. I had a grand to play with but this 450 quid beauty was it for me. The big deal for me now is that i can turn up to a gig and plug into any old piece of crap and i'll enjoy playing. Cos it feels nice and because i enjoy the music! For recording I knock the action a bit higher to round off my tone and thats about that. So i suppose what im asking is what are you doing playing bass? I dont even nearly want to put you off, but are you just sitting at home playing runs and getting frustrated that you "dont have that sizzle at 1.3k" or something? If you couldnt hear yourself on stage or couldnt get your bass to sit in a mix i'd understand, but it seems your getting frustrated over what is essentially tiny things, maybe its time for a break? I couldnt ever imagine having a bass to play to myself all the time, let alone a 3 grand one! If your happy doing this then fair play to you, but more food for thought i guess!
+1 Lot of good questions asked & points raised in there! Doesn't matter how long you've been playing, what kind of music you play, what gear you have, how it's set up etc .. the whole process starts in your head. It's all about getting our thinking right when it comes to making music I suppose.. More often than not, the gear gets in the way! I used to see that situation a lot when I managed bands for a living.. The amount of times they'd complain because they couldn't hear themselves properly during a gig was untrue.. "The gig was crap because i couldn't hear my self in the monitors" was the usual refrain.. And that despite the fact that the PA was usually quite decent and had a seperate mixer for the monitors.. So I always used to say to the bands that if The Beatles could play to 50,000 people at Shea Stadium in 1965 without any monitors, then they should be able to play brilliantly to 50 people at The Barfly (or wherever) with or without being able to hear themselves on stage and without complaining!
 5.
A bit quiet (low output), but a bright, snappy tone with quite a wide variety on the tone knob - the pickup is actually a guitar one. Good slap tone. Unfortunately the through body stringing modification didn't make the strings much tighter - was hoping for a better improvement in that respect. I ended up selling it - too many basses, not enough time. I have no sentimentality when it comes to this business - I've sold my first bass, and this was the bass I used in my first ever gig. Photos is enough - cash is king, particularly with the house sized GAS the wife and I have got at the moment EDIT: I just remembered, there's some sound clips here from when I sold it: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...st&p=476545
Cheers!
 6. Lovely basses BB! The old Wal Pro I models make a very nice sound indeed!! That looks like the passive model if I'm not mistaken..very warm old-skool sound. The Goodfellow is pretty impressive too.. Good luck with the sales btw!
 7.
Ive had mainly stuff peavey for the last 18 years other than a brief spell with a 135 fender bassman (great tone, but didnt like the distortion at volumes past 6) svt pro 3 (sold to finance other things) always rock solid re pairable and cheap on ebay, the last 2 ive had a late 70's mark 3 and late 70's musician guitar head both got for less than 80 quid. And because of that not trendy !!!!!!
Never seen one like that before, i.e. with 'Musician' written on the front of it...normally it says 'Bass' there instead. Is it quite a rare model?
 8. Good idea for a thread.. Neepheid; those changes are fantastic! What does the Bronco sound like after all that work?
 9. Hi Folks Bit of weekend fun.. I was listening to one of the football managers waffling on in a radio interview this morning about how he couldn't compete with the bigger football clubs when it comes to buying new players. So he had to look out for the bargain players, or bring young players through, develop a scouting network etc etc.. So it made me wonder about what kind of football manager I'm like when it comes to buying gear? Well.. I haven't got the spare cash to really throw around at gear unless I sell stuff first, so I'm definitley not a Mark Hughes at Man City buying everyone that Real Madrid hasn't bought.. or even a Sir Alex at Man U who can buy a Rooney or Berbatov..and I'm definitely not Perez at Real Madrid who can spend over £200 million in one summer!! So, after mulling it over for a bit, I decided I'm somewhere between David Moyes at Everton and (though it pains me to say it as a life-long Man U fan), Arsene Wenger at Arsenal! Every now and again I'll buy something of real quality, but more often than not, I'm trawling the For Sale threads looking for that increasingly had to find bargain.. So, if you're like me and you spend a bit too much time buying & selling gear, which foootball manager are you most like in the Basschat transfer market?? Nik
 10.
Good post redstriper! EDIT: Schwartz a bit idealistic though. It needs interpreting in context.
+1 Schwartz is talking about what Buddhism calls 'The Mire of Options'... i.e. too many choices is sometimes a bad thing!
 11.
Here's the first part of my "Encyclopedia", covering A-G (That's AC Guitars to Gus). I've used parts of my ongoing project since 2006 of creating a worldwide list of bassmakers. Corrections and additions are welcome. If you find a picture in here that's copyrightfully yours let me know - I'll change things...
Superb! Thanks... Look forward to seeing the rest!
 12. A lot of common sense has already been mentioned above and hopefully that will help Josh get to where he wants to go! Regarding the discussion around 'boutique basses', I think that we have quite high levels of expectation around certain well-know brands, such as MTD, Ken Smith, Sadowsky etc, etc.. But the reality is they're all going to be different instruments and some will suit some of us more than others. Understanding that we need to be able to manage our own expectations when we buy/sell gear, especially basses which are so subjective in terms of the feel, playability, sound etc, would certainly help avoid feeling overly disappointed if a new bass doesn't do what we expected it to do. And I certainly agree with 4000 when he talks about how much OCD we can develop, especially when we have more time to tinker and worry.. Isn't there some old saying about how 'the devil makes work for idle hands...'
 13. Hi Folks There's been a few people mentioning bringing drummers & kits along which is great.. But although it's a big venue, we will need to make sure that any plans to have drums/drummers on the day are carefully worked out, otherwise, i think it could get a bit out of hand. So I'll draw up a list of people who've either offered to bring or have mentioned drummers so that we can work out how it could work beforehand.. And I'll PM everyone on the list directly - does that sound OK? Cheers Nik
 14. +1 And to Mr.T's comment about trying to seek perfection.. there's no such thing!
I like Claber, he's a straight talking Mother and I like his returns policy.
As others have said, Alex's atempts to assist Mr.T here are what 'customer support/relations' should be, but very rarely is!
I have to say this is one of my favourite threads
+1 Sorry that Mr.T is having such a difficult time of it with his gear, but this really has been one of the most interesting and useful threads on the Forum for ages...
 19.
Im a bit nervious at buying unseen. Normally i would do it from Thomanns knowing i can send it back but i dont have the option this time. I do feel safe in that i know the Gallery has good back up though.
When I was in The Gallery in May, they had a few Laklands in there and the DJ5 I tried out played like a dream.. Not sure if they set them up when they arrive or not, but if yours is going into the shop first (before coming onto you) it might be worth asking then to give it a quick check over?
 20.
To be honest I'm pretty disappointed about this....
25.
I used to run through a pair of D210XLT's - awesome cabs. If it wasn't for the fact that they weigh 69lbs each, I still would!
I know what you mean; this Eden stuff is heavy! But sound wise, I'm loving it...
