  1. Hi John I'm good thanks - how about you? The electrics are a bit worse for wear tbh; could do with a new pot or two, and it's quite buzzy, so I suspect the earth wire needs to be resited.. But if that all gets sorted, those pick ups are really good! I've had a couple of PMs on this and it looks like it might be gone soon.. 🀞😁
  2. *** Item now SOLD - thanks for the interest! *** Hi Folks Here for sale is a retro looking, late 70s or early 80s fretless Gherson Jazz Bass that I've had for a year or so. Price is £SOLD or near offer, and I'm not looking for any trades at this time. So... It's the 3rd fretless bass I've had over the last 15 years and, just as the previous 2, it was acquired so that I could give "...playing fretless a go". Well, now I've done that, I think ive finally proved to myself that I just dont have the fretless gene in my DNA.. I think I'm 'Jaco-impaired' for want of a better phrase.. Anyway, when I got it, it was completely unplayable but my local luthier at the time (Graham Wheeler) did a good job of sorting it out a twist in the neck so that it's quite playable now. And with the two powerful Di Marzio pick ups and a set of Bass Centte Elite Detroit flats on it , it has the potential to make quite a nice sound in the right hands. The tuners are good too, and the bridge/truss are all working fine.. Having said all of that, it would definitely benefit from further work - hence why I've described it as a 'project'... Firstly, the electrics need a bit of TLC and also, the neck could probably do with a bit more work up the dusty end to make it easier to play those higher notes.. As you can see in the attached photos, it's got its fair share of battle scars, notably at the top end of the neck! If I thought I would do more fretless playing and be better at it, then I'd do those things mentioned above to make it a better playing instrument, but the reality is that I won't, hence why it's up here for sale. One last thing to mention - it's a heavy bass and not for anyone with any lingering back/neck/shoulder health issues. In terms of logistics, collection preferred from Potton, Central Bedfordshire, but I could drive to do a meet up if needed.. And yes, postage is possible if absolutely necessary. It doesn't come with a case but I'm pretty sure I can provide a gig bag with it for shipping. Any questions, please ask away here or send me a PM. Thanks for looking! 😊 Nik
  3. After years of living in West Sussex, I moved to Central Bedfordshire last year and one of my worries at the time was about finding someone locally that I could trust to work on my basses.. It turns out I needn't have worried at all, as one of Basschat's finest, Gary aka@gary mac, lives not too far away from me in Hertfordshire. Spin forward 9 months or so and in recent weeks, Gary has done some fantastic work on 3 of my basses including basic set-ups, fretboard work, solving earthing problems and copper screening control cavities, as well as realigning a bridge by 2 mms on a bass I bought recently. All basses now play beautifully and sound great, with not a whisper of earthing hum or buzzing to be found... 😎 To say I'm pleased would be a massive understatement - I'm absolutely delighted and will be taking some of my other instruments to Gary for the same treatment. As if all that weren't enough, it turns out Gary's mum lives over the road from my lovely aunt in Cheshunt and that Gary has known very close cousins of mine for years - what a small world!! 😁 Anyway back on topic, Gary's work is excellent, his turnaround times are good and he charges a very fair price indeed for the quality of service he provides, so if you're local enough to him, then I can't recommend him highly enough! Thanks Gary and see you again soon no doubt.. πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž Nik
  4. Just echoing all the positive comments above about about this amp; I have one that I've been using on a recording project, and it's been absolutely brilliant! Done a few gigs with it too, and it's been great in that setting too.. GLWTS
  5. Well, I didnt think it was my place to mention them.. 😁
  6. Just bought a great 3u rack bag from Andy which is in great condition and is perfect for the job! Speaking of perfect, the whole transaction with Andy went perfectly from start to finish, as would be expected from the brilliant feedback here.. Thanks Andy - really appreciate it! πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
  7. Just had the pleasure of meeting James to do a trade - my Vanderkley/Markbass rig for his Walkabout Scout combo. As has already been said here, James is a great person to deal with and I'm very happy to recommend him to one and all on Basschat! 😊 Thanks for sorting out the obligatory motorway services venue to meet at today James, and more importantly, thanks for the trade! πŸ‘
  8. Very cool looking bass! πŸ‘ And a cool looking Michael Caine picture too. GLWTS
  9. I had one of these some years ago and it was really good.. The option to blend the valve and the solid state channels, worked really well, and getting a very useable tone out of it quickly in a gig situation was dead easy with the on board eq. It sounded good with both 4 and 5 string basses and was pretty loud IIRC.. GLWTS
  10. You're welcome.. It's a really lovely song btw, with some very fine bass playing too...
  11. +1 I keep looking at this, but like you @stewblack, I already have too many amps... It does like like an absolute beast though - albeit a very versatile one, judging from the online sound clips out there. Anyway, GLWTS 😊
  12. Beautiful looking bass @Pow_22! Can't really hear it too clearly in the YouTube clips you mention, but I like the sound of your band.. πŸ‘ GLWTS
  13. Just received a Mono strap from @Owenwhich arrived in record time and is exactly as described. Thanks Owen - it's absolutely perfect for this small humanoid! 😁 And just to say (as this is your Feedback thread after all) I can't recommend Owen to the Basschat community highly enough, so deal with him in absolute confidence... πŸ‘ All the best, Nik
  14. +1 This has been my experience too.. Its so easy to accidentally put a twist into a string when you're putting it on for the first time and, as well as contributing to overtones eyc, if there's a twist, then it makes it almost impossible to intonate the string accurately. I currently have an Xotic XJ1T 5 string bass that's a 34" scale neck and the B string on it is really well defined and is balanced with the other 4 strings in terms of volume and tone. There are no horrible overtones either.
  15. I've had the pleasure of hearing this cab in action, and it sounded great paired with a Mesa Big Block 750 and a passive Yamaha BB bass! For Β£50, it's an absolute bargain IMHO.. GLWTS
  16. Good evening @owen and Happy New Year! Is the Mono strap still available? If so, I'm interested.. Would it be too long for a shorter humanoid like me do you think ? I am 5 ft 6" (on a good day ).. Nik
  17. It's definitely a pre-Lowden model. Fabulous basses btw; I had one briefly in the 90s but i wasn't goid enough to play it!! πŸ˜‚ GLWTS
  18. πŸ‘πŸ˜Š Used to be mine before @PatrickJtook it off my hands. It's a great cab for sure!

  20. Not normally a Staus fan @andyonbass, but both of your Status basses look fantastic, and this one in particular, must be the Basschat bargain of the Xmas season!! GLWTS πŸŽ„πŸ˜Š
